The Girl Can Fly -- stick figure webcomic

I've written and drawn a stick figure graphic novel called "The Girl Can Fly", which I have posted on ComicSpace.net.

"The Girl Can Fly" is five years old. I wrote and drew it for my wife, and it was the first lengthy comic book story I ever completed (at nearly 70 pages).

http://web.mac.com/benavery/iWeb/The%20Girl%20Can%20Fly/Intro.html

I have improved as a writer since I did this project, although I have not improved as an artist!

Anyway, check it out. I still like this story and feel that it has a certain charm to it. Ever Sunday, the next 5-7 pages will be uploaded to ComicSpace.com.

Hope you enjoy it! Or at least ate mildly entertained!

The next set of nine pages has been posted, bringing it up to 22 pages -- one third of the way to the finish!

The drawings are very simple but the story is sweet and inspiring. You also seem to have a good grasp of cropping pictures and choosing the right 'camera' angles, even with a comic as simple in detail as this.

I enjoyed it. There's something very freeing about the idea of flying.
Good work.

Please upload the rest soon.

There will be another upload on Sunday.

One of the things I struggled with was posting it all at once or over time. In the end I chose over time because . . . well, to be honest, I don't know why. The whole thing was completed six or seven years ago. (Time really does fly.)

Would it be better to upload the whole thing all at once? Instead of the way it is, a small section every Sunday?

Thanks for the kind words. I'm a writer, not an artist, but I do know that every time I take on a project like this or the more recent 24-Hour-Comic day things, I gain new appreciation for artists and, I think, learn to think more like an artist . . . which helps me to write FOR an artist. (I hope.)

I guess I'm the sort of person that would like to read it all in one slab, but then I also like being kept in suspense.
It's your comic. You decide...

From here, things become . . . different.

I HOPE that the story goes in some unexpected directions.

So in other words . . .

You like both ways? :)

I agree with you on both, and that's what made my decision difficult. In the end, I chose to do it like this because at any time I can chose to upload the whole thing, but I can't UNload it if I chose to change my mind the opposite direction.

Also, it helped that the story is done. There is an ending, it will come, and whil you'll be kept in suspense, it won't be like having to wait a year and a half for the next season of BSG or LOST. :)

AAAAAAAAAAH! I need more! MORE!

I TOTALLY wasn't expecting that! I completely forgot about that thing!

I'm not saying what it was for those who haven't started reading this yet!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

At this point I'm very happy at the fact that you've already finished this comic.

...And? What happens?

Sorry about taking so long to reply. Yes, I like it both ways, suspenseful and released occasionally, and released all at once.
The drawings are nothing to write home about but the fact that you have some of us in suspense as to what's going to happen speaks volumes.

I'm loving this comic. The story is very interesting, and the drawings are charming and add to the whole "atmosphere" of the story. Keep up the great work!

Some of the writing was shaking at times but it was a good story.
Thanks for posting it.
Never knew a feather could hold so much power! (lol)

Well, like I said, it was my first long form graphic novel. In a way, this is the one that started it all for me. Of course, for my work now I get REAL artists to draw instead of doing the stick figure thing. I don't think my publishers would like stick figures.

Yeah, I know the writing was "shaking" at times. I resisted the urge to rewrite anything -- this is an artifact of the past for me (from about seven years ago), and I chose not to be George Lucas and redo anything.

Thanks for the kind words,

~ Ben
