Hoodwinked. Every time we watch this, my brother and I find something new to apreciate about it. It's just... fun!

I just finished watching Primer (2004) a seriously low-budget independent film (it only cost US $7,000). Don't go looking for amazing production values, you won't find them. That said, this philosophical techno-thriller/drama has an incredibly complex, intelligent and original premise. The script is well-written and the lead actors provide strong acting. The film doesn't dumb it's language down, so you probably have to know at least advanced Maths and Science to make sense of it but Maths is my least favourite subject and I still managed to enjoy it. The film never bored me despite it's glacial pace.
Primer is rated PG-13 for 'brief language'.
If you want to be challenged to think, and can forgo fantastic production values to enjoy a quality story, this is the film for you.

Time After Time

This was actually a pretty good movie. I was expecting it to be extremely cheesy and bad, but it was actually well made. (Taking into account the 1979 special effects) I decided that I had to see it as soon as I saw the DVD cover-



I then followed it up by watching MST3K: Soul Taker, which was hilarious.

Finally did my cultural duty and watched Avatar. Dang. It was pretty, but MYST is pretty too and it has, well, you know a plot. I honestly thought that was one of the stupidest movies I've seen. and it didn't end!

@Cognitive Gear: Time After Time was a weird movie but I agree it is entertaining. I love the tagline on the cover.
MST3K is always a good choice and Soultaker is a good one.

I agree with it completely!

Anyway, I watched Big Trouble in Little China last night.
That was hilarious!!! I loved it. John Carpenter is definitely one of my, if not my, favorite director. If you like kung fu movies or just sci-fi movies then watch this.

Watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last night with Mom, Dad, and my brother. It was edited kinda funny in some places...but still very enjoyable.

Also, earlier this week I saw Wall-E for the first time. Also enjoyed that. And the one Pixar short on the disk (not Burn-E, the other one) was just brilliant.

Also, earlier this week I saw Wall-E for the first time. Also enjoyed that. And the one Pixar short on the disk (not Burn-E, the other one) was just brilliant.

For HP, did you notice that they [spoiler]never explain what 'The Half-Blood Prince means? You'd think that for it being in the title of the movie, it would be an important plot point >.>"[/spoiler]

Oddly enough, I didn't notice that. But it is odd, now that you mention it. However, there was a lot more of Snape in this movie, so I liked it a lot! Snape is awesome.

WALL-E was wonderful, and Harry Potter was good too.

I believe the short was called 'Presto', and yes it was the better of the two when it comes to silliness, however, BURN-E was a better story, and was alos beautifully tied into the main plot.

Well, I finally watched the last half of Amadeus. I watched the first half so long ago, though, that I had forgotten a good portion of it. Nice to have some closure, though.

I have also been watching a lot of television lately, mostly at social events. This has included many re-runs of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, as well as Psych (which I had never seen before, but enjoy) and Merlin. The latter is a bit on the cheesy side, but has good amount of inter-character development. I think it is ultimately worth the time.

Oh, and I started Dr. Who season 2. The transition to Tennant wasn't nearly as difficult I had imagined it would be, largely because Tennant is so awesome.

[spoiler]I forgot that they never really explained that in the movie! If I remember correctly, Snape is a "mudblood," or "half-blood" himself, meaning he comes from a line of both Muggles and Wizards. Infer from that what you will, based on Snape's character and treatment of other "half-bloods." XD[/spoiler]

Anyways, I watched Children of Men last night! Excellent, excellent movie; I really enjoyed it.

I also watched How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, which was extraordinarily mediocre and disappointing for a Simon Pegg comedy. XD I blame the presence of Megan Fox, who played a role so similar to herself (or the image she presents of herself) that I can't imagine any real acting was involved. XD I don't really recommend it. XD

Last thing I watched was a 1946 French version of Beauty and the Beast. Interesting silimarities between Disney's and this, and lots of interesting differences.

Aliens Collector's Edition.

You make a fun sci-fi movie, James Cameron. I forgot how enjoyable this was in a purely visceral manner. Nothing like watching marines kill huge insect/arachnid-eqsue monsters while hearing Bill Paxton scream, "Game over, man! Game over!" Plus I watched it with someone who had never seen any of the movies before and got to explain the overarching "plot" of the series, which was fun for me.

When I saw Never Say Never Again, I assumed I didn't like it that much because of age. Seeing this makes me realize I'm just not a huge James Bond fan.

Session 9

It took a little while to get into the film, simply because of the edgy cinematography (frequent sharp cuts) and the weird sound effects and other "strange things" started to happen so early in the film that a solid baseline of normality wasn't readily established. Still, once the film got going it pulled it all together and made for a very unsettling and disturbing film.

Alien

Even though I knew the basic outline of the plot, it still managed to build up a great amount of tension. Even got me with a couple of "jump moments" which rarely affect me. It had a little bit more gore than I would have liked (or was necessary, in my opinion), but it didn't use it as a crutch: the true horror came from the character's emotions. The movie is old enough that it probably wouldn't have been very tense or scary if Ripley hadn't done some extremely believable acting.

Dr. Who (reboot) series 2

Another fantastic season, probably better than the first, even. Tennant makes a fine Doctor, and after a few episodes I made the transition quite smoothly. My favorite moment of the season actually occured on the very last episode [spoiler]when the Cybermen met up with the Daleks and they were talking smack to each other. That was priceless.[/spoiler] but there were many other great episodes as well. I look forward to the next season.

Last night I watched The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939).

Saw Inception in theaters! Awesome movie. It had great acting and an awesome concept, and even good story-telling. I was very impressed. The only thing I didn't like was that I felt they had a bit too much music in it. I wanted a few more silent scenes to help the release from the tension.

Still, once the film got going it pulled it all together and made for a very unsettling and disturbing film.

I enjoyed that movie too! I love abandoned buildings/urban exploration and it's not often that you see films that feature actual abandoned locations like that.

ETA: Saw Wall-E recently. It was a nice movie but it didn't quite resonate with me as well as some other Pixar films have.
