Pirates: On Stranger Tides- Better than the last two. But the plot had some serious issues. It had it's moments, but it's not as much of a family film as the first one... as much as the first one could be considered a 'family film'.

Pirates 4

Not half as bad as I had expected. I would place it above the second one but below the third (and definitely below the first, of course). Jack is a better side character than main one.

Ong Bak 1, 2, and 3

Good action films, generally. The first was a good introduction with plenty of fights and an actual plot. The second was less plot and more fighting, decide for yourself it that is a good thing. The third one went on this weird spiritual theme and wasn't that great.

The Good, The Bad, and The Weird

This is the first Eastern Western that I have seen so I cant compare it with any other films of the genre. I can say, however, that it embodies typical Asian film traits, namely style over substance. While I may not have ever understood the plot it was sure an entertaining movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides; not as quote-able as the 1st movie but funnier/better than the 2nd and 3rd, at least as far as I remember, I haven't seen them in a long time.

I thought the chemistry between Jack Sparrow and Angelica was well done. The plot lines where everyone is hiding their own agendas was much better handled than in the 3rd movie. Cudos to the actor and actress of the priest and mermaid (whose names I don't remember despite it being an apparent plot point or something) because they did do their best with some pretty terribly script. I am hoping that it will be revealed that [spoiler]she ate him in the end.

Otherwise they should not show up in the inevitable 5th movie please.[/spoiler]
I was quite surprised that some of the action sequences seemed to be very heavily inspired by scenes from the first movie.

I saw I am Number Four recently, of course I first wanted to see it because of Alex Pettyfer's eye-candiness but after the movie I was even more "in love" with this young man because of how great an actor he is. Vulnerablity = believability for him, especially for his role as an alien trying to live a normal life of an hunky yet outcasted teen on Earth. 4 1/2 thumbs up!

I also recently saw Departures, a Japanese movie about the art of bidding your loved one fare-well when they've passed away. He's more than just an make-up artist for the dead, he dresses them with love and care and as much respect as a person can have. The trials that the main char had to go through were so profound and touching - it made me cry! 5 thumbs up!

Pirates 3: meh....
Hangover 2: O_O Watched it TWICE! Highly inappropriate, but hilarious.
Zombieland: seen multiple times, but still love it
Pretty in Pink: John Hughes....need I say more? Amazing.

Just watched Star Wars IV from CBS/FOX VHS IV-VI Box Set, ORIGINAL CUT.

(Had to buy a new copy of that set after we accidentally garage-saled our old one. Wasn't much, maybe $15+a little S/H. Tapes weren't even opened yet. Yes, yes, sacrilege, I know. BUT... I'm not a collector. If I buy a movie, I INTEND to watch it. And if Lucas had just given us the original cut on DVD, I wouldn't have had to open them at all... oh well...)

It was great to watch it the way I always remembered it, not having to worry about those added scenes/special effects.

Also, saw Pirates 4 Saturday night. In my opinion, that movie took itself TOO seriously (even though it had its moments). Too much of a shift in directing style.

The Hangover - lolz! Wow. I totally was wary about watching this, but my friend said it was good and I generally trust her taste. It was fun!

Actually, you can get the original Star Wars movies on DVD, but they're on bonus discs packaged with the "Limited Edition" releases. They're apparently mastered from Laserdiscs, but it's still probably higher quality than VHS tapes. (That being said, I own the original versions on VHS as well as the Limited Edition DVDs.)

Oh, uh, I watched Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet again today just for kicks. It's...uh...well, I think that overall Moulin Rouge was a better film than this, but R+J does have its moments.

My brother, my husband, and myself have been watching through the 3 "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies and on Friday we're going to go see it at the movie theater. I haven't seen the first one in ages so it was good to see them before I watch the new one.

Like Adorima, I just watched I Am Number Four. Not a great movie, I thought, but at least an entertaining one. I'd be interested to rent the inevitable sequel.

