I can only sweep

I was sweeping the kitchen tonight and remembered back to when I was younger. Whenever it was time to clean the house, my mom would assign chores to everyone based on what they were most capable of doing. She always got to do the "cool" jobs, like vaccuuming and mopping. While I usually got stuck wiping down the counters or picking up my toys.

I remember saying "Mom, I want to help you clean, but not this way. I want to do something else." And she would always reply, "Katie, you're not old enough to do that yet. Help in the ways you can."

In my spiritual life, I find myself all to often saying "But Father, I don't want to take care of this right now, I want to do that. It's more important." And he always responds with "Katie, help in the ways you can. That's what's important." There's nothing more humbling than seeing yourself unchanged from the child you used to be.

Anyway, just something I've been thinking about.

Wow, thats very true. Seems we all want to be doing the other persons job, because we believe its more fun, or that we could help more if we did it. But, we probably wouldnt be able to handle it, which is why we have to be faithful with what job we have now ^-^

Thanks ^-^ its a very good point.

I like this post because that's something that's been shown to me as well, namely, the importance of being faithful in the small things.

Matthew 25 is a good one too in the parable of the talents. It shows how we're held responsible for what we've been given, regardless of how much we've been given.

No problem! I love that passage because it reminds me that God blesses faithfulness and not necessarily talent. Oftentimes I have gotten discouraged because I feel that I have no talent. I just have to put to use what I've been given and that's all there is to it! I pray that God would give me the faithfulness I need to handle the responsibility.
