What to get a former writer?

Postby Scarecrow » Fri Nov 28, 2008 4:03 pm

Hey, I was trying to figure out what to get one of my brothers for Christmas. I'm dead set against buying any video games or systems (they have em all anyway) and I'm having a hard time figureing what to get them since they don't do much else. Anyway, one used to like to write stories and poems. He entered a few poetry contests a few times. I think he became uninterested with no one to push him to do more writing or complement his writing (his teacher thought he was great and all but after he left her class, he never did much as noone gave him the attention she did). Anyway, I was trying to figure out what to get him that may spark his creative flow and maybe make him wanna try writing again. Any ideas? A few things that would make a good gift is kind of what I'm looking for or just a really nice idea. Don't worry about the prices I'll decide if its worth it or not.

No Plot No Problem by Chris Baty may or may not be a useful gift. It's about $15 in most bookstores.

Personally, though, I tend to find I'm most inspired to write when I read the stories of others. Novels, comics, short stories, et cetera, anything like that. Even movies (or occasionally games) if I'm in the right mood. If your brother has a particular favorite author or genre, maybe do some shopping in that area.
