Digimon or pokemon?

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

Interesting. Although one could start one heckuva debate on "what is beauty?" pondering this. My dad paints abtract paintings, and I used to sit and watch him for hours as he worked on his weirdscapes. I remember one I watched him do, with a honeycomb structure that breaks off into cubes that fall into a thunder-filled abyss, saturated with reds and yellows and dark blues and a huge dome thing and... Well, it's awfully hard to describe, but it looks mighty cool. Perhaps because of my dad, my sense of the beautiful has always been for the weird. I've always found fungi gorgeous.

I've always liked the detail in Digimon's art, but I've always felt like the Digis have a tendency to be over-designed way more than Pokemon do. Pokemon are sometimes guilty of being too simple, but way too many Digimon are a visual overload.

I loved Pokemon as a kid(to the point where my parents were worried because I was getting overly obsessed) so the first time I saw Digimon I was like "oh em gee, you copied!" but then I watched it more and I liked it. Then the original set of characters went away and I stopped watching it.

Actually, from what I understand Digimon came out in Japan before Pokemon.

I guess my vote goes for Pokemon, but the anime seriously needs to end.

The Pokemon games are definitely far better than what the Digimon games have to offer.

However, the Digimon anime had a much stronger plot and characters than the Pokemon anime.

Pokemon (anime) is like the Simpsons nowadays.

It stopped being interesting eight years ago.

Simpsons still has it's quirks every episode now and then I come across^^ But no you're right in the general sense. I stopped watching Pokemon where between Johto League and Master Quest. Much too repetition^^ The movies however, are rather entertaining I find, and I still watch them all (luckily I'm able to find them in Japanese... I was actually surprised in the first movie how they slightly changed the dialogue/story for it. Made it somewhat different^^)

After the third movie, they started putting them straight onto videos and dvds. So they bypassed the theatres for movies 4-9or10(?). Im sorry I loss track of how many movies they have made.

They are now on their 10th movie in Japan, and it's still at #5 in the box office... They just can't get enough of Pokemon over there!^^ And that, is why the anime persists...

Are we in the last season of pokemon yet? (I think its season 10) Because pokemon sorta lost its lore after season 5 or maybe even earlier.

Not to mention they really ruined it when they fired the original voice cast.

i found digimon's plot to be much better than pokemon. the characters were much more fleshed out, and the episodes weren't incredibly repetitive. however, pokemon will always be a classic. there are things that just don't die, and pokemon is one of those things. no matter how repetitive or boring it can get, it will never die.

They probably asked for more money than the creators were willing to pay out. Of course, they deserved every penny! To play a character for ten-plus years is desreving of more compensation--ESPECIALLY Veronica Taylor!

Once again, with the 10th movie topping the Japanese box office, it WILL continue due to popularity. Heck, games over here are still doing great so they'll continue to promote with the anime and all. Unless the franchise itself started to die down, it won't lie low neither there, nor here. Although since it's not as revered as a classic here, most likely will possibly be canceled on these shores yet continue over there. Just like they love their One Piece, they love their Pokemon^^

I admit Pokemon was severely repetetive, but to me it will remain as a classic. (Well at least the first five seasons.) Because I watched it a whole lot as a kid every saturday morning on the WB and I remember their great voices. It seemed they changed the voices, but at the time I couldn't really tell much of the difference. So later when I watched some of the old episodes there was a difference and I was wondering why the voices sounded differently from the old ones untill you guys straightened me out. And then Misty left from the scene. (Which really made me sad, cause I liked her alot.) And then they think they can compensate for the lack of old characters by providing Pokemon Chronicles. So I miss the good old days of pokemon while it was repetetive it seemed like home. And then season six comes along and changes that, oh well.

Oh, no kidding! James sounds terrible now. James' voice has always been, and will always be, my favorite dub voice. He sounded so slick and smooth, like a real ladies' man... and yet he was a total dork. If they ever make a movie out of anything I write, I'll try to find that guy and make sure he voices at least one character. It's such a great voice!

Oh my, hard choice. I hate the Pokemon episodes that are on the air now but the old ones are amazing. Also the Pokemon video games are awesome too.

I like Digimon more 'cause the animation is better and so is the plot. The game is okay but not nearly as good as Pokemon. It's such a hard choice.

Since this is the GAME section and not the ANIME section, I'm going to comment on the GAME itself

Pokemon games >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Digimon digi-eggs... Digimon was just a virtual pet that could fight. Pokemon was a full fledged game with a (simple, but existent) plot. You can't even compare them...

I agree with Digimon. It had better animation, better story plot and character concepts, and the creators knew how to reinvent it with every season. But that's just my opinion. The only thing about Pokemon I like is the first Mewtwo movie, but that's about it.

I just noticed...

Not only is everyone discussing anime when this is the Game board, and therefore we should be discussing the games involved (in which case, as I said, Pokemon was worlds better) but this was a gravedig...

Never played any of the games of either series, so I can't comment on those. When it comes to the tv series and movies however Digimon wins, HANDS DOWN, for me. In fact Digimon was the first Anime movie I saw in the theatres. Will always hold a special place in my heart...

I liked the Pokemon episodes from before the first movie (and a couple movies after that), but haven't watched it since. I also liked the first four seasons of Digimon, despite 3 and 4 being very different from the first two (and the fact that I haven't watched 4 that much). I personally like the Digimon anime better than the Pokemon one, but I'll admit that's probably just due to personal preference.

Puguni (post: 1152409) wrote:I've never played the Digimon games where you raise one, but I have fighting game, and it's not that great?

The raising games weren't any better. In fact, the first one is much worse than the fighting games. The second is alright (but not great), and I haven't played any past that.

Just so you know, I'm talking about the Playstation games. I haven't played the little egg-things, either.

Renamon's apparently male in the German version. I wonder what the people who make Renamon porn would think of this.
