Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

It took them long enough! XD JK
Ok, so I just got it the other day and I do like it! I find the more traditional style of fighting to be better than that card-style that was in Chain of Memories.

So who else is/has playing/played it?

I do like the backstory of the organization and Roxas to be interesting. It seems that the time of the game in the KH saga is while Sora is off at Castle Oblivion in the Chain of Memories game. You control Roxas for this game. I haven't got to far into the game so I can't say that you won't control anyone else.

Man I loved the Kingdom Hearts series. Somewhat inexplicably so actually. Bought my PS2 back in the day because of the first game, and loved every minute of it, even though I would'nt have told my friends so . "An rpg... about... Disney? :eh:"

Alas, I can't play this particular installment. No DS :(. Pretty much just hanging out for Birth by Sleep now, whatever year that decides to come out. Hope you enjoy playing it though, it sure looks decent.

Thanks I will!

Don't feel left out because I don't have a PSP so I can't play Birth by Sleep.

But yeah, I know what you mean about the original KH. Wow, that was the reason I got a PS2 as well and it was my first PS2 game.

Don't go saying "Back in the day"! It makes me feel old!

I've only played Chain of Memories, but this looks really cool, it's the first game in a while that I've wanted to get. I loved Chain of Memories though.

I kind of want this game, but I've heard two major complaints:

1. It doesn't advance the story in any way. It gives background information on characters, but in no other way adds anything to the existing storyline.

2. Another three-hour tutorial level? I'd link the Penny Arcade comic about it if not for the language, but seriously, I know how to jump, Kingdom Hearts! I don't see the point in having a three-hour tutorial for this game. The main audience is going to be people who have played at LEAST one of the other games, so they know most of the controls. Have tutorials for the new and unique stuff (like that Gear thing), but don't drag us through the process of jumping and attacking. Geez. :\

I tried to play this game, but returned it after about an hour and a half of "play" because I could not bring myself to spend so much time on a tutorial.

I got it on launch day and really liked it. It does start pick up after the tutorial levels. The mission set-up is kind of repetitive, but still fun. The graphics are terrific for the DS and there are quite a few CG cutscenes throughout. Playing as all of the Organization members(as well as some secret characters) in mission mode is fun too. This game feels like a portable version of the first Kingdom Hearts, which is awesome because I didn't care much for the card battling in Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II wasn't really challenging at all and was very much just a button masher(well, a lot more than the games in the series already were)(They were both good games though, just not as good as the first). My only complaint is how most of the missions are the same, just different enemies/worlds and how the story seems to be getting more and more difficult to follow. Now I only have to wait half a year or so for Birth by Sleep to be localized...

I'll admit that the tutorial is stupid and really could be shortened to just a screen that tells you how to do stuff that could read in a minute if you have never played any Kingdom Hearts games.

It doesn't advance the story, but I do enjoy the backstory to the characters. It just shows you what went on while Sora was at Castle Oblivion.

KH2 was just button-mashing while KH was actually challenging. And it does feel like a portable KH, except that you are Roxas and that you follow a different side of the storyline.

Hard mode would like a word with you. ...Though you're mostly right even with hard mode actually :(. Only struggled marginally in that game.

Might have to go find a guide about the story in this game. It's likely I'll never play it, but I'd like to know what happens in case it gets referenced in BBS or KH3.

They may reference an organizational member "Number XIV".

Anything on hard mode may be a little more difficult; however, I was talking about strategy. In KH, you have to think sometimes what magic works on which boss or what magic you need to use. In KH2, I really did not have to use magic to beat the heartless. Of course, I would you Cure, but that may have been the extent to which I used magic in that game.

Havn;t posted in a million years, Wiiiiiiii!!!!

Played, and am currently replaying it now. I enjoyed it, but it is kind of repetitive, and the complaints about the story not adding much are pretty much true...so far...(more on that later). And those challenge quests are annoying. some of the requirments for completing them are ridiculous, and you have to get at least one embelm in every single one in order to unlock all the secret reports (I just read them off the KH wiki). I think the level design was a bit of an improvment over KH2's at least...It was nice to actually get to explore and look for treasure chests and find new areas, unlike part 2. Andthey certainly came up with a lot of new enemies, and cool keyblade designs.

As for the plot thing...at the moment the plot really doesn;t effect anything in the many series BUT...there is some suggestion in Birth By Sleep that the events of this game *may* start getting refrenced in future game installments.
