Let me know what you think, and tell me what you figure out about the ending! It's a bit of a puzzle.

Very clever misdirect. At first I thought he'd been killed while rushing to the hospital and these were the thoughts of a ghost. However, it later appears that the child (and possibly even the mother) died in childbirth. He suffered a mental breakdown and has been delusional ever since.

I especially like the descriptions in the first half, the comparisons of light/warmth and darkness.

Thank you so much for reading! Actually, I was gunning for a vampire rather than a ghost, but the story works no matter what you think it is. You're correct about the delusions.
