What do you think of the new comic-turn-movie feature, and its title and religious factors? The official site is http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/hellboy/site/index_flash.html

I plan on catching this in theaters. Basic idea....(this is from memory of the comics) The Nazis open the gates of hell at the end of WW2...the Americans rush in...kill the Nazis and close the gate...but not before the devils son sneaks through...time passes, and the kid grows up into a demon devil thing...but helps mankind...I think...Someone can correct me if I am in left field.

So a non-funny version of Little Nicky (or, rather, Little Nicky is a funny parody of this?)

Saw the trailer for it tonight (didn't have my headphones on, only saw the visuals)... looked interesting (literal reaction, "cool") thought it definately isn't a "Biblical" movie ;)

I know Suncoast (correct me if I'm wrong here Shatterheart) was giving away preview dvds for it when you bought anything in the store. It looked rather interesting (reminded me a bit of the Xmen movie really) and I'll probably try to catch it sometime, either in theaters or on dvd.

geeze.... can't anyone just enjoy these types of movies for what they are? Gosh.... League wasn't a bad movie.... not an award winner, and certainly isn't the greatest film, but it's still a good movies, and was fun (not boring like most of The Hulk was).

My plan is to see it Wed, or Thurs (before 5-6pm) after it's release, looks like it'll be a decent fun film.

I enjoyed The League, it was fairly entertaining and kept my attention. When I first saw the trailer for Hellboy I thought it looked pretty stupid, but after finding out more about it, it dosn't look so bad. I'll probably see it!

Movie doesn't look good imo. Special effects good, yes. But FX don't make a movie. Look at Final Fantasy Spirits Within...that was HORRIBLE, but had great graphics. It takes good story and characters to make a good film.

And yeah, Hellboy himself does look goofy.

What I'm interested to know is what the people who complain about good demons/devils in anime think about this film. There was a thread a while back with people saying it's horrible that there are demons who fight for good and whatnot. So what do they think about THIS movie and it's plot?

Do we really need to get into one of THOSE discussions? Such things will probably turn into debates that serve no real purpose.

How dare you say LXG was very dumb! It wasn't the best movie ever but it wasn't the worst either!

I just came back and seen Hellboy. I thought it was a very good super-hero film, very up-to-par with 'Spiderman', and 'The Hulk'. But IMO I like Hellboy even better then LoEG. Its a great film, christanity moments towards the end of film too. Check it out!!

The reviews are in and it's getting better ones than Underworld did. Yahoo's Movie page reflects thusly:

http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf=info&id=1808404362&intl=us

Average critic review is B- (Ebert even gave it an A-, way to go Ebert!)
Average user review is B

Underworld (as I checked the other day) was something like C+ for critic and A- for user.

I'll most likely go on Wednesday or Thursday for an afternoon showing (maybe before the kiddies get out of school, hmm... wonder what the first showing is?)

Looks good, though my local paper didn't care for it that much (though it had some good points, but they thought a few things that where done they could have done more of, and that the movie overall should have been a bit shorter, but what do they know :D )

I thought it was a pretty interesting movie. It was better than I thought it'd be, that's for sure.

I thought it was pretty decent, certainly better than Underworld or LXG.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I liked it a lot. And it even inspired my care group leader to writing a little devotional about "the choices we make". There are some "that is SO anime..." moments, but I like that about it. It was cool but I really couldn't see the "gods" as gods--they were at best gastropod aliens.

Heh, it even inspired more stuff for me to put in Paladin... ;)

Saw it Tuesday night, loved it. It was about as good as I figured it would be...I felt it was head and shoulders above Hulk, and to me was even with Daredevil, Underworld, X-men, and spiderman. The only comic movie I figure will do better (I know Underworld is not a comic) is Punisher...I have waited a long time for a good Punisher movie....and have very high hopes for it. However back to the topic at hand...I thought Hellboy was very well done...not bad for content either...though I think it was pg-13. It is worth seeing in theaters thats for sure.
