Classic-style FPS?

Postby Midori » Fri Apr 16, 2010 3:32 pm

I'm wondering. With all the cut-and-dry "modern" FPSes around, are there any recent games that play more like Goldeneye 64, or Perfect Dark? The particular features I'm looking for being a large number of different weapons and non-linear levels. And not having regenerating health (or frequent health pickups, which is more or less equivalent). The only game I've seen recently that's close to this ideal is MGS4, and I still haven't finished MGS3...

Hmm... What level of intensity are you OK with?

I played one a while back (borrowed from a work buddy) that was set in the WWII era and had aliens. I think it had some yellow stuff that gets injected into you, maybe? I know it wasn't bioshock. I can't remember what it was, but I'm sure someone here will jog my memory. It was for PS3 and was pretty intense. Not sure it's for everyone, but I could probably borrow it from a buddy for a week, if you wanna check it out and see if it's something you're in to.

Bioshock also jumps readily to mind, but it's pretty violent, gory, and scary. You can get as many or a few health pick ups as you want by just going "hard" instead of "easy."

I have no problem with intensity. I should try one or the other of those games then. It's just...every time I play a recent FPS I find myself wanting to go back and play Goldeneye. :brow:

Dude, Far Cry 2. It was awesome. Wide open world and you can go wherever you want. And the graphics are amazing.

Also, have you played the Ratchet and Clank Futures games? Both Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time were a lot of fun and seemed to have some of the stuff you were looking for. Really great dialogue, too. :D

I've played them both many times - it's actually the only FPS I own at the moment (well, specific to the PS3, anyway.)

Ah, thanks guys. I'll check those out once I find a cord for my PS3 controllers. :|
