Death of 3D Realms?

Postby shooraijin » Wed May 06, 2009 7:31 pm

TechCrunch is also reporting this, which makes it immediately suspicious, but there is a fair bit of corroborating evidence to suggest that 3D Realms and possibly even its parent Apogee are no more. 3D Realms, of course, was most famous for Duke Nukem 3D and the vapourware Duke Nukem Forever, while Apogee did numerous shareware games including Wacky Wheels, Halloween Harry and their biggest hit, Wolfenstein 3D.

Take-Two does still have publishing rights to DN4E, so maybe it'll still emerge from a different publisher.

Does this mean Duke Nukem Forever won't be released?

EDIT: Nevermind, Duken Nukem Forever = DN4E.

Based off of what I've read on wiki and other mumblings...yeah I think they are gone...DN4E will probably be picked up by another company...but who knows if it will actually get released...they might just give up on it after all these years.

I think that'd be better in the long run. DN4E would be a complete flop of a game -- even if it was truly amazing -- because it would NEVER live up to expectations.

If it Duke Nukem For(n)ever actually DID come out, that alone would shatter all expectations. Most likely it would be some other game that has nothing in common with the original series being released under purchased rights to the name. You could still make a lot of money with that flop - which means someone may very well try it. ;)

There is a plus to this: all of their older titles (at least those they have the copyright on) are apparently released as freeware. Go get!
