Finished Hetalia Axis Powers today. Ha. Hahaha. Enjoyed it immensely. Waiting for the sequel to be dubbed and on Hulu though, because I don't want to try and keep up with subtitles that fast-paced.

well weekly I get my bleach and naruto fix, I know they are not the best anime out there but they are both in current canon. naruto last couple of episodes was really good and well animated. its the flashback what happend with his birth and the ninetails attack on the village. bleach anime got good.
I also watch the newest fairy tail episodes and so far it's doing a good job adapting the manga. tenrou island is one of the best arcs.

Sweet, another convert! :P

Ouran Highschool Host Club Eps 1-4
I'm not sure I'm sold. Sure, it has made me laugh a lot, but part of me hates myself for it. It's basically a reverse harem show, absolutely exploitative of totally unbelievable characters which are super reduced caricatures of obnoxious personalities. I guess it also doesn't help having read CLAMP School Detectives when I was in highschool and learning to loathe these ridiculously perfect bishies, rich, athletic and popular, because they were such a cruel mockery of my own experience.

I can tell the series has its virtues (mostly comedic) but I think it's just not for me.

That's the joke. I mean, seriously, it's a parody. While the later episodes of Ouran do up the actual drama(and pull it off pretty well), the whole joke is that they're these spoiled rich kids who have deliberately put themselves into these preestablished bishie stereotypes. They're not supposed to be perfect, which is the joke.

Yeah, I get that. They even break the 4th wall to point it out, and it's all very funny, but at the end of the day, you watched a very basic shoujo (not my fav genre) series and more bishies that you wish you knew that existed, just to get some comedy based only on running gags and obnoxious personalities. I mean, I've already seen the twins pretending to be a shounen-ai couple in normal attire, hawaiian attire, sports attire, etc and same with every other archetype along with a muttered "darn these rich people" at least once per episode. Pretty sure that at some point in 26 iterations, the joke must run thin.

I think I'm going to watch the 5th episode, if only because the 4th introduced a new character that may change a bit the whole dynamic.

Sooo I've been watching my second (I think) anime ever, and I'm really enjoying it actually. ^^ Clannad. It's so sweet and cute, and just pleasant to watch overall. The childish girl characters don't annoy me or irritate me so much, probably 'cause I can relate to "being like 12 although 18" thing. XD It's really cute.

Finished Sora no Woto yesterday and I've got mixed feelings about it. It had the potential to be a great series (not that it isn't horrible, mind you), but the ending felt rushed and somewhat cliche. That being said, I absolutely loved the world it's set in. I could see a spinoff doing very well, if it sticks to the serious stuff.

Finished Like the Clouds, Like the Wind. Great movie. Sad ending though. :/

Finished Kimi ni Todoke. ARGGHHH! Sawako is just annoying me now, I wish she'd get bolder already! I hate the suspense!
I watched the first episode of the Second series hoping I'd see more opening for the direction I'm hoping for, and she hasn't changed at ALLL! ARGH!

That is all.

I'm currently watching "Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad" Episode 7 for review on my blog. After reviewing the atrocity that is "Boys Be..." (Shamless Plug--Click the Link!!) I need something to cleanse my palette.

If you are in the mood for similar mecha ridiculousness, check out Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo and Mazinkaiser SKL. Both are short (the former is 4 episodes, and the latter us only 3) and give you a shot of what you just got.

I finally gave in and watched Ouran Highschool Host Club 5-13. 5th episode was quite deep and gave me momentum to keep watching. 6th onward have been an uneven mix of terribly generic [s]monster[/s]drama-of-the-week shoujo and Fruits-Basket-like goodness. At the very least, it is consistently funny so I guess I can live with that. Not going to get ranked among any of my favourites, but it's entertaining and I'll happily finish it.

Heartcatch Precure: Hana no Miyako de Fashion Show... Desu ka!? aka Heartcatch: the Movie

Man this movie made me feel good! This is everything I love about Heartcatch condensed into the length of about three episodes, so it's basically the equivalent a really excellent Heartcatch arc with a bigger budget (the show already had a large budget to begin with, so...). Excellent fight scenes and animation, good soundtrack, the Cures doing their thing and a heart-warming, feel-good ending. The direction of the movie was superb (especially the choices made concerning the telling and re-telling of the scene in which Cure Moonlight is transported to the theater), bar the ever-so-slight rushed feeling the final fight had. I feel like this is Toei writing a love letter to the supporters of the TV series, and I can't thank them enough, really. Those who haven't seen the show might not be as invested due to the lack of character/power introduction, but that show is so worth it! Go watch it! Then watch this, smile, get warm fuzzies, and feel great.

Last Exile 21-22 - I really need to finish this. It's still going well, but I'm just scared of the disaster I felt the ending was the first time around.

EDIT: Finished Last Exile. That wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered. My opinion of it has gone up. However, it still has a number of issues that keep me from rasing its rating higher than what I had it originally, that weren't as apparent the first time around.

Yes, all of this!

Because I'm sad and also culturally illiterate I spent a bit of time searching for the theatre in this film. It turned out to be the Palais Garnier, which used to be Paris's main opera house and is the setting for The Phantom of the Opera.

Yes! Finally someone who doesn't outright dismisses the series. I mean, I'm pretty aware of its shortcomings but by the comments of most people around here, you'd think it's something on par with Eiken.

This is a pretty great series. And I find it pretty hard to watch it with a straight face XD
