Sweet, fancy Moses. This show is fantastic. Sometimes I forget how good American television shows can be.

Mad Men is a wonderful, complex, thoughtful character study of 1960s ad men (and women) and the people in their lives. It did not take me long to become heavily invested emotionally in the lives of these characters. It's the kind of show that I sometimes have to tell myself, "Hey, don't get so upset. These are not real people." In a sense, they are though. They are our parents and grandparents.

The show is absolutely meticulous about recreating the 1960s onscreen. You can just feel it in the decor. The show uses actual TV show?news footage of what would have been on TV at the time (JFK, Cuban Missile crisis, etc.). Pregnant ladies are smoking and drinking. Kids romp around the inside of cars without seat belts. The racial and gender landscape is quite a bit different. The actresses cannot work out (typical body shape was different back then) and they have to wear era-specific (read: more conservative) undergarments any time they are on set, regardless if they are going to be "showcasing" said undergarments. Basically, the creators are friggan dedicated to the realism of this thing.

I cannot say enough about how amazing this show is. Deserving of all its Emmys. Totally worth seeing.

If you like Mad Men, be sure to check out Breaking Bad, The Wire, and Boardwalk Empire. All of these shows are just utterly fantastic.

Not bad. But the thing about Liam Neeson playing Hannibal Smith is that whenever he speaks I keep thinking of Aslan doing his lines. I can't help imagining Aslan with a cigar in his mouth, saying, "I love it when a plan comes together, son of Adam."

Breaking Bad is great, I just haven't managed to get my hands on the discs yet. The others are on my watch list. Just hope that the rumored Netflix deal w/ HBO goes through and we get The Wire and BWE streaming.

If that deal goes through, I will immediately reactivate my netflix subscription, even if HBO content costs a premium. You hear me, Netflix and HBO? Immediately.

Just saw Tangled a while ago. It's a really nice movie.

Just tried to watch Conan the Barbarian. Couldn't even get through it. The Governator's performance is . . . not Robert E. Howard's character come to life. I'd like for the upcoming Conan movie to get it right, but I'm not optimistic.

I've seen both! And I liked them both, though not equally. XD Sorcerer's Apprentice was better than I'd expected, and HTTYD was... amazing. o____o

I think everyone on here has seen HTTYD! XD I think we even have a thread for it! Much love for it!

Sorcerer's Apprentice.... not awesome. Just above mediocre. I'm a little sick of Cage being typecast as he is, and the plot and pacing of the story was rather poor.

I've been watching....
Clue
Beetlejuice
Secondhand Lions

Secondhand Lions is one of the best movies I've ever seen. But pretty much no one knows about it!

Oh, Beetlejuice is a fun movie if you can get used to Michael Keaton's constant, raving, hyperactive energy.

My roommates keep the tv on pretty much all the time, so have gotten sucked into watching a good chunk of following:

Exit Wounds (smart action movie)
The Demolition Man (Lots of action and corny one-liners, what is not to like?)
Bad Boys (Michael Bay is Michael Bay)
Executive Decision (Seagal dies! I don't think I have ever seen this happen before)

I have also seen a few other movies at various intervals over the past couple of months.

Law Abiding Citizen (graphic enough to require a fast finger on the remote, but raises interesting questions)
Zombieland (Classic)
Escanaba in the Moonlight (didn't remember it being so darn weird)

It does seem to be pretty under-watched by the general populace. It is a shame, because it is a total classic.

It works for the movie, definitely. BJ is definitely a memorable character because of it! And I think that it ties with Nightmare Before Xmas as my favorite Burton film

I love this movie so much. XDD It's not one of my all-time favorites, but it's SO good, and it really exceeded my expectations when I saw it! Agreed that it is way far underrated. XD

Grubb, sounds very different to the Hatchet novel series!

What is it about Secondhand Lions that makes it so good? (No spoilers please). I confess I've never seen the movie before.

Three things:

Michael Caine
Robert Duvall
ADVENTURES.

You should totally find a way to watch it. XD

...just thought I'd say this- apparently voice actor Travis Willingham is in that movie as an extra. (well known for playing Roy Mustang)

I finally finished the live action Death Note: L-Change the World film. I love Kenichi....he is an epic and hot L. Not nearly as good as the first too. And the virus was better in the book.

and I'm saying this as a movie geek, not as a death note fan.

Wow, someone willingly watching those movies a second time? Or wait...maybe someone kidnapped your family and is threatening to torture them unless you watch them.

Or maybe there's a Rifftrax out for them. Oooh that must be it! Rifftrax makes anything watchable, even those films.

Buried... dumb... Good concept.. bad script. No story arch or nothing... nothing comes full circle, no conspiracy, the phone emergency operators all have sticks in their butts and are over acted. The ransom by the terrorists make no sense.. since when do terrorists care about money anyway... and leaving him in a box buried, I don't think you should count on getting it. The character wastes way to much oxygen to last that long and be believable.

The good... I liked the concept of a whole movie with a guy buried in a coffin. Just wish it had more interesting stuff going on over the phones. Some kind of story arch. And some of the conversations just feel forced and badly written. Ryan Reynolds was good in it though. He carried the movie well... wasn't bored by his performance... he did some stupid idiotic things and I don't think some of his choices were realistic when they happened.

Anyway yeah... could have been good... but really wasn't. Had some good scenes but it felt way to episodic. Like you could break the movie down into parts and you wouldn't really miss anything if you skipped a part.

Several years and purchasing it and after watching it's companion piece, Flags of Our Fathers, I finally sat down and watched Letters From Iwo Jima. It was beautiful, though the largely (mostly?) fictional parts and characters of the story took away from it's power some, I think, especially in light of Eastwood's other treatment.

I saw HALF of Honey and Clover after renting it through Netflix - unfortunately, the DVD was too badly scratched to finish it. Should get a replacement on Monday.
