I groan every time I see a team run the Option. I think the defense can sniff that one out kids, or are you expecting them to be surprised when the whole offense moves right and then suddenly a little farther to the right?
Roy Mustang (post: 1266635) wrote:Uh, the option use to be one of the hardest offense to stop. Sure, your not going to beat some of the better defenses in the SEC, Big-10 and PAC-10 with it, but it still can work, just ask Air Force and Navy, but the flex-bone is a lot better then the old option which Air Force and Navy does use.
If you look at the spread, its a mix of the option with a passing game. Georgia Tech has done better this year with Paul Jonhson's option playbook and will be even better, when he gets the kind of players that he looking for.

Peanut wrote:The probablem with the option (both spread and non-spread) is if you don't have the right players (mainly a running quarterback), your going to have problems. Look at Michigan...
termyt wrote:OK, that was a little over-harsh, but while the option may be fine in the MAC or WAC, it has no business being called half a dozen times in a game between OSU and Penn State.
ESPN Insider wrote:ESPN Recruting insider reported that Tajh Boyd has commited to Tennesse
ESPNU 150 prospect Tajh Boyd of Phoebus (Hampton, Va.), rated No. 10 among Class of 2009 quarterbacks, has announced his commitment to Tennessee.
Boyd, who had committed to West Virginia in March, but changed his mind last month, said that he didn't feel comfortable with the Mountaineers' offensive philosophy.
He spoke with the Daily Press after making his decision Saturday night, "I had planned on dragging out the process a little longer, but I wanted to make a decision and then focus on the rest of the season and states. I think this will be the best place for me."
Boyd also commented on the rumors regarding Phil Fulmer's job status, "I know people are talking about that, but when I spoke with Coach Fulmer and their athletic director (Mike Hamilton), they told me they didn't think anything was going to happen. Plus, I have to like the school in general. And I love the school."
He made the announcement following Phoebus' 77-0 destruction of Denbigh (Newport News, Va.). Boyd completed five of nine passes or 121 yards before re-injuring his knee. However, Boyd was not limping after the game.
Among Boyd's other offers were Boston College, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Oregon, Penn State and South Florida. He passed for 2,059 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior.

Peanut wrote:while we are still sort of on the topic of Fulmer, I have some rather interesting news from the recruiting trail that pertains to both Tennessee and WVU...
From the sound of this article, Fulmer is still going to be around next year...and Boyd has not really watched the Tennesse offense (seriously...aren't you guys doing much worse then us on that side of the ball? Also, note that Boyd is listed as a running quarterback. Though he is a very accurate passer as well...so again...what?)

National Football Post wrote:Clemson Interested In Fulmer?
Sources close to the National Football Post have informed us that Clemson University may be interested in hiring current Tennessee Volunteers head coach Philip Fulmer to fill the vacancy left by Tommy Bowden. Fulmer will not be back at Tennessee next season.
In addition to Fulmer, we are hearing that current Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville may become a candidate for the Clemson job as well.

Peanut wrote:About the Tennessee coaching search...Brian Kelly...get him...while any of those candidates would be good replacememnts, I don't think Mike Leach is going to be drawn away from Texas Tech after this year and personally I think Kelly would do a better job the Kiffin (of course losing Brian Kelly would hurt the Big East majorly...but whatever...he's a good coach and probably wouldn't of stuck around much longer anyway).
