Old School Manga

I'm curious as to why I don't hear too much about old school manga like Astro Boy or Cyborg 009 (which just came out). I know it has a more simplistic art style, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the writing and I actually like the art in Astro Boy and Cyborg 009. I own a GN of Astro Boy (vol 15) and like what I have read of Cyborg 009. Some of these older mangas have very deep themes, especially Osamu Tezuka's works. What is it about these mangas that turn people off? Some of them are quite good. Does anyone else here like old school?

I enjoyed what I have read of Astro Boy. It seemed to be pretty clean and the stories are very enjoyable. Astro Boy is a very likable character too. However, I do not like how the stories are in random order with the first GN having somewhat newer Astro Boy comics and the later GNs having older ones. The translation, entertainment value, and price more than make up for this, though.

ozamu tezuka, the greatest manga-ka ever. may god rest his soul. yep I enjoy old skool mangas, thats how I got to this ol fangled anime thang. astro boy, cyborg 009, 8 man, inspired america to make robocop. you should do a search on tezuka sans works on judeo-christian stories like "in the beginning". there are lots more than my brain cells could work on and remember. search my son, and you may see the light.

I just read the first volume of Astro Boy and also the first volume of Cyborg 009 and I think they were both pretty cool. The art is very simple, but this makes it much easier to read (for an old blind man like myself). The stories are strong and the themes are relevant and positive, even though they tend to deal with cold war issues. The more things change, the more they stay the same...

Just for the record and my own sanity, Tezuka only wrote Astro Boy. Cyborg 009 was written by Shotaro Ishinomori and 8Man was written by somebody else (Google wasn't very good at helping me with this).

Yes, older manga series are really great. Obviously many people write them off without ever giving them a chance due to the fact that they are old.

I made a mistake. I wanted to list all the old school mangas that I remember. not the ones tezuka osamu's created.
well to add more to the list, theres black jack, adolf,phoenix...etc.
and one of my personal classical fave, DOREAMON!!! do a seach on him too...
