A Journey On Wings Part Two

"Mrs. Shimen?"
"Yes, I'm here," answered Aunt May.
"I have some good news and some bad news. What would you like to here first?" asked the doctor.
The dragon had left shortly after stabbing Faid. Someone had apparently called 911 and an ambulance had come and rushed Faid to the hospital. Principal Kelly had called Aunt May and she had rushed immediately to the hospital.
"Bad."
"Your nephew is in a coma. We don't know if or when he will come out. The good news is his vitals are stable and no one else was hurt. It’s really a miracle he survived. The blade passed right between the lungs and missed the heart. He should have only a small scar on his upper chest. He did lose a lot of blood though. We don't know the reason of his coma, but we do expect him to come out soon." Aunt May nearly wept with relief. "Would you like to see him?" asked the doctor.
"Yes."
He led Aunt May into a small one-person room. Faid lay on the only bed. Aunt May approached him as she said, "He looks so peaceful." She sat down in the chair next to the beside. "Oh, Faid. There's something I have to tell you. You aren't my nephew. My brother, your father, adopted you when you were just two years old. A man came to their door one night with a baby. The man was badly wounded; even so, he requested he not be taken to a doctor. He died the next morning. Before he died he gave your father a key and told him to give it to you when you were old enough. He said it was very important. Your stepparents buried him in Evergreen Cemetery. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. Please forgive me."
"Mrs. Shimen?" May turned around to face the doctor. "Someone would like to see Faid. He says he goes to school with him."
"Alright." A boy with blond hair stepped into the room.
"I'm John," he said as he walked over to where Faid lay. He took a necklace off his neck and gingerly placed it around Faid's. "I'm sorry," he whispered. He turned and left the room. To May's surprise, the necklace John had given to Faid was the very key she had just spoken of.
