CAA Fantasy Football League

Postby termyt » Tue Aug 16, 2005 11:00 am

If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to set up a Fantasy Football league on Yahoo for the enjoyment of the membership here.

It's free to play and we'd probably do an automated draft to make it simple.

Anyone interested?

Actaully I'm going to a preseason game against the Browns this saturday! Anyways yes I'll join. But I think we will need more people.

We would need at least four, but more would be better.

You're grandmother is a fantasy footballer? Weird, but cool.

I haven't seen Edwards play much - he just finally came to camp late last week. Anyway, the Browns looked really bad against the Giants last week.

Good thing I'm a Steelers fan. ;)

ME! The past few days I've been reading a fantasy football magazine learning how it's played. It looks kind of fun. So if y'all need another player, count me in. I would love to give it a try.

Join the League!!

Postby termyt » Wed Aug 17, 2005 11:58 am

OK, since we have at least four, I'll go ahead and set up the league. I'll post here with details when I've got it done.

In the meantime, if you don't already have one, you will need a yahoo ID to play. They're free, you just need to sign up for one.

Edit: OK, the league is set up. Here's what to do:

First: The league is open to any member of CAA who wants to play regardless of experience. If you never played before, then this is your chance to join a league and learn how to play in a low pressure situation. If you don't think you can do it - you're wrong. Feel free to PM me for tips on how to play / what to do.

Second: You need a Yahoo ID to play. They're free, so sign up for one!

Third: Click here:
http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/register/joinleague and choose "Join a Cutom League"

The League ID is 456005
The Password is ashleysballers

Fourth: follow the steps to create your team.

The league is set to allow up to 12 teams. If you try to join and the it says the league is full, post here or PM me and I'll expand the league. (Wishful thinking)

Come on and join us!

I'm heading to work now, but when I get off a bit later, I'll go and sign up for the league.

Right now, we have three teams registered. Bug your CAA friends to join the league!

Before the draft can start, there must be an even number of teams. Also, I want to give as much time as possible for people to join. I'll start the league and trigger the draft on August 31. The draft will happen within 72 hours, so your teams should be ready to go by the weekend. Once the draft is completed, you can do trades and pick up players off of waivers.

All transactions must be complete and your starting rosters set before the first game of the season starts on September 8. THAT'S A THURSDAY NOT A SUNDAY!!!

It takes two days for a trade to clear, so make sure that both teams involved with the trade have accepted it more than two days before each week's games or the trade will not take affect until the following week.

Once you propose a trade and the other team has accepted it, the other owners have two days to reject the trade. If a majority of owners reject the trade, it will not go through. (The only legitimate reason to reject a trade is to stop occlusion. Occlusion happens when one player trades a really good player for a really bad one, which upsets the balance of power in the league.)

I don't really understand this, (nor do I know about football), so I'm slightly curious about how it works. But I won't be joining, sadly.

The beautiful thing about fantasy football is all you do is pick your team, and all the scoring is done for you automatically.
You pick a QB, running back, recievers, tight ends, a defense (a certain team) and a kicker. Perhaps a few others I'm not thinking of.

That's how I think it's done.

*pokes her shoulder* Peer pressure, peer pressure, peer pressure (repeat).

Here are the roster positions for the teams:
Each week you will need to start
1 Quarterback
2 Running backs
2 Wide receivers
1 Tight end / WR (can be either a TE or a WR)
1 RB / WR (can be either an RB or a WR)
1 Kicker
5 Defensive players. I know this isn't the most common way to do it, but I like it so much better, so let's give it a try. You can start any five defensive players regardless of position - line, ends, line backers, or defensive backs.

There are also 8 bench positions for reserves.

The rosters and the scoring rules can be viewed on the league page and, as far as I am concerned, everything is open to debate. If you don't like a rule, let m know and we can discuss it.

The thing is, I just don't know about football, fantasy or otherwise.

Best of luck to you guys, though!

Wow. What a bummer.

A live draft would be cool, but that's really daunting to new players, plus kind of hard to administer. Perhaps in a future season.

I may join up (leaning toward it but haven't decided for certain).

Any chance of getting a Pick 'Em game started, though? I would definitely join for that.

We'll be doing an auto-draft. You can configure your draft preferences (i.e. rank which players you think are the best) any time. I'll set the draft to go on the 31st to make sure we have our temas by the weekend.

You'll then have until Thursday to get any trades, drops, and adds done as well as your starting lineups in the system before the first game.

I can set up a pick 'em league, too. I've been in pick'em leagues before and they're a lot of fun. Any interest? Perhaps I should start a new thread so as not to get the two confused.

We have six teams registered.

I'd really like to get at least eight into the league. I know I can talk one CAA'er into joining, but I've been "saving" him in case we ended up with an odd number. So, if you are interested or know some one who is - please join by tomorrow at the latest. Don't worry about making an odd number of teams. It won't be a problem.

I will close the league no later than Friday and begin the draft.
