New Muppet Movie details emerge

Source.

The plot of the newest Muppets’ project has been revealed by a source to The Playlist. Riding the wave of its new director (Flight of the Conchords‘ auteur James Bobin), the Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time now has an official title and a story that sounds vaguely familiar to Blues Brothers. Check it out:

The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time is about Gary, Mary, and Walter (a man, his girlfriend, and the man’s life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend) getting the old Muppet gang — now retired entertainers known for the same Muppet show we know them from — together to save the TV studio that the original show was shot in. A villain, Tex Richman (nice name, on par with Doc Hopper), bent on drilling for oil underneath the studio, is due to take over the studio in weeks and the only way to stop him? Putting on a show that draws ten million viewers.

Will there be a cameo by Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues? Just sayin’.
The flick is being scribed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), and Jason Segal (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, How I Met Your Mother). It was previously titled The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made.
Does this plot sound familiar to you? Can Segal and Stoller pull this one off?

I don't know about you guys, but this looks like a pretty killer combination. Flight of the Conchords + How I Met Your Mother + Muppets? Incredible.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."
