Twilight's Origins

Postby Anison Twilight » Sat Jan 24, 2004 4:34 pm

I've been working on starting this for a while. This is the origin of Anison. Not the version of Anison in WCQ though. The original Anison.

Twilight's Origins

"I've been waiting."
"How long?"
"Too long."

"Is it really that bad?"
"Yes."
"You have what lots of people want."

"Who would want this?"
"He would."
"Oh, him..."

"How did it start?"
"With pain."
"How will it end?"

"With joy."
"Why?"
"Because He's waiting for me..."

Prologue

Cold stone was all the mysterious cloaked figure could see and feel in this dark passage, there wasn't a doorway and yet...
'Maybe on the other side...' He stepped through a rippling wall that was once cold stone.

* * * *

More dark, cold passages; more rippling, stone walls; then light. Torches in sconces lined the walls in the domed, round room the now more illuminated figure had stepped into. A small stone bench sat alone in the middle of the room, and on it sat an old woman.
"It's been a long time," the old woman began. Her voice held an ancient power to it of more years then it appeared she could possibly live. She coughed.
"Aye," said the figure,"long enough for me to redeem myself." He stepped forward throwing back the hood of his cloak, reveiling a head of silver hair and silver eyes.
"You have a lot that still needs redeeming," the old woman said.
"How much?"
"More than you're willing to admit."
The figure was silent as the old woman looked him over. "You still retain your youth," she said," but you seem tired."
"I'm only tired because of what I am," the young man said,"I'm older than you think."
"How much older?"
"How many lives have you?"
"Oh..."
"Yes, but I'd be older if I aged while time stopped."
The old woman looked at him with sypathy as she said,"You know as well as I do that-"
But the young man cut her off. "I might not physically, but my spirit is but a shadow." They sat in silence for a while until a bolt of lightning shattered it.
"Something's coming Anison, we both know it," the old woman started.
"Yes, but I would have to be the one to deal with it," Anison said.
"Not just you," the old woman started.
" Then who else?" Anison asked haughtily,"You, the people of this world, of this generation? They can't combat such power. You and I both know it." Anison's cloak billowed and a feather floated to the floor.
"Only you believe that Anison," the old woman replied calmly.
"These people can't keep from hurting themselves, what makes you think that they can stop the menace that bears down on this rock?" Anison yelled.
The old woman looked up at him. "Faith."
"Faith?" asked Anison," What is faith when there's nothing to believe in?"
"Who says I don't believe in something?"
"What can you believe in? Nothing not even you or me."
The old woman just sat there and stared at the cold, stone wall.
"You know why I'm here," Anison began.
"Yes, but the answer is no," the old woman said,"You'll not desert this planet in it's hour of need."
"Haven't I waited long enough?" Anison roared,"Isn't this enough for you?"
"We've both waited long enough Anison," the old woman said,"But I won't let this planet die."
"What about your faith?" Anison yelled. The old woman just sat there. "What do I need to do?" Anison asked. Again, she just sat there. "WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?!?" Another feather fell to the ground, this time it was on fire. The old woman followed it to the ground with her eyes. Moments later she picked up the its charred remains. She covered the feather in her hands. A bright light shone from underneath. She removed her hand to produce a small crystal.
"This will help you repent," she said as she handed the crystal to Anison.
As he took it Anison asked," What do I do with it?"
"You will know when the time comes."
Anison put the crystal away and they stood in silence again. Another bolt flashed.
"I'm dieing Anison,"
"You can't I might not be able to find you next time."
The old woman coughed.
"I'm sorry," With that she slumped and fell to the floor. A yell could be heard miles away as a ball of light consumed the tower the lightning danced around.

Sorry that it's been a while, but I haven't had much time to myself...
Anyway I'd like to point out that it might get a little graphic from here on out. Nothing obscenely horrible, but a little blood and violence. This is a warning so that you know that you may not want to read it. But, again, it's not that bad.
ONTO THE STORY!!!

