Ah, I finished vol. 4 for Kitchen Princess...and I have to finish reading Yostuba&! vol. 5.

Now, I have to wait for the rest of both series...that's the thing about the current series: you can't just go out and buy the next book once you've finished one. You've always gotta wait for it. Hopefully, it'll be worth the wait. :)

Just picked up Black Cat Vol. 1. Read two chapters of it and am loving it.

Finished volumes two and three of REBORN! and have read one chapter in volume four. Finished Death Note volume three and am eagerly waiting for the fourth.

EDIT: Black Cat Vol. 1 finished. I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Volumes 38-42

This is definitely my least favorite arc. Everything about the plot feels thrown together and I hate how the main plot will just stop so that a new character can be introduced that will soon be necessary for the plot (or, once, not matter at all). Only five volumes to go...

I ordered RuroKen vol. 28 from Barnes & Noble. That was a week ago. It hasn't come in yet. I'd just give up and get it somewhere else, but then what would I do with a second copy once it finally does come in?
Meanwhile, I just finished Monster vol. 6 and I'm starting GTO: The Early Years vol. 5.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Volumes 43-45

I will finish this arc once I get off work today. GioGio sounds like a much more interesting character than Josuke, so I expect I will enjoy the next one more.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Volumes 46-47

Thus Part IV ends, in typical JoJo fashion. Part V failed to catch my interest in half a volume (though it certainly gets into the action quickly) so I think I will take a break from this manga for a while. As of right now, my personal ranking of the series falls as such:
1. Battle Tendency (Part II)
2. Steel Ball Run (VII)
3. Stardust Crusaders (III)
4. Phantom Blood (I)
5. Nothing, I just really didn't like IV.
6. Diamond is Unbreakable (IV)

Interesting. I share your opinion of the series thus far. Depending on how the plot, characters, and abilities play out, though, I might eventually list Steel Ball Run on par with Battle Tendency, cover art aside.

I've heard split opinions about Parts IV, V, and VI, and have to date not read any of them. I might eventually look for translations, but for now I am satisfied with the first three arcs completed and SBR proving its value. Shame there's such a long period between volume translations on that one.

Right. Steel Ball Run has potential, but at this stage we don't know how it will develop (particularly the plot with the corpse). If it loses the excellent balance between elements of travel, plot, and fighting, it could potentially drop to the level of Stardust Crusaders for me.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - Volumes 48-63
Part V - Golden Wind. Overall, I enjoyed it, but there were a few places where I felt Araki really should have thought things through to a greater extent. Anyway, I think I'll take a break from JJBA for awhile.

Embalming -The Another Tale of Frankenstein- -Chapter 1
Nobuhiro Watsuki's latest series that's being serialized in Jump Square, Monthly Jump's replacement magazine.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Volume 48

I know I said I'd take a break from this series, but I had this volume lying around and wanted to procrastinate for 20 minutes. This one will probably be a solid #5 on my list.

Fire Candy Volumes 1-2

Gangs and drugs. An incomplete series that I read at random and didn't find particularly meaningful. The beginning also has some of the most off-kilter pacing and panel flow I've ever seen.

None of Watsuki's post-RK titles have impressed me much, but I think this one has potential. It feels similar to Buso Renkin (given the human-like monsters aspect) but the ending of the first chapter seems to promise a more complex plot.

Just finished Deep Love~ Host and Deep Love~ Reina no Unmei!

Man, I read Deep Love~ Ayu no Monogatari quite a while ago, and I loved it, but when I first picked up Host a couple years back, I felt really betrayed. But I sat through and restarted it and read through it all in one sitting! It was so wonderful and terrible at the same time, and I cried so badly... I still can't stop shaking. It was so tragic! I really want to watch the drama and movie now!

(It's also nearly pornographic, but not as bad as Ayu no Monogatari.)

I finally got my RuroKen 28 from Barnes & Noble. Read it in the cafe area over an IBC cream soda and a big honkin' chocolate chip cookie. It's been great. I don't regret it at all, but I can say with certainty that I'm never following another 28-volume series again. So for now I'm just concentrating on Monster.

XD I said the same thing when I finished Kenshin. Then I read 20th Century Boys. Only 22 volumes, but you can bet I'm going to own every single one of them. XD

After RK he did a number of shorts, Gun Blaze West, and Buso Renkin. Apparently he has done two oneshots in the world of Embalming, but this will be a full series.

Are all of these based on a series of novels or something similar? I got a strong feeling of that when I glanced at some of the Deep Love manga and consequently felt like each story was only a fragment of something larger.

The Deep Love manga is based on the novel of the same name, which was, if I recall correctly, the first written-for-cell-phones novel, which eventually became a print bestseller and apparently influenced quite a number of high school girls to give up enjo kosai. It was also adapted into a movie and television drama.

The Ayu no Monogatari manga is just supposed to be a straight-up adaption of the novel, I believe, and Host and Reina occur after the events of Ayu.

Hm, I have been reading a LOT of dark manga lately.

Welcome to the NHK (v1-5) - It's supposed to be really comedic, but I found it really dark and depressing-- in a good way. I totally empathize with the characters and all the horrible things that are happening to them. I cried in some parts.

The Hour of the Mice (c11-12) - It's started getting really suspenseful! This is the kind of series I really like-- stuff about broken children as the victims of adults, fugitives from a corrupt authority, and secret corporate conspiracies. I swear, I will read ANYTHING that combines broken children, fugitives, and conspiracies.

FullMetal Alchemist, vol. 15 (much thanks to Fish XD). I'm really very impressed with the quality of this series so far, not to mention how much more I like the manga than the anime. I really love all of the development that characters aside from Edward and Alphones are getting. It's quite good. XD
