Buying a New TV

Hey guys. Not sure if this is where I should ask this, so, ops feel free to move it as see fit.

I currently own a 36 cm/15 inch curved, standard 4:3 ratio TV, which I've had for the last 7+ years. I'm thinking of getting me a new TV come December/January. I have 2 decisions, based on what's in my budget:

1) A 72 cm/28 inch flatscreen, standard 4:3 ratio, CRT TV

2) A 66 cm/26 inch, widescreen LCD HD-Ready TV

Both are the same make and both basically cost the same (the first one is a little bit cheaper than the second one). Obviously the bigger size will be nicer, but I'm also looking at a long-term investment. I will mostly be using it for watching DVDs and playing games.

Recommendations?

If you're playing games on it, you'll likely want to make sure the TV has 1080p or can fake it really well, as that's what the two HD consoles on the market are aimed at. Really other than that, just keep an eye out for resolution and refresh rate. The higher the better.

Edit: Actually, game informer this month has an awesome article on some good HDTVs on the market, including some high quality cheapos that I'm eyeballing myself.

Unfortunately even the cheapest Full HD TVs are WAY above my budget :-(

You could always abandon TV... and live like me in the counter TV revolution. Honestly, life is better without the news telling you the world is going to end, it's bad enough with tests making your feel that way :P.
