Watched the original Ocean's Eleven last night. Very different from the remake, they actually hit the separate casinos simultaneously and there are five of them, as opposed to the remake where the reduced the heist to a single vault job. And despite that its a much more believable heist.

Tonight I re-watched Wallace and Gromit:The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. I forgot how good this movie is. Hilarious, even in the serous parts they're parodying stuff.

Bedtime Stories
Has a very creative way of fore-shadowing, but it just drags the plot down. But what was really annoying was the special effects and the humor.

Underworld Awakening... I had fun with it. Most fun I've had at the movies in a loong time. Don't really go see a lot but I really liked it. If you're into this series, I think you'd enjoy it. Sets it up for a sequel though so that is frustrating since I hate it when movies do that. But, I'll be in line when it comes out. Interested in seeing where they'll go with it next.

Kung Fu Panda 2
Poetic, witty and funny.

X-Men First Class
Pretty good.

Real Steel
Starts out pretty slow, thus making it boring. It gets interesting at the part where they find Adam, but the film doesn't improve from on there. But the story is good, just not executed right.

The Way. The subject matter was very refreshing and inspirational for Christian viewers, although I have to admit the writing was a little indulgent at times. Same problem (and value) with Bella.

Neko no Ongaeshi (The Cat's Return) by Studio Ghibli. And being Studio Ghibli, it transported you to another world. It was cute. A bit short and juvenile, but excellent.

Say Anything. We're all familiar with the image of John Cusack holding a boombox aloft but I had never actually watched the movie. Many of the 80's teen romances are just stupid (particularly John Hughes films, which I think are vastly overrated), but I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I wouldn't recommend it for younger viewers, but it has some really excellent characters and a great story for a romantic comedy.

Hugo. Do yourself a favour and watch in 3D. Scorsese is clearly experimenting a lot with depth-of-field tricks to actually exploit 3D as a cinematic technique rather than simple eye-candy. There's a secondary visual theme of smoke which also looks amazing in 3D (sometimes you feel like the smoke is around you.)

If you are interested in the history of cinema at all, you MUST see this movie.

Real Steel - It was decent, the father son chemistry is all that kept me watching. The third act was easily the best part of the movie. It had to be the most predictable movie I have seen in a while.

Just watched X-men First Class. Very good movie and it raised some thought-provoking questions too. In fact, it even surprised me.

Can't recommend enough the recently released in theaters John Carter (of Mars) if you like Science-Fantasy Adventure movies.

It's based on the series of books from from Edgar Rice Burroughs about a confederate soldier who gets transported to Mars in the late 1800's in the middle of a civil war going on there. The books are what modern science-fiction films such as Stargate, Star Wars, and most recently Avatar have used for source material/inspiration. Unlike Avatar though, it's a much more pleasing movie to experience with no preachy 'environmental' message and hardly any 'language' at all... It's PG-13 mainly for the violence, not for the language (it would be PG for language). Shame the critic all want to hate the movie for some strange reason, almost cheering at it not meeting expectations (due mainly to bad marketing.) The general public who's seen it likes it very much though, and it has a very positive word of mouth presence! A very well done and well rounded movie.

If you like Stargate, Star Wars, or Avatar I'd highly suggest seeing John Carter (of Mars) - IMO it's better than any one of those three.

So beautiful, both in visuals and especially in writing. I nearly cried--twice.
