Uploading music?

Postby Saint Kevin » Sat Feb 14, 2004 12:56 pm

I recently tried to upload a music piece that I was working on (midi format) and couldn't. Is there a reason why midi, mp3, wav, etc. file formats are restricted? Do you think there will be any changing this policy any time soon?
Thanks.

Frankly MIDIs on web pages are ok, but after a while they can be annoying if you don't have control over the applet that plays them (i.e. a STOP button).

WAV and MP3 files are too large... some of us are still on Dialup, the only MP3s I download are from places like OCRemix, and even then they take forever (so I try to make sure they're worth downloading ahead of time).

Just because it would take a minute for you to download doesn't prevent you from NOT clicking on the 'download attachment' button :thumb:

Of course, we don't really want to clutter up CAA's server space too much either..

I suppose. The point is moot now anyway since the college revoked my computer lab account so I can't record my midis anymore. I didn't do anything wrong to get my account revoked, but I am no longer in a pooled class with my sister college, so I don't have access to their mondo cool music/piano/computer lab anymore. I agree with madphil, music is always annoying if you can't stop it. I prefer when they have the option for you to START the music in the first place, not just to stop it after it has already started playing. The zip file thing is a pretty good idea, I should've thought of that. Thanks anyway fellas.