Briefly back to the new Pirates, I agree with Atria that it doesn't seem to be all that family-oriented anymore. There was surprisingly more sexual innuendo than I was comfortable with. After a while it just got awkward.

Watched the indie horror film The signal. Holy crap go out and see it now if you can stand some gore, it was seriously awesome.

Les Choristes (The Chorus), a French movie about a man who goes to a harsh boys' orphanage and teaches them to sing. It's a very uplifting story, I think, showing you just how much music can impact people's lives. And the singing! :angel:

Jean-Baptiste Maunier, the main solo singer, has the voice of an angel.

I got to see X-Men: First Class today. I enjoyed it. Thankfully I was able to catch on easily, having been a while since I have seen the actual movies (I don't think I ever got to see the last one...I don't remember.)

I came out of the theater listening to a group talk about "how similar Azazel is to Nightcrawler." ....[SIZE="1"]Um[/SIZE]....

Just got back from seeing X-Men First Class. I even liked the first three X-Men movies and I still left the theater saying "Yeah! That's the X-Men movie I wanted!"

Adorima, maybe Alex Pettyfer is dreamy (I wouldn't know, I'm a guy) and he seems to have an honesty to him that many young actors lack nowadays but the last thing I would call him is a "great actor".

I just finished watching The Phantom of the Opera. Despite being a silent movie, it was actually very good.

I also watched Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus, which is probably the worst action movie I have ever seen, definitly one of those "so bad, it's good" movies.

1776 is a pretty awesome movie. I watch it every July 4th.

Watched Black Swan last night. Um. This film is rated R for a fricking reason. I do not recommend this movie if you are sensitive to:

- seeing bad things happen to fingers, toes, and nails
- sex scenes which are also psychologically disturbing, some of which are girl-on-girl
- weird things sprouting out of skin
- psychological abuse

It's really a very good film, but...holy crap. Everything about it is creepy. And I mean everything. Even the camerawork is unsettling. Very well-acted and well-made, but...I think I need to wait a while before seeing it again. It is more like a psychological horror than a dance movie, and it's definitely not a "chick flick", so don't watch it expecting lots of romance and pretty dancing. Sure, there's dancing in it, but what it's really about is witnessing the main character's mental breakdown.

The White Countess - I was browsing my local video store, and the cover of this movie told me everything I needed to know: Ralph Fiennes and Hiroyuki Sanada. In a period piece.

I couldn't read the cover, so I just went with it, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's set in pre-WWII Shanghai, right before the Japanese invasion. I won't go into too many details with the characters, because part of what made that movie so delightful was that I went into it completely in the dark about who these people were.

It was a strange movie, which on one occasion randomly veered off into the artsy, almost like it was a completely different movie. Except for that one big-lipped alligator moment, it was a really great movie. It was subtle, with great characterization. At points where other movies could be (and have been) heavy-handed, it remained focused and subtle. I highly recommend it, especially if you're looking for something that is easy on objectionable content. In fact, it was INCREDIBLY restrained, especially considering its subject matter (it somehow very delicately and respectfully handles both prostitution and the Japanese invasion of Asia, two very intense and brutal topics).

EDIT: Oh, and Lee Pace was in it too, but his part was rather minor.

The Public Enemy 1931- This was a fantastic gangster movie. I had no idea what I was getting into when it started, and it was a complete, and pleasant, surprise. Watch it if you enjoy old movies or gangster movies.

Waitress, starring Kari Russell and Nathan Fillion. I really liked it. Morally it's not a great movie and not a terrible movie. It was interesting, well-written, well-acted, and overall very entertaining. It really felt like a movie that's just about people and the decisions they make, without much commentary on whether those decisions are good or bad. I do think it comes out kind of condemning adultery without getting preachy about it, which I really liked about it. Recommended if you don't mind a lot of non-explicit sexual content.

Also, Andy Griffith was in it playing the most awesome old guy ever. Worth it just for him. ^_^ I seriously wanted to give him a hug the whole time he was on the screen. You cannot go wrong with Andy Griffith.
