Dexter's Laboratory

Postby P_Metheny » Thu Jan 20, 2005 3:29 pm

Is there anyone here who was a fan of this cartoon? This show was a fairly popular show back in the day with it's good writing and it's interesting premise of a Boy-genius with a lab "somewhere" in the convenience of his parent's house. Really funny too.

Though it was good right up until it's 3rd season where it lost a lot of it's original crew (and when they changed Dexter's voice.)

I have a lot of Dexter's Lab on tape. I don't like the new voice or stories of show lately now though. My favorite episode is called "Le Bretto" or something like that. It's supposed to be the story of Dexter's birth and growing up. It's completely done in operatic song. It's great!

Yeah, I loved that show! I still do, but not the new episodes...

I used to watch this show all the time. it was great stuff. the new episodes leave much to be desired, I agree.

I always liked all the pop culture references to like, anime, roleplaying, video games, etc.

I totally forgot about that. Their parody of Speed Racer was awesome!

Or how about the last episode of season 2, "Last but Not Beast?" A lot of corny anime references were in it, but it was a great finale that brought out the show's potential. Almost all of the characters were there: Dexter, Dee Dee, the parents, Monkey, Mandark, the Justice Friends. Not to mention the catchy "Go! Dexter's family go!" song that played when the whole family got together to get that monster. :)

I'd say that the Ego Trip feature was the last "good" thing that happened to Dexter's Lab. That's when Genndy Tartakovsky (the show's creator) left to do Samurai Jack and when the show went downhill.

Of course, I would take back that not all of seasons 4 was bad. It was an improvement over the excruciating season 3, but it still wasn't the same as the older episodes.

I saw the parody before I saw the original and whenever I see a re-run of Speedracer on the television I smile and think about it. Haha!

I've not watched a lot of it, but Dexter's Laboratory is one of the few American cartoons that gives me hope for the future of cartoons in America. The rest of the stuff is just garbage. Some of there stuff is just brilliant. The best one that I can remember had no speaking and I don't even know if it had a soundtrack. It was about Dexter changing a light bulb, and I think the only sounds were of the light bulb and Dexter walking.

Every time that I was somewhere that had cable, and I found Dexter's lab I would sit and revel in the wacky world of the kid genius. But I don't remember much of it and I don't know which season I saw. I remember more of Pinky and the Brain. Now there's my favorite cartoon of all time.

Amen to that! When my brother and I don't have anything to do on saturdays we sit down and watch the cartoons that come on and absolutely most of it's garbage. We steer clear of the worst of it, but you could be pretty sure that anyone that watches some of these could drop their IQ a bit.