********************************

Chapter 1

'It's raining again,' Eden thought, 'I wish I could see it. I used to love seeing the rain.'
The thunder boomed outside the inn. Eden had inherited it from her parents when they'd died. Eden's eyes began to water as she thought of them and everything she'd lost when they had died.
"Is something wrong Miss?" the guest asked.
Eden wiped her eyes, "No, nothing." She handed him a key as he handed her a bag of gold.
She frowned, "This isn't enough."
"Oh, I'm sorry," he said as he handed her more gold.
"Thank you, first door on the left. Enjoy your stay."
"Thank you young miss," the man said. Eden smiled, he was a polite man she'd probably send an extra loaf of bread to his and his family's room.
Eden was a young woman of 18, she had a slightly shapely figure. It got her in trouble sometimes, but she could usually take care of herself with her bow and staff.
The bell above the door rang signifying the entrance of some one else. It was a young man about her age, maybe older. She smiled up at him, because he was a taller person, and said, "Can I help you?"
The young man didn't talk, but dropped a bag of gold on the desk. Eden held up the bag and, startled, laughed.
"This isn't much gold, in fact, it's no where near the cost for a room here."
"Sorry, but that's all I have."
Eden was taken aback by the sheer amount of sorrow in the young man's voice. The sorrow seemed to be from a wounded spirit, but Eden couldn't completely tell.
"I can give you a room, but it won't be much," she stuttered.
"That's fine," he said, "but I will need some bandages."
Eden nodded. She led him to a door that opened up into a room under the stairs with a cot and a small table in it. The young man laughed for a while, confusing Eden. The sorrow didn't leave his voice even as he laughed.
"This is all you get for what you gave me," Eden said.
The man coughed as he settled down and Eden handed him some bandages.
"Thank you, this is fine, I've been out of touch with people so long that I haven't..." His voice trailed off. Eden sensed he was looking at her, so looked up at him. The young man sighed, "I'm sorry about the fire,"
Eden was so startled that she almost jumped. "Do I know you?" she stuttered.
The man moved into the room she'd provided. "No," he said and shut the door.

* * *

Later, after dark, Eden took food to the different lodgers of her inn. She lit candles and candelbras for them so they could see around their rooms and in the hall. Afterward she took the mysterious young man some food as well. She carried the tray in one hand as she knocked on the door. As he answered it her tray began to topple, but he caught it before the contents spilled onto the floor.
"Thank you," Eden said blushing, "This is your dinner." The spread was composed of modest portions of ham, rolls, and vegetables from the garden behind the inn.
"Thank you," the young man replied, "this is much appreciated. I haven't had a meal like this for a long time." This comment confused Eden and she raised an eyebrow. "Sorry, I've been on the road for," the young man paused, "a while."
"Well, I hope you enjoy it." Eden said. She left the tray with him and left to her room which was behind the front counter.

