Brief Description: Oreki Houtarou is a minimalistic high school boy. One day, he joins the Classic Literature Club at his elder sister's request. There he meets Chitanda Eru, Fukube Satoshi, and Ibara Mayaka. Chitanda is a calm beautiful girl but she turns into an embodiment of curiosity once she says, "I'm interested in it (Watashi, Kininarimasu)". Fukube is a smiling boy with a fantastic memory who calls himself a database. Ibara is a short girl and is strict with others and herself. She loves Fukube, but he always dodges her approaches. They begin to investigate a case that occurred 45 years ago. Hints of the mystery are buried in an old collection of works of the former members of Classics Club. The collection is titled "Hyouka." Hyouka is one of the most touching, and well written anime I have ever seen. The characters are well-developed, very well rounded, and interact with each other in a realistic, and believiable well. The growth of character that occurs for the four members of the Classics Club (especially Oreki Hotaru) is also done realisticially. The mystieries are interesting, and will definitley keep any mystery fan interested (even if the first one is incredibly simple). The plot, while very slow moving at first especially, is interesting, and brings the most interesting aspects of the characters out into the open. Combine that with some of the most beautiful animation done by studio Kyoani, and a very well done romance done without copying every single trope in the book. And, the fact that the show for the most part is very clean, its definitley an excellent choice for fans of romance, and mystery alike. |

If you like light but intruging mysteries, then this is the title for you! You have a varity of characters and arcs to work with, and a detective who can do them while trying "to do nothing". There is a hot spring episode, but it's not detailed. Also, one of the mysteries has to do with a "murder mystery" movie. Granted, this means that it is all acting - so it shouldn't be a problem except for those who can't deal with any violence. |
