Annual October horror thread

In tradition (ok not really) I figured I'd make the usual October scary movie thread. What are top horror films? What movies do you usually watch this time of the year. I am a huge fan of the horror genre and all it's eccentrices so who else is?

I think the Scream trilogy is great. I also like the ones that mix horror and comedy, like Gremlins and Ghostbusters.

Last year was my first time seeing any horror films at all. So my favorites out of them:

Session 9
The Shining
The Exorcist
Trick 'r Treat
Ju-On
The Grudge (yes, I liked both the remake and the original of this film!)
Psycho
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (the filmed stage version with Angela Lansbury)

My lineup for this year (note: I have not seen any of these yet):
Eraserhead
Rec
Wicker Man (original)
28 Days Later
Let The Right One In
The Orphanage

Yep. It gets a little less scary each time I watch it, but remains a good film. It's rather sad that Stephen King doesn't like it!

Well, that's the thing- Jack has those crazy eyes, so you can tell from the beginning he's not going to be staying sane. King wanted it to stay a mystery until it happened.

I probably won't be watching any horror movies. I don't like them at all and getting scared isn't fun for me. :sweat:

My friends all think I'm a big baby, but I'll seriously have nightmares over even the most simple horror film. The few I have seen though are:

Freddy Vs. Jason (more comedy then horror though I think).
Hide and Seek (I actually rather liked this one).
Wicker Man (the re-make).
Lady in the Water (does this one count as horror)?
Halloween (several of them, not sure which ones though).
Psycho (watched that one in school for film study a few years ago).

That's all I can actually remember for now. I liked all of them except for Wicker Man.

The Wicker Man remake is generally considered pretty poor, so I'm not surprised. I'm definitely seeing the original.

The Wicker Man remake, starring Nicolas Cage in a bear suit.

My favorite horror flicks are The Shining, The Exorcist, Poltergeist, Session 9, The Others (not really a "horror" film I guess but close enough), Psycho, and probably a couple others that I can't remember at the moment.

I'm not a fan of the horror genre in general, but I love good movies no matter what genre they are.

I didn't know Jaws was considered "horror". I guess it is kind of scary at times. In any case, I love that movie.

I think that I will only be watching the Movies that the CBC will show in their Night Late Movie section this year.
The Movies I usually watch this time of year are:

All the Hannibal Lecter movies.
Psycho (The First One)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Thing (The one from the 80's.)

Hey, me too! =D I went pretty crazy with it last year, all October was horror movies (and The Walking Dead) almost every night and then, in November, my NaNoWriMo story had to do with monsters. XD

The best one I've seen this year is Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. It is brilliant and the only movie not directed by Edgar Wright that's been able to make fun of a genre of movies while, at the same time, make a worthwhile story that rivals the best of said genre. I was pretty blown away. It's on Netflix instant if any of you have that.

Anyone seeing paranormal activity 3 tonight? I will be and then if anyone's interested I will be posting a 3 part review of all three paranormal activity films.

I don't care much for horror/gore and tend to prefer suspense-type movies for a good scare (holy cow, Disturbia freaked me out the first time I saw it --love it, though).

I did enjoy The Shining and the Child's Play (Chucky) movie up to "[I]Bride of Chucky[/I]" as well as a few others I can't think of at the moment.

However, I have never been able to watch an entire Nightmare on Elm Street movie. Nope. Not going to do it, either. I don't think I'd be able to sleep for a good while.

The Exorcist just weirded me out.

Got home last night from Paranormal activity 3 and it was pretty friggen scary. It used way to many jump scares though

I watch The Haunting (1963 version), Young Frankenstein and Killer Klowns from Outers Space. I read Shirley Jacskon's The Haunting of Hill House. I play Silent Hill.

As far as scary horror movies go, Vincent Price movies are pretty tame. And yet, if I go a year without watching at least ONE of the Edgar Alan Poe movies he made with Roger Corman around this time, it's a year done wrong.

I personally think horror is as dependent on atmosphere as it is scares. Vincent price films drip atmosphere

OOOH I Was Just gonna make this thread! I Love horror films my favorites usually fall into 2 categories, Classic(the universal monster movies, Alfred hitchcock) and the Campy ones(but those kind of fall into categories themselves)

My top 10 horror favorites (No particular order, some are Comedies as well)

1. Dawn of the Dead (70s original)

2. Psycho (original not remake)

3. Troll 2

4. Plan 9 from outer Space

5. Nightmare on Elmstreet (original)

6. Friday the 13 (original)

7. Childs Play 2

8. Shaun of the Dead

9. Godzilla (1954 one is pretty much a horror movie although my favorite Godzilla movie is Destroy all monsters)

10. Robot Monster

Also some favorite halloween movies of mine that aren't techniquely horror.
Beetlejuice, Both Adams Family movies, and the 1st Teen Wolf although I never saw the sequel.

Well, there's been talk of watching Silence of the Lambs with my roommate, so I'm looking forward to that (though I've heard there's some explicit scenes - thankfully my roommate has seen it before and can hopefully warn me when to look away). If that falls through, I'll try to watch Deep Blue Sea, which a friend of mine recommended.

Horror/suspense movies I've enjoyed:

Signs
The Sixth Sense
The Grudge (the most terrifying movie I've ever seen)
The Ring
Psycho
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
Escalofrio (Shiver) - which I basically just enjoyed because it had a very effective handheld camera in one scene, reversed the dark=scary a little, and talked about feral children, which is something that fascinates me

I just wish I had the computer game Penumbra with me, because that's the most terrifying thing to do - perfect for Halloween.
