Yeah, even Robin Williams failed. And this is coming from a die-hard Robin Williams fan!

Just happy Star Trek got something, even in a minor category.

Just so they can throw more money at the sequel....and maybe eliminate the lens flare. :stressed:

Nono. This was an actual event, not his own opinion. The Golden Raspberries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/30th_Golden_Raspberry_Awards

Ah okay. I didn't know that. My apologies then, Davidizer!

Still, my statements still stand. Just in reference to those guys rather than him.

I totally agree with you. It was the best one that I've seen in years, also the cleanest and least political, (well aside from the fact that The Cove won best documentary.) All in all it was one of the best Oscars that I've ever seen.

Though I must say that my favorite Oscar moment was when Falling Slowly from Once won song of the year.

A documentary winning "Best Documentary" is political?

What she said.

The documentary itself was very political.

One of those ones where animal rights is more important than human rights.

I haven't seen it, but here is the wikipedia synopsis:

The movie follows former dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry's quest to document the dolphin hunting operations in Taiji, Wakayama, Japan. In the 1960s, O'Barry captured and trained the five wild dolphins who would play the role of "Flipper" in the hit television series of the same name. This pop-culture phenomenon fueled widespread public adoration of dolphins. It was when one of the dolphins committed a form of suicide in his arms, closing her blowhole voluntarily in order to suffocate, that O'Barry came to see it as a curse not a blessing. Days later, he found himself off the island of Bimini, attempting to cut a hole in the sea pen in order to set free a captured dolphin.[9] Since then O'Barry has worked tirelessly as an advocate on behalf of dolphins around the world.
After meeting with O'Barry, Psihoyos and his crew travel to the small town of Taiji, a town that appears to be devoted to the wonder of the dolphins and whales that swim off their coast. But in an isolated cove, surrounded by wire and "Keep Out" signs, some of the townspeople hide a stark reality. It is here that the fisherman of Taiji, driven by a multi-billion dollar dolphin entertainment industry and a dubious and artificial market for mercury-tainted dolphin meat, engage in the unseen killing. Together with the Oceanic Preservation Society, Psihoyos, O'Barry, and the crew utilizes special tactics and embark on a mission to get the truth on what is really going on in the cove and why it matters to everyone else in the world.[10]
The film also reports on the alleged "buying" by Japan of votes in the International Whaling Commission.

That doesn't sound too political to me. Well, no more political than any documentary is, anyways.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. The whaling and fishing exploits of Japan and similar countries have been an open secret for some time now anyway. I can't really see how this is particularly political, or human rights vs. animal rights.

Anyway, Christopher Waltz won best supporting actor and really that's all that matters. Shame Inglourious Basterds couldn't also win best screenplay, but that's neither here nor there.

And Up, wonderful, even though they showed their hand early by nominating it for best picture.

I have to admit, I'm not a fan of documentaries, but that sounds like a sad and compelling story.

I actually haven't seen The Cove...So I'm sorry for saying it's political or whatever. It's just it has the same feel as many of the documentaries and just animal rights activists that I've run into.

I couldn't actually say that it's animal over human or not, but that's just the feeling I get that it has from all I've seen about it.

I was kinda sorta hoping that The Secret of Kells would win best animated movie, but I love Up too so I have no complaints.

And now I want to see The Hurt Locker. :P
