Watched episodes 21 and 22 of Persona 4 today.
O_O I didn't see killing off Nanako coming. How sad! Part of me is hoping she's not actually dead...the other part of me thinks it would be more disappointing if she didn't die die. (I'm a little tired of temporary demises.)
D.Gray-man episodes 40-41 - My interest in this series had been flagging somewhat, but even though there was a lot of recap in these episodes, my interest has been rejuvenated. I think it might have something to do with Lavi coming back. Something about him makes Allen more interesting, I think. Maybe it's the whole thing about foils playing off each other.

Oh, and I also finished watching Lovely Complex with my roommate, who loved it, and have watched FMA: Brotherhood episodes 20-29 again.

Yes! Lavi is awesome, he kind of brings it to life.

Watched episode 9 of Another. Eeee. I love this show.

EDIT: Episode 19 of Guilty Crown. Okay. Sure. Whatever.

Finished Soul Eater a few days ago, and...well...yeaaaahhh...
I knew that there was apparently a horrible ending before I watched, but I didn't know what exactly it was. For most of it, I thought "This isn't so bad, why is this considered a bad ending?", but then...MAKA IS A WEAPON?! No...just, no.
Other than that, the animation was great (I would expect no less of BONES) and I liked the characters. The music was cool too, but the story itself...wasn't very gripping. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't incredibly interesting.
EDIT: The story was ok up until the anime diverged from the source manga halfway through. It was then that I just lost interest.

BONES makes super great animation, but they do not do a really great job when it comes to story. BONES has a very incompetent staff in the storyboards. They do produce some gems, however.

Watched Sentou Yousei Yukikaze. It was like an Asylum Pictures type verison of Macross Plus. Also it packed so much realism that it was very cool.

Well. I kind of went all marathon-y today...

in addition to the last update:

Black Rock Shooter ep 7
Guilty Crown ep. 20 -- I actually quite enjoyed this one.
Spice and Wolf II eps. 1-4
.hack//Quantum ep. 3 -- enjoyed this OVA quite a bit, actually. (actually in relation to that I really didn't like .hack//sign)
Inu x Boku SS ep 5.

Now time for bed so I can actually get stuff done tomorrow. =)

Fairy Tail episode 122: Well, it finally happened. And once again, the anime made a bigger impact on me than the manga.

I'm on the final episode of Slayers Revolution. After that, it's time for the final season, Slayers Evolution-R!

Ozma ep 1 (I had free time) So far, so good? I'm not seeing anything stand-out or special so far. But it's a nice sci-fi thing. And I really want to cosplay that captain. She looks awesome! ^.^

NGE episode 21 (Director's cut) - Intense. Just intense. It's a lot of talk and very little action, but it's absolutely fascinating!

Also watched Ozma ep 1. :) I enjoyed it quite a bit! It isn't something I'd want to stick with long-term, but for only 6 episodes I think it will be a lot of fun.

I just finished the two OVAs for Rurouni Kenshin. The first was told in the manga, but was so much cooler as an anime. The second was a little boring in the first half, but so sad in the second! however, I like this ending somewhat better than the manga ending.

Finished Stein's Gate SO GOOD! Got everything I desired and more out of the ending :thumb:

Except for that, I've recently watched 1-10 or Inu x Boku and found it so... exceedingly odd, yet enjoyed it thoroughly ;) The heroine I like. She is funny and understandable... most the time. The guy... uh... is like... a frickin' STALKER :eyebrow: I don't know how she stands him, let alone LIKES him :shady: I woulda fired him from day one no matter how dramatic he got over it. But, I enjoy other characters of the series... especially the carpet man... totally woulda gone for him myself, 'cause he's HILARIOUS

Anyway, moving on. I also watched Bakemonogatari and am waiting anxiously for the prequel OVA. Overall the series was decent... amazing animation and interesting characters. My only complaint would be the fanservice :shady: which aggravated me severely. Beyond that, good story.

