When i saw this on the shelf i was like

Hehe... well that sounds about right for some japanese writers, who have no idea of the tenants of Christianity/Judaism, and just throw together plot elements borrowing from Christian/Judaism as if it was another form of mythology or legend.

This isn't altogether different from other stories in anime/manga, like "Angel Sanctuary", "Violinist of Hamelin", and other stories, where Christian names, terminology, or history is twisted around to fit into the storyline.

Not something that I like personally, per-se, but must be expected, as just about any other religion is written about (and likewise twisted around) in the same manner.

In the end, I just look at how much bastardization is done, and for what ultimate purpose... the manga you mention is something I'd probably not pick up, because more for the fact that I'm not much for the demon/vampire/dark genres for the most part than its twisting of any Christian doctrine or history.

About as bad as Western portrayals of Asian or Amerindian religion. It certainly sounds like a strange premise though.

well I've read volumes 1 to six and I could say it is twisted.

{SPOILERS AHEAD}

it tells the story about a priest who lost faith in God and wants to avenge his only love's (which is also his addoptive sister) death.
the reason he became a man of cloth is to avoid conflict with his surrogate father. ten years later he becomes a full time priest comes back to his old home and to his now grown up sister. he becomes envolved in a secret catholic research group who happens to stumble upon a mysteriously placed cathedral (a chathedral in the middle of the dessert? ). inside is a pillar looking thing with strange inscriptions on it which they identify as domos poradas. a fallen arch-angel is trapped inside and they needed a blood sacrifice. the unwitting priest helps translate the inscriptions, and another group sects captures the priest's sister/love and sacrifices her thus unleashing the evil within.
priest snaps and wanted vengeance, lucky for him there was another demon inside the box... and his name was belial.
belial was a human priest once, feared for his ways to make people repent for there sins. his faith was strong until the fallen archangel comes along shreds his humanity and faith by instructing his little helper (which he treats as his own child) to sacrifice himself and by murder. belial wanted vengeance from the devil and wanted to punish the fallen arch-angel by sealing himself and the fallen one inside domos poradas.

thats how it went in the book.
In the book they potray God as an uncaring bystander who seems to play around with peoples faith.
and they barely mentioned the lord (even though they like showing cruxifixes and rosaries all through out the book). but in Ivan's situation (the PRIEST) I feel pity for him. his anger is the only fuel that keeps him alive and human and nothing else.

by the way the korean term for comics is mhanua

Yep, "Priest" is a manwha (Korean manga). I haven't read it, and I don't think I will now. Thank you! That's just... too twisted.

What is even sadder than people taking Christianity as mythology and playing with it in fiction so much are some of the "real" beliefs out there... There are people out there who sincerly think that Jesus was a space alien.

I like what J.R.R. Tolkien said about Christianity - that it's the "true myth".