* * *

She was running through the hall looking for her parents.
"Mom," the little girl called, "Dad! Where are you?" The walls were ablaze; the red tounges cackling to each other.
"We've swallowed them," they seemed to say, "forever!"
The little girl heard shrieks. She ran more until she came to a door; the door the screams had come from. "Mom! Dad!" she called again. She burst into the room and shrieked at the horror she beheld. She began to cry, the tears evaporating as they touched the ground. The more the tears, the quicker they evaporated. Then the floor creaked and fell through.
Eden woke up in a cold sweat screaming. The smell of smoke caused a chill to run up her spine. She jumped up and sped from her room, into the main lobby. The mysterious young man was standing there facing three men who were dressed in ragged clothing. Eden bagan to run upstairs, but was halted by the heat of flames in front of her face.
"They're already gone," the young man said, "These three killed them."
Eden stepped back. "What is your name?" she asked.
"Anison," the young man said simply.
The three men launched at Anison and Eden heard the sounds of three drawn swords.
"Watch out!" Eden cried.
There was a clash of metal as Anison pulled a scythe out of no where. Anison smirked as he parried all of their swords at once, then sliced the man directly in front of him multiple times. The man cried out as he fell to the floor. The other two men had surrounded Anison by now trying to wear him thin. They both rushed at him thrusting their swords forward. Anison disappeared leaving the two men to skewer themselves because of their momentum. As the men fell Anison grabbed one and pulled him by his collar to eye-level.
"Who are you?" the man asked as he gasped for breath.
"Just a wanderer," Anison replied, "My turn to ask questions. Who sent you and why are you doing this?"
"Like I would tell you." the man smirked.
Another man stepped out of the shadows behind Eden and grabbed her, pinning her arms behind her back with one hand, and holding a knife to her throat with the other. The man Anison held coughed blood as he was tossed to the floor.
"Don't move or she dies," the man holding Eden said.
Anison shrugged, "What is she to me? She's just an aquaintance."
The man put the knife closer to Eden's throat. A little flame burst from Eden's fingers that seared the man's arm. The man panicked and began to wave the burning appendage around madly.
"We've got to get out of here," Anison yelled over the roaring flames, "This place will collapse soon!"
"I need to get my things," Eden yelled in reply.
Anison yelled, "No time!" as he dashed past Eden and over the counter, where he grabbed her weapons and tossed them to her. Eden caught her stuff as Anison grabbed her and dashed out the door.
Eden heard the roar of many flames all around them and exclaimed, "The village is on fire!"
Anison kept running until they had left the village far behind with Eden screaming to go back and help. Anison finally halted when they reached a tree next to a stream in the grassland fields. As Anison sat her down he asked her a question.
"Are you hurt?"
"No," she replied simply.
"Then why are you crying?" he asked.
She hadn't even noticed the tears rolling down her cheek. She sniffed.
"I'm sorry it's just-" she began.
"It's alright," Anison replied, "I understand. Losing everything at once can be quite devastating."
Eden looked up at him. "I wish I could see your face sir," she whispered.
Anison grimaced, "Don't call me sir. As I said before, my name is Anison."
Eden hesitantly reached up to his face, placing her hands gently on his cheeks. Her right hand ran over a cross-shaped scar on his left cheek. His skin was smooth and he had bushy hair that fell into place and moved with the wind.
"What color are your eyes?" she asked.
"Silver," he replied.
"And your hair?"
"Same."
Eden sighed as she dropped her hands from his face to the confines of her lap.
"I'm sorry," she began, her voice beginning to break, "I-"
Anison shushed her. Eden burried her head in her hands. Anison moved about preparing camp while Eden cried herself to sleep.

Wow, it's been a long time folks, sorry about that, but I kinda start a project and forget about it real easy. Gomen. Anyway I know you guys have probably forgotten about this by now, but here is the second chapter...FINALLY!!!

*****************

Chapter 2

Eden awoke the next morning to find no sight or trace of Anison. She looked around herself everywhere, but saw nothing except the tree. She looked up into the tree and saw nothing, but leaves and branches. Something touched her shoulder. She spun, prepared to fight whatever had touched her. She swiped right but only met air.
"It's okay," Anison said," it's just me."
Eden relaxed a little as she reached out to him. Her hand met his bare shoulder, not his face as she had expected. She looked up at him questioningly as she realized he was damp.
"I found a stream," Anison said before she could ask, "You can go bathe if you wish."
She blushed as she realized she smelled of smoke, sweat, and grime. She was going to accept when she realized that she didn't know this person other than his name. He might spy on her, which, to her, was not a fond concept.
"Don't worry," Anison interjected into her thoughts, "The stream is a ways off, and I need to pick up camp."
Eden's face flushed a deeper shade of red as she began to stammer a reply," B-but I don't have any clothes to change into."
Anison handed her a stack of clothes. "You'll have to do something about undergarments-" Eden's face coudn't get any redder, "But I think these will do fine for now."
Eden took the stack and murmured a thanks before running down to the stream.

