CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

Whoa, guys, Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker have written a book together that is scheduled to be released into stores in April. Dekker + Peretti= BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN!! I mean, seriously, Ted and Frank are my two FAVORITE Christian fictional authors, because their writing is so outside the box. But the two of them combined? All I can say is: YUS!!!

The title of the book is "House." It's supposedly going to be like a supernatural horror story that puts a new spin on the old haunted house scenario. I can't wait! So, uh, just thought I'd let y'all know!

Sounds interesting. If it's half as good as This Present Darkness, I'll get it in a second.

I may have to pursue that title, though supernatural horror isn't a genre I particularly enjoy. Ted Dekker is a familiar name to me, but I don't believe I have read any of his writing.

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!! I have heard about it and I can't wait to read it!! Those two are my favorite authors!!!!

Oh, wow, why didn't I hear about this until now? Where have I been?

I just hope Peretti handled the beginning. They're both great writers, but Peretti is definitely superior, if nothing else due to his ability to actually get a story started early on and get you hooked very quickly. Dekker takes WAY too long. It takes me about a month to get past the first 100 pages in any of his books, simply because he's so boring for those few chapters.

Regardless, I can't wait.

I don't think Ted Dekker is boring in the first few chapters, but certainly Frank Peretti gets into it quicker. Both have their strengths and weakness. Three by Ted Dekker drew me in straight away, but his Black, Red and White books took a little more time.

I know I'm switching subjects a little but. Frank Pertti has made the visitation into a movie and it came out on video feb, 28 hehe haven't seen it though... ok now back to books is there a place where i can find a synopsis of it?

Yes, Frank Peretti's: The Visitation is coming to dvd (but thanks for the exact date - mind you it will be a lot later coming to Australia). I can't wait for it. And Ted Dekker's: Thr3e (the movie).


Here's a short sypnosis I found (of House):
From the minds of multi-million selling suspense authors Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker comes House--an epic supernatural thriller that gives a new meaning to the phrase "haunted house." In rural Alabama, two couples find themselves in a fight for survival. Running from a maniac bent on killing them, they flee deep into the woods and seek refuge in a house. They soon realize the killer has purposely lured them to this house and that they are now trapped. As they huddle around an old fireplace, a tin can falls through the chimney. Scrawled on its side is a message from the killer, establishing his House Rules. The rules call for their deaths unless they kill at least one of the four.

They have less than 12 hours to find a way to survive. At sunrise the game is over and everyone dies if the killer's demands aren't met. What they quickly learn is that the only way out . . . is in. But going further into this house--where unknown challenges await them--is equally deadly.

Ooh. Ooh. Ooh. Sounds good. I hate scary movies, but I'll read scary books left and right, especially if they're by favorite authors.

I'm a huge Peretti fan, but I haven't read any Dekker stuff yet. The library is getting a visit before I head home for spring break, as well as the local Christian store to see if they have the Visitation DVD in stock.

Yeah, I totally agree-- I sat down with Thr3e at the Christian bookstore, and had to buy it because I was hooked after like ten pages. Blink had a good beginning too. But Black. . . that one took a while getting in to. I still haven't read the other two that come after it.

And Showdown was good. It was very controversial in a lot of Christian circles because of the depiction of sin in the story, but I say, sin is gross, let's show it that way (it kind of reminded me of the Oath in that sense-- both books crossed the line that a lot of Christian authors wouldn't even look at when it comes to content.) But I always think it's worth is when it leads up to the redemptive message at the end. Which is why I'm so excited about Dekker and Perretti working together! Neither are afraid to do crazy things that no one else would do!

True Yumie! They are honest and heart-felt in their writings and don't sugarcoat the issues. There's a lot more realism there then in the majority of Christian fiction, not to mention they also spin a great yarn!

I saw the Visitation movie at my youth group. It was excellent! I think it was done better than Hangman's Curse!! There are parts that are different from the book, but I think they changed it for time's sake. I could go on. I really like it!

Is it as graphic as the book. The book is quite dark in themes. But it works well.

Not in the blood sense. there's a lot of demonic elements that were in the book.

What all does Dekker write? I am a huge fan of Peretti, but I have never heard of Dekker.

He wrote these books. Ted Dekker is a master suspense writer and has an honesty that view Christian writers impart.

No problems. I forgot to mention that not all his books are suspense thrillers. Some are non-fiction, historical fiction and fantasy.

I'm definately going to check out House sometime soon. I'm still reading Monster be Peretti right now.

I like Dekker better than Perreti because of his:

Themes
Plot
Genre
Twists
Writing Style

But putting them together is not a bad idea. Especialy since it is still a Dekker's Theme, plot, and genre.

If you don't know much about Dekker I recomend his newer books over his old ones. Although I have never read his old ones I hear his newer ones are better. I'm talking about:

Black
Red
White
Showdown
House

I think we may see Dekker surpass Perreti in fame eventually because Perreti seems to be not doing anything right now, while Dekker has about 8 future books allready planned out. And while Perreti books seem to be getting more boring to me Dekker books are getting better I think. If I where to recomend Perreti books to you (something I don't really have to do since you hopefuly have heard of him) I would recomend his older books over his new ones. Now what does that tell you?

Anyways I can't wait for House and the movie version of it. Although hpefully the movie isn't like SAW.

Actually even though I like Ted Dekker better I think that he has a weaker writing style. Though his books are more involving (in my opinion) his actual style is a bit worse.

Pent you should check out Dekker's older book called "When Heaven Weeps." It easily beats the Circle Trilogy in goodness. Well at least I think so.

I think either Peretti or Dekker needs to co author a book with Sigmund Brouwer. That would have to be the coolest book ever...Especially if it was Dekker and Brouwer.

Frank Peretti broke the mold for Christian fiction.
Dekker definetly has more unusual plots, but Peretti has the beater writing style. I agree. Ted Dekker's stuff is faster paced, but Peretti is better at dialogue (I think).

Yes you are right. I kind of meant writing style in that I enjoy the way Ted writes his books more then the way Frank writes his books. But I see what you mean. Frank is more of a "mature" writer.

Too many cooks spoil the broth. Well, that's not always the case, but I'm wary of joint authorships.

It will be interesting to note the difference between the first and second half of this book, I have heard Perreti wrote basicly the first half while Ted wrote the second half.
