Agnostic Tired of Anti-Christian Sentiment Among Other Non-Christians

Anyway, I'm an agnostic, but I don't have very many other agnostic/athiest friends, both in real life and cyberspace, because so many of them, apparently their favorite hobby is making fun of and criticizing Christians. They act like the Bible and Christianity is their enemy, and they have a us-versus-them attitude towards Christians. I disagree with them. While I certainly don't personally agree with everything Christianity teaches, I don't hate Christians at all. I believe that you don't have to always believe in the same things and hold the same opinions to be friends with someone or to like and respect them. In fact, the more posts I read from the dedicated Christians here at CAA, the more I "like and respect" you, even though I have no plans in converting to Christianity anytime soon.

Well, you can be sure we appreciate the sentiment. I always do get a little frustrated with people who say that Christians should be accepting and tolerant of everything, and yet they themselves are very unaccepting towards us. So it's always nice to meet someone like you, who won't get angry and yell at us for believing what we believe.

Just today I was reading some of the atheist blogs I frequent and wondering if there was anyone who held a position like yours. Many people are respectful, but that doesn't mean they have any actual respect for given positions (and there is a difference).

I've met people as well that tend to have an outward respect of other religious, but inwardly disdain them. However, it's somewhat encouraging to meet people who aren't so militant against Christianity such as yourself. At least then there can be some dialogue without a yelling match on either side of the conversation. Welcome, by the way!

Yours is a refreshing point of view and I wish more people shared it. I'm not asking non-Christians to agree with me, I'm just asking that they respect my opinion the same way that I try to respect theirs.

To be sure though, so-called Christendom has more than a few lamers, many within high positions, and countering rather depressing trends within our own movement can be rather difficult without the sort of outward fighting that results in more schisms and denominational faction-fighting. I would imagine looking from the outside in at the various farces occuring among those brothers and sisters who bring shame upon us all would take it's toll after a while. A lot of the atheist and agnostic complaints really do, if we had the ears to hear, highlight the things in which our Western church has failed in her calling.

Ya know techniquely speaking, agnostic literally means ignoramus. ^_^ Just pointing that out. I get kinda happy in a sick and commie way when people say they hate Christians like me. If people get that upset...then I must be doing be doin' something right! ^__^

Wrong, USSRGirl. Agnostic literally means "unknowable," meaning that an agnostic holds that the existance or nonexistance of God is unknowable. It has nothing to do with being an ignoramus and everything to do with believing some things cannot be discovered. While Christians disagree on what can be known and what is unknown, we also believe that we cannot and will not know everything about God in this lifetime, so there is no reason to be snippy about this.

I know that agnostics believe in the possibility of a God, but not really in any personal relationship. That wasn't what I was saying, Puritan. I don't want to be nitpicky or anything, but there's a right way and a wrong way to have this attitude. Jesus says to rejoice when you are persecuted, yet Paul encourages us to get along with people as best we can. Persecution should never be our fault personally; it naturally happens when we inevitably come across a person that is hostile towards our faith.

Of course, I'm not accusing you of having a bad attitude or anything, USSRGirl. It's just a thought that I wanted to share.

Side note: If Gnostic has a silent G. Yet we say "agnostic" with a g-sound. Would "A-nostic" still be a correct pronounciation by any chance?

Dictionary.com says no.

Generally speaking, words don't necessarily keep their same pronunciations when in different forms. This happens fairly commonly in the English language.

Merriam Websters dictionary: Definition of ignorant is: lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified. Person who holds such a quality is by definition an ignoramus.

Merriam Webster dictionary: Agnostic literally means "unknown" or "unknowable" more specifically unknowable when concerning a creator or God. Thus...TECHNIQUELY...my description was still accurate.