* * *

She felt very refreshed as she came back to the camp even though the clothes were too loose on her. The shirt was tolerable, she'd have to find some rope at the camp to hold up the pants. She kept them up with one hand, the other carrying her dirty clothes as she entered camp.
"Hey, Anison!" she called.
"Yes?" He replied, "What is it?"
"I need something to hold up these pants."
Anison handed her some ropeand she mumbled her gratitude. She strung the rope through the unusual loops around that were around the waist and tied it in front. She patted down the length of her pants to discover multiple pockets.
"Where did you get these pants?" Eden inquired as she rolled up the ends so that they didn't drag the ground.
"It's a new style in a far away place."
"Really?" She sensed Anison nod and added, "Cool."
"That's what they said," Anison quipped, stifling a laugh.
Eden laughed. They picked up the remains of the camp and set out south across the plains. The wind began to blow Eden's long hair, Anison's cloak, and the long grass of the fields around them as they trecked on. Eden could sense it before it attacked. The thing was about five feet long and covered head to tail in bristles. It was a Lamoneth, a wolvish creature who attacked unwary travelers in this region. Without thinking Eden whipped her bow from her back, notched, and shot an arrow. The arrow glanced off the bristles which were near metalic and doubled as armor. The Lamoneth grolwed and flipped throwing bristles from its tail at Eden. She screamed as Anison appeared, as if from nowhere, and blocked the needles with his scythe. Anison charged the beast who, in turn, leaped at him. Anison ducked and struck upward into the exposed belly of the Lamoneth, slicing the creature in two. Some blood got onto Anison's cloak and face. He wiped it off of his face, leaving it to stain his cloak.
He turned to Eden as he put his scythe away under his cloak.
"Where did you learn to fight like that?" Eden asked as she put her bow away.
"Over time, through experience, and with many trials," Anison replied.
"Well that's a cryptic answer," Eden huffed.
Anison was quiet as they continued across the plains.

* * *

They continued rather uneventfully until Eden asked, "Where are we going?"
"I don't know why you're following me, but we're-"
"WHAT!?!" Eden exclaimed blocking Anison's path, "You don't know why I'm following you? What did you expect me to do after my house burnt down?"
"Find a new home," Anison answered bluntly.
Eden just stood there, mouth agape as Anison brushed passed by her and began walking on again.
He turned his head over his shoulder as he walked and called back to her, "We're going to see an old friend who can help me find some one."
Eden ran to catch up as Anison stopped suddenly in the middle of the field. Eden came to a halt and asked, "Why are you stopping?"
Anison was silent as he bent over and searched the ground.
"What are you doing?"
"Please quit asking questions," Anison said, "I'm looking for something."
"Well, I guessed that much," Eden replied sarcastically, "but what are you looking for?"
Anison stopped and tapped on something three times. Eden heard something open then heard a voice.
"Who is it?" the voice gumpily called.
"Who do you think it is?" Anison called back.
"Anison?" the voice inquired. A hatch opened in the ground and a stout old man popped out of it. "Well bury me in poop and call me a dung beetle, it is you," the little man cried.
"Yep," Anison replied, "I need help locating her again."
"Who?" Anison just stared at the man.
"Oh, her! Well, come on in," the man said, "And who's your friend?"
"This is Eden. I kinda need to find a place where she can live."
"Don't look at me, I barely like living here myself."
"You're a crotchety old man, you know that?"
"You'ld be crotchety too, if you lived in a hole in the ground."
There was a pause as they looked at each other. Then, they laughed like old friends.
The old man turned to Eden and said, "I'm Solstice, come on in."
With that Solstice dissappeared into the ground, followed by Anison, who Eden then followed. The hatch shut on its own. Inside books and papers cluttered the shelves, tables, and floor of Solstice's home.
"Why do you have so many books?" Eden asked as she nearly fell over a stack of the afore mentioned clutter.
"I like books," Solstice shrugged, "That alright with you?"
Eden huffed.
"Back to why we're here," Anison interupted before Eden could retort, "Where is she? The last time I saw her she was living in Talorus."
"I've not been able to locate her recently," Solstice began, "Either she doesn't want to be found, or something else doesn't want her to be found."
Anison was silent as Eden piped up, "Who are you looking for?"
Anison faced her sorrow and exhaustion mixed on his otherwise emotionless face.
"Someone who can help me," he said, "Help me sleep a much needed slumber."
Everyone sat in silence as Eden wondered what Anison meant with this strange response. 'If he's tired,' she thought, 'why doesn't he just sleep?' But she'd heard the exhaustion in his voice. It wasn't the normal, or even a sleep-deprived, exhaustion; it was something deeper and more elusive than that.
Anison broke Eden's trance as he stood up from the stool he'd been sitting on and said, "Well, thanks anyway Solstice, but I'd like to make it to the forest before nightfall. And I want to find a place where Eden can go."
Eden was a little perturbed by the fact that Anison never asked her opinion of any of what he was deciding for her.
"Good luck, then, in finding her," Solstice replied. He picked up a book and began to read as Anison and Eden left. They exited the homely hole through the hatch they'd entered from.
As Eden climbed out of Solstice's home Anison shut the hatch and sighed.
"Which way is this forest you were talking about, Anison, and why are we going there?"
"Do you always ask questions?" Anison inquired, looking up at her.
"Yes, especially when you don't tell me what we're doing before we do it," she replied angrily.
Anison stood up and turned east. "The forest is this way, and why we're going there will be clear when we arrive."
I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.

