It's the final year of high school for Yui Hirasawa (guitar), Ritsu Tainaka (drums), Mio Akiyama (bass), and Tsumugi Kotobuki (keyboard); the founding members of the Light Music Club. Together with their junior member Azusa Nakano (guitar), they spend their days after school in the music room enjoying tea and sweets, and practicing music. Amidst band practice, preparations for the new student orientation performance, scouting for new members, and student responsibilities they still have time for "After School Tea Time".

July, 2011: Mithrandir [ Already Rated ]

K-On!! picks up right where K-On! leaves off. Thankfully, the series continues in the same idiom - it's more of the same wonderful fun.

As with K-On!, the music is spectacular (Check out the Wikipedia entry - some of the music from this series topped the charts in Japan despite being "studio band" music), the dialogue is great, the characters are believable, and the plot is outstanding.

If you enjoy "slice of life" series of if you've ever played in a band, then there's no avoiding it; this is a MUST SEE series.

Ratings Details:

Violence:
I gave this series a "1" in violence only because one of the characters bops the others from time to time for being stupid. It's not actually violent, but some parents may want to be aware, if their kids imitate that kind of thing.

Nudity:
I gave this series a "1" only because one of the characters sometimes gets starry-eyed whenever she sees two girls in close proximity - however...

spoilerIt's pretty clear from the series that this character is reacting this way because she's led an extremely sheltered life. For example, she also reacts similarly when asked "would you like fries with that."

July, 2011: Rose Faerie [ Already Rated ]

Violence: It's the same as season one. It's just the slapstick head bopping, though there is an episode devoted to the gag.

Sex and Nudity: It's similar to season one, as there is an outdoor bath scene, though everything is thoroughly censored with steam and water. There are a few jokes that might raise some eyebrows, though they would likely go over younger viewers heads. You can count these instances on one hand.

Theological Themes: I know they pray at a shrine at least once. Their school has an occult club, though the girls in the occult club are never shown to do anything involving the occult. All you hear about them is that they believe in aliens.

Problematic Themes: The same as the first season: light, mild swearing. Again, I can count these instances on one hand.

Overall: This season is a bit more developed than the first, so I gave it a higher score. Azusa's character definitely got a lot more screen time, which is a bonus if are a fan of her (or a drawback, if, like me, you didn't like her). Towards the end, the crew does focus on more serious issues, such as the impending end of the light music club. However, it doesn't take away from the silliness and lightheartedness of the show, which remains ever present. I recommend this to preteens and up; the same as the first season.
