Batman: Arkham Asylum

Postby Tarnish » Sun Aug 30, 2009 1:28 am

I'm seriously shocked and disappointed to find that there's no thread on this game, yet. Anyone played it yet? I just finished the demo, and other than one or two minor complaints (Does Batman's cape really need to fill 3/4 of the screen?), I can safely say that it was freaking awesome. In fact, I'm willing to bet that the full version is better than any of the Batman movies.

Plus, the new Harley Quinn is hot.

We discussed it briefly on the gamecast, and when I say briefly I mean we didn't take up the entire episode. Consensus seems to be if you like Batman in any respect, comics, movies, television, the animated series, are even remotely familiar with the character, anything, buy this game.

Unless you're me and can't because your computer sucks.

Kinda off topic but I feel your pain F&C. I'd like to get me Street Fighter 4 for the PC but my system's NOWHERE near strong enough to handle it :-(

That being said is this game multi format? Is it available on the PS2?

Nope. Just PS3, PC, and 360.

The demo was playable on my PC, but I'll definitely go for the Xbox version instead.

The bad part is you can only play as the JOker if you have the PS3 version.
Anyway, I normally don't buy M-rated games, but I might make an exception for this one.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is rated T.

I have the same problem as Fish basically. It looks awesome, but I need a new graphics card.

I just started playing this the other day. And yes, I think it's better than any of the movies. I was wishing the movies had this whole horror/creepy atmosphere that this pretty much has. The Scarecrow in this I think is awesome. I've only done two of his "arena" things or whatever but so far those have been my favorite parts.

I like trying to solve all the riddlers puzzles too. The riddles and the hidden painted "?" that are only seen in detective mode where you have to stand in the right spot and align the little dot with the rest of the question mark or whatever. I was kind of hoping for tougher challenges though, puzzle wise, but oh well... still fun.

I'm a little surprised a brawler with no co-op is getting so much love.

I'm not all that fond of going through room after room beating people up unless I have a friend to do it with. I mean, that's what MADE games like Double Dragon (2, I think... I don't think the first one had coop actually) and Ninja Turtles Arcade and Turtles in Time...

I would hesitate to classify Batman Arkham Asylum as a simple brawler. Honestly, that's all I thought it would be before I played the demo, but now (especially since I got the game) I was pleasantly surprised to see that there's considerably more to it than just being a simple beat 'em up. I mean, there are occasional straightforward fight parts, but there's also quite a bit of Sam Fisher-style stealth action as well as some "detective work" parts, plus the Riddler challenges just to mix it up a little more.
I highly recommend giving it a rental at least so you can see what all the hubbub is about.

Easily one of the best games to come out this year. Calling it a brawler is not a good call. Its a brawler/Stealth/horror/puzzle game its almost perfect to me. But no twoface >_<

Got it for my wife for her birthday. She's Batman obsessed, but not a very good gamer. Luckily the game is extremely forgiving. She's loving it. I watched a couple parts over her shoulder, but I haven't been paying too close attention simply because I want to experience the game fresh when I play it myeslf. Lots of Metal Bat Solid action going on in this game. It looks fun.

I recently bought the game (can't run it on high settings thoguh) and haven't got very far at all yet. I'm trying to open a vent grate to get inside but I can't seem to pry it off. Walkthroughs just say to "remove" the grate or to "pry" it off but they don't mention how to do so. Any help? Thanks

Bought it when it was released as a PC classic (saved myself a lot of $ in the process), haven't installed or played it yet.

Currently a little busy with work and other commitments, and game time is usually spent on Champions Online.

From what I heard and read though, this Batman game is perhaps one of the best. :)

@W4J: You repeatedly tap one of the face buttons. On the PS3 version I think it's X.
@Sammy: No, it's the best. Until Arkham City comes out, anyway.

Gosh, actually this is a fairly old-ish thread.

I LOVE Arkham Asylum. Because of the resurrection of this thread, I just may play through it again. XD

However, I can't wait for Arkham City though!

The name "Arkham City" doesn't even make any sense.

Well, the concept is, the mayor of Gotham is expanding the Arkham Asylum grounds to include the slums of Gotham City (fenced in and heavily guarded, of course). Hence, "Arkham City."

The only thing I don't like is the idea of making it an open world game. I usually hate those. Then again, I made an exception for Red Dead Redemption, so maybe I'll be making another for this one.

Is anyone not bothered by the fact that it is gonna be a "single player only" experience? I can honestly say i am not at all.

Batman works better alone, everybody knows that. Frankly, I would have been surprised and maybe a little annoyed to see a multiplayer mode.