<.< >.> *crickets churp* I know. It's been a while. Let's see...WHOA! 6-2-04 Almost a year. Now that you guys have lost interest and forgotten what this is here's the next chapter. I promise to work on it more. I promise!!!

************************

Chapter 3

Eden's stomach growled as they reached their destination. On the edge of the forest a light mist sprinkled, causing small droplets of water to roll down Eden and Anison's faces.
"This forest has a constant mist," Anison said, holding his hand out to feel the mist, "But for some reason it isn't humid here."
"This is a magical place," Eden barely whispered.
The droplets of water glistened like diamonds on the emerald leaves of the trees. The blossoms and flowers were like precious gems, glimmering and shining with crystal brilliance.
Eden moved toward a beautiful sapphire flower. She, cautiously, touched the petals, causing the flower to fall, floating gently to the ground where it shattered into dust.
"Be mindful of what you touch," Anison said as he came up behind her, "This forest is called the Crystal Wood. The plants here grow like plants, but look and break like crystal."
Eden's stomach growled again, making her blush. "Is there something here I can eat?"
Anison moved to a bush full of glistening red berries. He pulled off a branch of the bush, picked a berry from the branch, and ate it.
"Well?" inquired Eden hungrily.
Anison grinned and tossed the branch to her. "They are quite sweet," he replied, "I'll see if I can't catch us something else to eat." As Anison turned to go he hesitated. " I really wish you could see this place. It is beautiful."
"I can see it, in a way, but not like most people can. I see things with a different sense. I can't tell what it is, but, somehow, I can see something even though I shouldn't be able to. I can't see it with the vividity of real sight, and it seems like an emotionless sight, in all. If there was a way for me to get my true eye-sight back..." she sighed, "I would want to come back here."
"I would want to be there as well," Anison said as he left.

