Fullmetal Alchemist volumes 9 - 13. The library recently ordered in this batch so I've gotten to read them pretty much back-to-back. I'm really enjoying the serious. While the series is often serious and grim/sad at times, there are some funny running puns too. I think the manga-ka has balanced the two well.

I second this praise. The comedic and serious elements of the series are very well balanced in the Manga, much more so than in the Anime adaption.

Just finished Sakura Taisen Volume 4.

Today, I picked up:

Mushishi Volume 1, which I had already read most of in scanlation. When someone is good enough to give me the opportunity to legally buy stuff I've already read in scanlation, I generally do so. Then, I enjoy it a second time.

'In the Starlight' (Volume 1.) This is a Manhua (I think that's the right spelling). Interesting stuff. Very old-fashioned artwork (actually, even though it's just arrived in this country, I think this is a good twenty years old) reminiscent of early Takuhashi, and a nice storyline, although a little jumbled here and there. I think I'll be investing in Volume 2.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Maokun: Ninjas or Pirates? (Vikings are not a valid answer, sorry)

EricTheFred: Vikings are always a valid answer.

Team Medical Dragon to Volume 5

My previous opinion has continued to hold, so far. As the series moves from more episodic story arcs to the thesis-related operation I have enjoyed it more and I hope to continue to see significant development in the plot.

Blade of Immortal volumes 9-14.

i've progressed quite far into the series now and the plot never ceases to amaze me with its unpredictability. i love all the characters, and the artwork is beautiful.

I know the feeling. I just finished Sakura Taisen Vol. 5, so now I'm drumming my fingers waiting for publication of the next volumes of:

Bleach,
xxxHOLIC,
Oh My Goddess,
Tsubasa,
Yotsubato, (no cliffhanger in this case, but she's like the daughter I never had, and I miss her!)
and now Sakura Taisen.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.

Flipped through several chapters of "Claymore", volume 2 at the bookstore today. They didn't have volume 1 in stock. I'll have to check it out when I find it. It looks like it might be interesting. Some vague similarities to Blood+ and Bleach (yeah I know they're very different, but this is somehow somewhere in between.)

I hope you enjoy it, whenever you read more. There aren't too many Claymore fans, and certainly not enough here for us to discuss over anything more than PM. Let me say this for the plot: it outgrows the "killing monsters" plot archetype fairly quickly.

UC, do you believe that a sufficient number of volumes have been released to write a fairly accurate review for the series?

Yes (the most recent Japanese chapters are into the 13th volume) but I don't think the series is popular enough to warrant a review. As you know, we generally try to review only completed series except in the cases of the big titles, like Naruto or Bleach. If anyone is interested but concerned about content, I can provide a mini-review here.

I found this really cute series recently called Kitchen Princess...volume 3 is due out at the end of this month, but so far, it's mostly clean. There's also an added bonus of recipes at the end, which are of the foods that appear in the stories. ^_^

I've also started borrowing Di Gi Charat from my library...time to put a hold on book 2!

Claymore Mini-review

Content: Back nudity (not strictly necessary but not done as fanservice), little fanservice (Claymore uniforms are form-fitting), limited sexual content otherwise (a few tame references and the implication of a rape in the past). Extensive violence, but I don't think that will be a concern for you. Relatively little language. World is magic-less, if that's a concern.

Quality: Difficult to say. If you like the premise and execution, read it. If it doesn't strike you, you're probably better off passing the series. The pacing is rather slow (mostly due to large panels and long fights) but the plot does progress at each point in the story. At this point I cannot be certain if the plot will reveal an immense twist (in which case I would recommend the series strongly) or if it will end up being straightforward (in which case it is pretty mundane shonen, just with female characters).

- Westminister Confession of Faith (Chapter 5, Section 1)

"The wisdom of God has found a way for the love of God to deliver sinners from the wrath of God all the while upholding the righteousness of God!!"
- John Piper

"Grace is the pleasure of God to magnify the worth of God by giving sinners the right and power to delight in God without obscuring the glory of God!"
-John Piper

"The very One from Whom we need to be saved, is the One Who has saved us."
- R.C. Sproul

"All of Christian life is ceaseless worship of God the Father, through the mediatorship of God the Son, by the indwelling power of God the Spirit, doing what God commands in Scripture, not doing what God forbids in Scripture, in culturally contextualized ways, for the furtherance of the Gospel, when both gathered for adoration, and scattered for action, in joyous response to God's glorious grace."
- Mark Driscoll

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. On the contrary, they pray in order that they may arouse themselves to seek Him, that they may exercise their faith in meditating on His promises, that they may relieve themselves from their anxieties by pouring them into His bosom; in a word, that they may declare that from Him alone they hope and expect, both for themselves and for others, all good things."
- Martin Luther

"I have to tell you first that I am ready to die. I have put my affairs in order. Your supreme weapon is killing. My supreme weapon is dying, because when you kill me, people all over Romania will read my books and believe on the God that I preach - even more than they do now."
- Dr. Joseph Ton, the exiled Romanian pastor (quoted by James Montgomery Boice)

"The best prayer I ever prayed had enough sin in it to condemn the whole world."
- John Bunyan

"If the Christian has lost sight of Calvary, that shows that he has lost his way."
- J.I. Packer[/SIZE]

Rave Master (through Volume 22)
Vampire Knight
Basara
Parfait Tic

Excepting the first one (which is continuing as before, so I have no new comments) this is obviously shojo day for me. I'm a few volumes into Vampire Knight and thanks to the plot it hasn't irritated me enough yet to stop reading. I have high hopes for Basara but rather few for Parfait Tic. Once I've read these a bit (I have a reason, though there's no need to get into it here) I'll probably return to my shonen and seinen.

Silvery Crow

New shonen series by the Samurai Deeper Kyo guy. Only 1 chapter has been translated. so I can't have much of an opinion on it as of yet...but my initial impressions are that it might be a decent if unoriginal title.
