"Big Mistake" and "A Letter to my Best Friend"

Postby GwenneZ » Sun Jun 14, 2009 10:01 am

These are based off of the same story that I wrote. "Big Mistake" came first.

Big Mistake

It was a dark night. She heard the owls hooting and the wolves howling. The trees swayed in the breeze. The cold bit right down to her core.

The blond haired, blue eyed Inosento was walking in the forest by herself in the dead of night. She heard cracking of twigs right beside her. She snapped her head around to see what the noise was.

All of a sudden a huge, shaggy, dark brown wolf jumped out at her and pounced. Inosento quickly dodged, but the wolf wasn’t done with her. He started circling her. Around and around and around he traveled.

Oh how Inosento wished she hadn’t gone alone without any protection. She was defenseless. Like her name, she was innocent, yet she was going to be this wolf’s next meal.

When there was an opening in the circle, she took advantage of it. Inosento tried to lunge out of that circle, but was cut short when the wolf jumped in front of her, snarling.

She jumped back, afraid, and tripped over a root that was sticking up out of the ground. Landing backwards, she was frozen with fear on the dirt, leaves, and pine needles of the forest floor.

The wolf approached her, his yellowed teeth barred, growling. The closer the wolf got the faster Inosento’s heart beat.

I’m going to die. I am going to die, Inosento thought. I’m so naïve. I can’t believe I actually agreed to do this dare.

The wolf lunged. Inosento was knocked onto her back. As the creature’s teeth pressed into Inosento’s shoulder, his claws dug into her chest. Inosento let out a blood-curdling scream. The wolf yanked it’s head, ripping and tossing a chunk of her shoulder.

Inosento black out. The wolf kept at his foul game: tearing her to shreds.

Inosento woke up. She felt no more pain. Her eyes opened slowly. The first thing she noticed is that she was floating. Next, that she was giving off this kind of…glow.

Then she realized what she was.

A ghost.

A Letter to my Best Friend

Dear Sakura,

I have a long story to tell you. Trust me though, it’s not boring. You may not even believe it. I reassure you, it is all true. Just please don’t become angry with me. Because now I know how stupid dares are; I’m asking you, please –please, please, please- don’t take any dares. Here’s why.

You recall Yuu’s birthday party, don’t you? Remember when we were playing truth-or-dare and I got dared to go into Yotsuba Forest. Well, that started this whole thing. Now I’m… well you’ll see.

It was last Saturday. Hayate –Yuu’s boyfriend- was with me; well, he watched me walk into it that is. Being a wimp like he is he didn’t dare come in with me. Kurogane would’ve, though. You know Kurogane and how much he meant to me. He was my boyfriend, after all.

Anyway, the forest was spooky. I could hear the owls’ hoots and the wolves’ howls. It was immensely cold.

Then, all of a sudden, crack! I snapped my head around to see what the noise was. I found out all right. I found out when a huge, shaggy, dark brown wolf jumped out at me. And when I say huge, I mean gargantuan!

It started circling me, but when there was an opening in the circle, I took advantage of it. I shot towards that opening at one hundred miles per hour. But I guess one hundred miles was too slow, because that wolf jumped right in front of me. It was smiling, but an evil, vicious smile –and snarling.

Startled as I was, I jumped back, and –like the klutz I am- tripped over a tree root that was sticking up out of the ground. Okay, I was scared –who wouldn’t have been- and frozen with fear on the dirt, leaves, and pine needles of the forest floor. My heart was racing and the closer the wolf got with his growling, yellow toothed mouth the faster my heart decided to go.

I thought I was going to die then, and how naïve I was to actually follow through with that stupid dare.

It all went down hill from there. The beast lunged at me and knocked me onto my back. As its teeth sank into my shoulder, the wolf’s giant claws dug into my chest. I let out a blood-curdling scream –who wouldn’t have (other than someone with mental problems) it hurt! And then, after the wolf yanked its head taking a chunk of my shoulder I blacked out.

The next thing I remember is waking up –still on the forest floor, mind you-, but, it didn’t hurt anymore- I felt no amount of pain. Then I noticed something extremely particular- I was floating. Also, I was giving off this- this glow.

Then, it came to me:

I was a ghost.

Don’t worry, though. I’ll always remember the fun times we had.
