The fate of my Nintendo DS

Postby Sammy Boy » Sat Feb 28, 2009 11:17 pm

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and if so, whether they were able to resolve it?

I bought the Nintendo DS some years ago (i.e. the original, chunkier looking one). The other day, I bought Chrono Trigger and was playing the game on it when the battery went flat.

So I got the charger out and plugged it in, only to find that the battery did not charge (there was no charging light, and when I switched the DS on after a few hours, the battery light was still red). I confirmed that the plug was in the socket securely, and the wall socket works (I have used other appliances on it). Thinking that the charger was broken, I went and bought another charger. Still no good. Now I was thinking perhaps my battery could not be charged anymore, as I have had it for a few years (though I believe I only charged it a few hundred times at most). So I bought a rechargeable battery for the NDS from eBay.

The battery I bought worked well for an hour or so and then went flat. I tried to charge it but it did not charge. By this time, I was wondering if something was wrong with the charging component of my NDS. The reason is the eBay seller I bought the battery from had sold many items and has had 100% positive feedback, so it was unlikely that he sold me a broken battery. The fact that it needed charging after an hour of playing could simply mean that the battery was charged a while back, and by the time it shipped to me it was almost flat.

I also think it unlikely that both of my NDS chargers would be broken. I suppose the only solution is to get the DS-i when it comes out later in the year, but I don't want to spend so much money...

It could be the chargers. Both of my GBA chargers went out within a month or so of each other.

Quickly get a DS-Lite before the DSI comes out, unless you don't have any GBA games to play.

I agree with Ryan-- buy a used DS Lite, to maybe save a little money.

But the second charger did not charge the batteries (both the old and new) even right after I bought it, which leads me to think that the charging component inside the NDS is busted...

I may do just that. I think my wife wants a DS-i though. Let me try to talk her out of it. :D