* * * *

As Anison stirred the stew he'd made from the pheasant he'd caught. He dumped in vegetable he had in a pack that was kept hidden somewhere in his cloak. Eden sniffed at the stew as its scent filled the air. She sighed as Anison sipped at it to see if it had cooked enough.
"It's ready," he said, "Here, use this." Anison produced a bowl and handed it, full, to Eden. "Would you like some rice?" he asked.
"No thanks," she replied. Anison filled another bowl half full of rice, then poured stew over it. He handed Eden a spoon and pulled out a fork for himself. They ate in silence for a while until Eden's bowl was empty and Anison refilled it. As they went back to eating they heard a giggle nearby. Anison ignored it, but Eden stiffened as she heard a flutter of wings. "What was that?" she whispered.
"Sylphs," Anison replied, "faeries, whatever you want to call them." He ladled himself another bowl of stew and rice. "They're mostly harmless," he continued as the pot knocked over, as if of its own volition, "but they're extremely mischievious."
"Can we stop them?" Eden asked as Anison moved around as if trying to avoid something. He was seemingly dodging an unseen foe and trying to eat at the same time.
"Not really," he replied, "it would be easier to dodge them." He continued to move and eat awkwardly until his bowl was knocked out of his hand. Something began pulling at Eden's hair and caused her to start screaming.
"Stop that," a small voice cried from the air.
"Stop pulling on my hair," Eden nearly screeched.
"Why? It's fun."
"Not for me it isn't."
As Eden argued with the sprite that couldn't be seen, Anison pulled a small ocarina out of his cloak.
"What's that?" inquired the curious, little, unseen sylph. The tension on Eden's hair slackened as Anison played a few notes.
"It's an ocarina," he replied nonchalantly.
"An ocarina?" The voice sounded entranced.
Anison played softly a beautiful tune. As Anison played the tune, Eden began to "see" the young sprite that had been plaguing their camp. The sprite was very small, she could sit in the palm of Eden's hand. She wore a blue dress that hung to her ankles and matching slippers. The sleeves of the dress went past her wrists, almost completely covering her hands. The collar line was slightly low and her short hair was the same shade if blue as a sapphire, which matched her eyes. The casual glance would yield a flower with wispy wings.
The little sylph alighted on Anison's knee, transfixed on the melody eminating from the little instrument in the hands of this mysterious wanderer. As Anison finished the tune he bent forward and whispered something to the tiny sprite. She giggled, then flew away.
"What was that all about?" Eden inquired suspiciously.
"It's not important," Anison replied nonchalantly, "I suggest we bed down here for the night." Anison began putting the supplies up and unrolled a mat that he'd pulled out of his cloak.
"How do you keep all that stuff in your cloak?" Eden asked rather confusedly.
Anison looked up at her for a minute before answering, "Magic of a sort. There are people who live a long distance from here in flying cities. They help travelers by making their load lighter. How they do this is through enchanting certain items to hold things, but never get full. These people are very peaceful, and they have become accustomed to my visits." With that Anison layed down on the second mat he had prepared and, seemingly, fell asleep. Eden followed the example and fell asleep on her mat as well.

* * * *

Noises woke Eden as the moon reached its zenith. The pale light was cast down through the sparce openings of the forest canopy. She sat up and looked around, trying to see what had awakened her, when she realized that she could see. Eden gasped, then looked about her person. She looked at her feet, her hands, and all about herself. She looked up from her self search to find that Anison was missing.
She stood up and listened about for any sign of him. "Anison?" she called, but to no avail. She then heard a low melody that sounded as if it came from Anison's ocarina. "Anison?" Eden called again, but still no answer. Eden followed the sound of the eerie tune until she came to a ring of trees that surrounded a lake of crystal clear water. The tune grew stronger as she grew nearer. Eden stepped quietly out from the bushes that grew around the trees around the edge of the lake. She gasped at the wonder that she saw. Anison was sitting on the remains of a tree that jutted out of the water. He was playing his ocarina. His silver hair glistened as if it had been freshly soaked. His eyes were closed as he played a mysterious melody. He was naked from the waist up, revealing many scars. Eden was slightly concerned with the scars that ranged all over his body. The scars hadn't made Eden gasp.
It was the wings.
Wings the color of freshly fallen snow, flowed from Anison's back. They sat barely folded at his sides, glistening in the pale moonlight.
Eden was speechless as Anison played, she couldn't stop from staring at him. Eden took a step out into the water, unconsciously trying to get close to the music. As her foot touched the smooth stones of the lake farther from the shore she slipped forward into a concealed trench in the lake. Eden's breath was taken away by the stark cold of the lake's water. The last thing she saw was a hand reach down for her before everything went black.

* * * *

When Eden awoke next she found herself drenched in a cold sweat. Her head moved to let her eyes see about the campsite only to realize that she was blind again. Blind to nature, to people, and the world Eden pulled her knees up under her chin and wept bitterly at the cruel dream she'd had.

Yay! I'm so glad you've started writing this again. Can't wait to see where you're going with it. I <3 Eden! ... Oh, and Anison. >.>
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

2 Samuel 6: 21&22

"I am going to take this bucket of water and pour it on the flames of hell, and then I am going to use this torch to burn down the gates of paradise so that people will not love God for want of heaven or fear of hell, but because He is God."
