Moms and Video Games...

Does anyone else find it odd when your mom (or dad) starts to get into a video game? My mom just started Animal Crossing so she's not completely addicted yet, but she will be. This isn't even the first game. During Toy Story 2, she spent all of her time on the Playstation. I made a lot of dinners during that time. And A Bug's Life. She got so frustrated with that game. She's already spending more time playing video games then I do and that's just wrong!

My parents used to play the Mario game for regular Nintendo with us, that's the first game we had and what hooked all us kids! ^_^ They really stunk though, couldn't get past the first hole...now, they protest us playing too much but they still buy us games...

LOL! Yes, I have a gamer mom also. She bugs me all the time to play F-Zero with her...XD (She doesn't like the Grand Prix mode so she wants to play vs...>.>) hehe She doesn't play very long though; she's like me and has too many problems with her hands to keep at it very long.

My mom will occasionally play SSBM or MKDD but never anything with a forward moving plot. If you ask her what her favorite video game is she'll say Aladdin because she played that once when the Genisis was hooked up.
My dad, on the other hand, used to play all the time. He's the self-proclaimed master of Crash Team Racing and beat the all the Crash Bandicoot games for Playstation. He doen't play as much now, but he still will if he has time.

My mom is WONDERFUL at video games. She plays them all the time! She's nearly beaten Yoshi's Story, Banjo-Kazooie, Luigi's Mansion, Glover, and a TON more. She LOVES Adventure games. My dad bought Rogue Squadron for his enjoyment but b/c of work he doesn't play it often. He'll play Mariokart or Bust A Move with me and my sisters, though.

My mom used to play Sonic the Hedgehog back in the Sega Genesis days. Dad plays Solitaire on the computer and I've just recently introduced him to Minesweeper.

Da plays Age of Empires religiously on the computer. And Mario Cart. Religiously. And that's about it.

Yeah, I guess I could say my parents are moderate gamers. My dad generally likes the simulation & puzzle games, while my mom is an RPG nut. (Now if she'd only learn to not worry about whether she's done every little thing possible in the games she starts and just finish them...
) And in the NES days, I don't think they enjoyed playing any game
together as much as Bubble Bobble. But my dad gets motion sickness so he doesn't play anything that moves too fast.

Some of my best friends are avid gamers. They've recently discovered that they can't play nearly as much now that they have children. Why do I feel like I'm on the wrong side of this thread...?

It's bad enough when they're spending hours a day playing a game, but when they're better then you, thet's bad! She's all "Try A Bug's Life. It's great!" So I tried it and well... I ended up nearly throwing the controller across the room... while I was still in training.

My mother got addicted to Animal Crossing for a year, but after she paid off her mortgage she stopped playing it. My father plays racing games (not that we have too many of those) when we need an extra player.
Mostly, though, my parents are content to watch us play--games with beautiful graphics in particular. My father also enjoys discussing with us (that is, my sister and I) about what makes a good game.
But I got lucky. My parents are college professors, so they are usually way too busy for video games.

My dad enjoyed playing Crazy Taxi before; he had a lot of fun doing all the things he WISHES he could do on the road in real life.

My dad used to play old school games, like Pac-Man. We used to have a full arcade version of Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. o.O Now, my parents are too busy for stuff like that...

My mom paid off her motrgage too, but now she's decided to pay off everyone else's too! She stays up until usually 3:00 am fishing.
My mom likes games with pretty graphics too. She just can't appreciate great games like FF tactics Advance and Tactics Ogre.

I wish I had more videogame loving parents. My dad only plays computer videogames, and my mom doesn't really play at all. Except one game. It was sooo awesome to see her play a videogame! And she was obsessed with it, too!! She played Gaia for the Super Nintendo. She stayed up till all hours of the night playing it. The best thing about that was that my brother and I got to stay up, too!! With the boss enemies, we had to watch her health gauge to tell her when to use an herb *lol*. She was too busy concentrating. She was even better that me at the game! I didn't think she had the hand eye coordination in her!! You don't know how cool it was to see my mom roleplaying as a messy, deadly-flute-bearing kid. It's weird, because she doesn't understand any other anime or videogame related things I talk to her about. Near the very end of the game, she and we stayed up waaaay late to finish it. We felt kinda sad when she beat it. I wish she would get into videogames again!! I know she can be a "cool mam" if she really tries!!
EDIT: OOH! I just remembered! She played Jurassic Park for the Super Nintendo. She beat that one, too!! She was WAY better at me in that one. It was a lot harder. I bet the neighbors could hear all of our screams when a huge triceratops came out of the bushes, charging us!! *LOL*

Heheheh. My mom used to play the Sonic games all the time. You know, the ones made by Sega. Actually, she only played the first ones, but I was little then. Something went wrong with the console and she stopped playing. (We just recently got this 'Sonic Mega Collection' for gamecube it has a bunch of special features and alot of the old games(Sonic 1, 2, and 3, Sonic Spinball, Sonic and Knuckles, ect.))
My dad has always been into racing games and is a pro at 'Gran Turismo' and other racing games. He's also a major champion at pinball! My mom doesn't play video games much anymore, mainly because she has her own bussiness and doesn't have time. Just wondering, how many of you out there think the new Sonic games have lost there quallity?*slowly raises hand*

Yes...they have lost alot in the quality department. My biggest complaint with the new Sonic games is that there's no feeling of speed anymore like in the Genesis days. Sure there are parts in them where you get that rush, but it's not like in the old days where you could just blast through a level. That's besides the horrible new playable characters and the clumsy controls.

New player characters? Are you talking about Shadow, Cream, and the like?
I think the worst Sonic game was Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. Amy is horibbly out of character and Sonic just doesn't have that 'edge' to him anymore. I haven't played it but I've heard enough about it to know to stay away. I agree that the games don't have that feeling of speed anymore. In the first games you could get through a level in less than three minutes, were now it's totally different. These new games give Sonic a bad name:shake: Is anyone else confused by the comic series and all the cartoon series that seem to have totally different story lines than the game?

Yeah I meant the new playable characters. Oh yeah I totally agree they're all very out of place and well just plain bad characters. But I mean really Sonic is one game that can sacrifice it's story for everything else. I mean it never really had a good one to begin with, but please can Team Sonic please lose the even more pointless storylines that takes up playing time. About the comics and the cartoons I don't know I've never seen them so I couldn't say. But like I said never had a good story to begin with so I'm not worried about that I just want the feeling of speed back please!!

Well both of my parents are not real big gamer like me and my brothers but they play games. My dad is and expert at Galaica(or is it name Galaxy forgive me if I am wrong its been long time) arcade. My mom only plays one kind of game and that is Red Alert. She got hooked into it when I tought her to get by the game for the Playstation. She kept playing that game for about a two years. Then about a couple of months ago I gave her Red Alert 2 for the PC. She was delighted. But I had to teach her what to do this game. But once she got it she kept on playing it.

My mom and dad don't relaly care bout what I play, that's why all my brothers games are M rated, for violence, nad blood, as long as it's not sexual oriented (like one scene you have to skip is ok but not like playboy), my parents don't really care, I kind of like it, it means they trust me, so im satisfied
