I miss a Chat...

Postby ThaKladd » Fri Jan 16, 2004 3:17 am

Hi..

This is a nice site to discuss anime/manga with a christian viewpoint. You do a Great work!

but..

Is it possible to make a chat? I thik it's easier to talk to eachother, og get to know eachother by chatting live, instead of discussing in a forum...

Its Just a Idea!

Hmmm, might it be more prominent if you added another button to the header bar, Straylight?

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

Yes, please do that. It might motivate me to check it out on occasion.

Personally, I enjoy the forum aspect far more, in that there is time to proof read what you have posted, as well as give careful consideration for what you will be typing. Also, it does not require more than one individual to be online at hte same time. However, chatting has the advantage of speed, which can be beneficial under certain circumstances.

It is basically a MUD client, except more like a chat. I'm fine with it, though there has to be a way to turn off automated messages.

Well, I think I've found something that might make people happier.

http://www.moo.ca/moozilla/

This is a plug-in for Mozilla *only* that allows you to access MUDs. However, if the MUD supports it, the MUD can send you HTML that allows you to click on links, show images, do colours, whatever.

I think this is a great idea to support, and it works on Macintosh, Windows and Linux (or compile your own for your own favourite operating system).

However, the overhaul for the mud would be moderately complex. Not impossible, but complex, so I want to hear if people would consider this helpful before I even embark on it. It's possible, but the chat is so underutilized that I want some commitment/feedback from people before I spend a lot of time on it.

I think it would be a nice addition, but I would also feel badly about you spending time on it, and then no one uses it. I'm not sure if that really counts as feedback or not.

I just installed the client. It looks good. There's really no need for the local echo with this one. The other features sound pretty cool. So you've got my vote for the overhaul. :thumb:

edit: I almost forgot to say this. The client will not work in Firefox. I already tried it (unless it's working for someone else). The web page says that it will work in Firebird though; I haven't tested it in that one.

It definitely doesn't work in Camino, alas, so not all Mozilla-based browsers are like the others (I had to use real Mozilla). I suppose I should try it in Netscape, too.

Also, you have to open the moozilla client from the commandline if you're using Firebird with the flag -moo. There are two ways you can do this:
1)Going into DOS, change to the directory where MozillaFirebird.exe is located if you need to, and typing 'mozill~1 -moo'.
For *NIX systems, I think it would be user/bin/mozillafirebird -moo.

2)If you're using Windows you can have an alias to the program and be able to do the same thing by going to start>run... and typing in 'mozillafirebird -moo'.

I'm kinda starting to doubt doing the overhaul right now. Since not all Mozilla browsers can use this easily or even at all. I would wait for them to release the independent client that was mentioned on their page or atleast some news on an update for some of the other browsers.

Well, the change wouldn't crowd out normal users. There would be a flag you would set that would say you're using MOOzilla, or perhaps the MUD could autodetect (there might even be a facility for this). People on Telnet or on the (cough) regular Java client would still see things in ANSI colour or even regular old "dumb" terminal mode.
