Ok, I have a fair understanding of this myself, however, I thought I would see how others would respond or answer this question.

So guys, Why do we need a Savior?

So we feel secure about dying.

Because human beings are sinful.

Now to sit back and wait for the inevitable sermon that will follow from this answer.

Because mankind has sinned, and fallen very short of the glory of God. Jesus died for our sins so that we could live an eternity in Heaven just by asking for him to save us from sin, and to believe in him. Its in Him that I put my faith and trust in.

Because our world is fundamentally flawed at its very core. It is something we can not dig ourselves out of. The cycle of death and sin and destruction goes on and on. There is nothing new under the sun. Someone had to break the barrier between earth and heaven. Someone had to show us a new way to live and bring the Kingdom of God here(it's not just heaven, the Kingdom of God is now as well). That person is Jesus.

That's not the best way I can describe it, but alas it is 2 AM and I am tired.

Everyone who has posted already has covered the general response (see Romans 6:23 for one reference). Basically it's the difference between eternal life and death. We can't save ourselves. Or rather, speaking on a more personal level, I know I can't save myself from what end awaits me. That's why I need a Savior.

Thus, I think it's a question to ask yourself personally. Do you need a savior? Why or why not? Can you save yourself? Is it better to accept a savior's help or to try to do things on your own?

Well said, and Nate, Jesus is not amused. And neither am I.

Good thing my answer wasn't meant to be amusing then.

[insert typical atheist viewpoint]

Looks like you're doing some judging there Rock. Pretty sure you're not supposed to do that. If Jesus isn't amused with what is going on, he'll let us all know one day. But for a human to be upset about human nature, especially when ones own church came up with the concept of original sin, that just seems backwards that you're "not amused" everyone has sin on them. Unless of course you're just expecting everyone to become a catholic.
