I'm going to celebrate my birthday by going to see Return of The King, unless something unforeseen comes up.

December 17th, booyah! ^-^

No way!!! Me too! That's the only reason my parents are letting me go during finals!

UC, I think you are meaning Eowyn, and she is not Gondorian, she is Rohan. Did you see The Two Towers or just forgot?

And in respects to more elf warrioresses (or something or other), I believe that the war was mostly fought by man (both genders of course) and forces of Mordor. For all you ladies, the only elf action is Legolas. Of course with all the audible sighs I've heard, I do not believe that is a bad thing if you are of female persuasion at least.

EDIT: Yeesh, you don't have to scream it. I fixed it.

For anyone who is confused by that train of events: I posted something in which I forgot Eowyn's name, and inaccurately mislabeled her as being from Gondor. While wiping a troll's incessant posting from our boards (in another window), I accidently deleted it. My apologies.

To Lochaber's Axe: I saw the Two Towers, but it's been years since I read the books. And extremely little of my mind is devoted to memorizing the races of men in Lord of the Rings.

Just got in from it too :) Totally worth the 0 minute line at the 11:20pm showing. :-D Sorry, I don't see the point in waiting hours for a movie. Go the day after the first showing, buy the tickets an hour early; no line. Or just buy the tickets online days in advance.

In any case, good ending to the story. I've never read the books, so I can't compare.

I won't spoil anything, but two movies I immediately thought of in certain scenes: Wizard of Oz, and Never Ending Story (more of a joke than anything else)

I have a question for all of you who have seen it: is Saruman completely removed from the story?

when i went to buy the tickets at 4 yesterday there were 150 open, when we got there at 7, we had the front row of the theater

but no matter

IT ROCKED

oh and uc
yes he is not in the movie
That's really cheap IMO that we didn't get to see a showdown between Gandalf and Saruman. I think I may have to read the book just for that XD

Have you guys seen the foxtrot comics from the last week relating to LotR? You can read them at http://www.ucomics.com/foxtrot

To save you some time... Saruman and Gandalf don't ever really fight in the books. It's more of an authority issue. But I'd still suggest reading their final confrontation, which is cool (chapter titled "The Voice of Saruman).

I was hoping to
a) see the voice of Saruman done on the big screen
b) see Gandalf and Saruman fight (they did the last time...)

But ah well. There's always the extended version.

I went to the 10:50 AM showing today (which was pretty empty btw).

...

OH MAN IT WAS SOOOO GOOOOD.

Mmyep.

I liked the part where Sam said something like
"I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you"
to Frodo. ; __ ; It really touched me for some reason. And some parts were so dramatic and big and emotional that I wanted to bawl.

So yeah. It was a good time. Although after a while my butt started to hurt. ^^;

Hehe, yeah I went back and watched the Two Towers last night. So now I finally know the disgusting details on the undead water people in the swamp scene, where I closed my eyes the first time, and also now I finally understand what went on at the end, since last time I was so bored and sleepy I wasn't paying attention

To ShiHi:
My favorite part was
when Pippin was singing in Gondor to the stewart. He was always my favorite hobbit (2nd fav. character) and he looked soooo good in that uniform!
and my LEAST favorite part was...well, let's put it this way:
I'm a more than mild arachnaphobic. Shelob = one freaked out Ash
The Pip, Meri, and Sam really came into their own in this movie and Eowyn was awesome! All I can say without spoiling it is see it! It was great and it is definitley worth the time! I am on to reading the books now.....wish me luck! Those are long books but I'm sure worth the time as well!

I've seen in now. If you've been reading this thread, you know what I wanted to see that wasn't there.

I'm surprised that Shelob was actually about the right size. I expected her to be way too big.

Meanwhile, some favorite parts.
When Pippin is singing to Denator, who's eating, while the others are riding on a fool's errand. The entire scene had a surreal, strange feel to it. Very well done. It was also stylish that they cut out just after the orcs loose their arrows.

He gets some cool stuff in this movie. From the beginning Jackson wanted to make him a subtle wizard, but Gandalf did get one good special effect when he drove away 3 of the Nazgul. Also, we have some nice quarterstaff action for a while.

While it wasn't true to the books, and was a bit odd, I did find one moment mildly funny. When Denator is yelling "Abandon your posts!" and he turns around, to be promptly bonked by Gandalf. The great White Wizard just thumps the guy with his staff.
And I can say this without spoiling anything: oliphants!
