favorite Tim Burton Movie

Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors. I love his offbeat style. So I was wondering if anyone here has a favorite of his movies. For me, if I had to pick one, it'd be Edward Scissorhands. It's also kind of out of character because it's his saddest. Most of his films don't get this sad, if at all. (Big Fish wasn't sad, just heartwarming, IMHO)

I also like Edward Scissorhands a lot. Pee Wee's Big Adventure was fun too. But generally I'm not a big fan of Burton so I sort of consider those isolated incidents. XD

I enjoy Burton's overall Gothic style, but otherwise he's kind of not always living up to what he tries to do. Exceptions would be Sweeny Todd, where his style actually does work.

Big Fish. It's my all-time favorite movie, but it's also one of the few Tim Burton movies that didn't become the poster child for Hot Topic at any point in time. XD It's just quirky and weird enough to be intriguing in an imaginative way, but not so weird as to garner the attention of the 13-year old Hot Topic crowd. XD

Yeah, I really liked Big Fish (though I haven't read the book) but most of his other movies just disapoint me. Edward Scissor Hand's was good, but I didn't like the ending.

Edward Scissorhands is probably my favorite of his followed by Batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd. Beetle Juice, Batman, and Corpse Bride I also enjoy a lot.

Chocolate Factory was blah and I did not like Big Fish much. I hated Pee-Wee, Planet of the Apes, Mars Attacks and Ed Wood (most overrated Tim Burton movie IMO).

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is a fantastic movie. Probably my favorite of the Burton movies? That or Batman, which I still maintain is the best Batman movie ever made. Yes, better than Dark Knight. Beetlejuice was pretty good too.

However that's about the limit of my Burton love. Batman Returns was absolutely atrocious, never saw NBC and Edward Scissorhands was okay but not fantastic. Outside of that I pretty much hate all his other stuff...though to be fair, I never did see Big Fish and I hear it's pretty good, though I don't know if that love comes from Burton fans or not.

I AM looking forward to his Alice in Wonderland movie for what it's worth. I think he might actually be the perfect person for that kind of movie.

Take it from someone who really doesn't care much for Burton's work outside of Big Fish: it's on a whole different level from his other work. If his name wasn't in the credits, I may not have even thought he was responsible for it. XD

That said, I'm also looking forward to Alice in Wonderland, in spite of the Hot Topic craze that Lewis Carroll is being dragged through. Why?

Alan Rickman is the Caterpillar. I think that's all I need to say. XD

Big Fish is amazing. It is very very fairy tale instead of just weird-out. He also uses a lot of color instead of his usual lack of. =)

Big Fish, Edward Scissorhands...though I think Corpse Bride and Beetlejuice are tied for first. But with Tim Burton, I either LOVE or won't watch (i.e. Sweeny Todd, Sleepy Hollow). Corpse Bride is so sweet, but at the same time morbidly hilarious that it just makes me happy every time I watch it. Not a fan at all of Nightmare Before Christmas though, despite it having an amazing soundtrack? The movie is plain boring. ops:

The Nightmare Before Christmas is possibly one of the most overrated films of all time. I watched it a few years ago (wasn't allowed to see it as a child) and I was expecting something GREAT but it was far from it. Is the concept creative? Yes. Is the animation impressive? Yes. Is it an engaging film? No. >_>

Also Nate I fall asleep during Burton's Batman EVERY TIME. But Jack Nicholson was pretty cool.

I liked Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Pee Wee's big adventure (just learned in this thread that hd did that movie, I never knew), and corpse bride. I fell asleep while trying to watch Nightmare Before Christmas twice. I may rent it on iTunes... I can't believe I just said that... That's my only real (legal) option now.

Apparently I need to watch Big Fish... I've been meaning to see that for a while.

My enjoyment of Tim Burton films has somewhat decreased over the years, partly due to what Radical Dreamer was talking about with everything being marketed to the young Hot Topic crowd. I think it might be Danny Elfman's music that draws me to watch more of Burton's movies.

I think Alice in Wonderland looks like it could go either way right now. It looks like it's going to keep the feel of the original books, though.

Actually, it isn't. Not even for its time.

If you're looking for some real feel good claymation that never feels old, I'd advise you to kick back with some of Nick Park's Wallace and Gromit. Nightmare Before Christmas is decrepit and lifeless.

Tim Burton's claymation isn't necessarily your usual claymation, he has his own...thing...don't know too, too much about it. Wallace and Grommit is really fun though...hm.

I'm guessing then I just hit Hot Topic at bad times because I rarely see Burton's stuff in there. Maybe just because I only went in there (unintentionally timed) during the Twilight fad..?

Hot Topic probably doesn't have much NBC stuff anymore because I'm sure a lot of it was a marketing campaign to build up desire for the super ultra deluxe edition of the movie that came out a while back. With that having been out for quite a while, the demand isn't as big anymore (and I can't imagine Hot Topic really stocking any Batman/Pee-Wee stuff anyway, except maybe Dark Knight stuff but the craze for that has died down too).

NBC was never really popular though until recently when it became "cool". I bet half the people wearing all the NBC stuff never even saw the movie. I remember I was like in 2nd grade when it came out and no one liked it. I never even bothered to watch it till I was much older cause... everyone said it was stupid. I really don't know anyone IRL who actually likes it besides myself and even to me it's just alright.