Presently, I'm watching Kaichou Maid-sama!. I read quite a bit of the manga once but dropped it off after a while (got a little bored) but I have to say, so far the Anime has definitely got a great deal of laughter from me :thumb:

I'm rewatching the first The Slayers series. I'm a bit sad to realize that it aged quite worse than I remembered both in production values and narrative style. The story itself keeps being a very competent and fun fantasy epic, but sadly, the once evident genre-lampooning that was its main comedic strength is now overshadowed by how bad it looks and how dated the narration tricks and gags are. For a new viewer it would be hard to laugh with it rather than to laugh at it.

I'm a new viewer, and while I found myself laughing at it, I also laughed with it. So hope is not entirely lost!

Watched episodes 5-6 of Spice and Wolf II. I love this series so, so much.

I'm really glad to hear that. Independently of Slayers' unavoidable dated-ness, it remains one of anime's great classics and the grandaddy of several of the tropes and themes used nowadays in the medium.

I got started with Another. I'm loving it so far! The animation director has made a great job of making fully-understandable but subtle non-verbal communication between the characters of the series that are "in the loop" and you can tell it's one of those stories that rewards paying close attention to everything that is said and done by providing extra characterization.

Library War

Production I.G. gave us this little gem via the notiminA block during the Spring 2007 anime season. After seeing it, I have to wonder why I haven't heard anybody really talk about it (apart from Mr. Cloggz). I found it to be utterly charming, compulsively watchable and truly addicting. It is a show that tries and succeeds at doing several different things very well. When it wants to be serious and dramatic, it can do so, but when it wants to be light and comedic and it also pull it off with aplomb. So, we get a simultaneously heartwarming yet intense whole that doesn't feel manic at all. I won't lie: there were a few moments that made these old eyes well up with feel-good!

The cast of characters is excellent. It's one of those groups that makes you end up rooting for each one of them, and there's not a dud in the bunch in terms of being interesting. The aforementioned Cloggz describes the cast as "admirable," and I think this is accurate. It's not just that they're cool characters, fully developed characters or even likable chaps. For me, Dilandau from Escaflowne fits these categories (love that guy!), but one thing he is not is admirable. You want your kids to be like, say, Kasahara when they grow up. In this same vein, the show is sincere. It wears its heart on its sleeve concerning a love for books, for reading and a passion for intellectual freedom. These are ideals that you can really get behind, and the cast's honesty about these things just increases my love for the show.

A real treat.

Macross 7 and all of its Ties-Ins

Oh man. This is a difficult show to write about. In order to convey everything I'd want to convey, I would have to write about both the history of Macross as well as my own personal history with Macross. I want to spare everyone that tedium. There's also the issue that, while I unashamedly adore the heck out of Macross 7, I can completely understand why people would and do hate it (not enough battles, overly cheesy, not SERIOUS). I'm not sure I could recommend this series without actually knowing the person I'd recommend it to.

But enough of teasing, vague prefaces. Macross 7 is, in a nutshell, about an emigrant space fleet who encounters energy vampires that can only be defeated by the power of rock music (thank you Master Dias for that description). There are some hooks for fans of older Macross series, such as the fact that Max and Miria Jenius play prominent roles in this series (their daughter is the main character). Yet, this show is VERY different than any Macorss show before or since.

Macross has always been about music, transforming robots and love triangles. Macross 7 has each of these elements, but it only carries out the minimum requirements for the love triangle and robots parts and really goes all in on the music element. And, really, this element of Macross, specifically the power of song and the way it changes people, has always felt like the core of the franchise with the other aspects being important but secondary to this.

The plot matters, but it doesn't. We have the band rising from obscurity to fame, the energy-vampires, their impact upon the Macross 7 and their subsequent fate. But, all of this plays second fiddle. Many people will be unsatisfied with the way the love triangle turns out, but while the series is about love, it's not about who ends up with whom. All of these things are interesting and make the show compelling, but that is not what the show is really wanting to communicate to you. Macross 7 is putting its beating heart out there, in the most cheesy yet sincere way, and saying "Listen to my song! Listen and be changed."

So, yes. It's different from any other Macross show in its delivery, but its message, I feel, is the very same.

Power to the dream.

Just for the heck of it I watched the Towa no Quon movie trilogy done by Studio BONES, I have this to say: These movies have very good visuals and a pretty fast pace and the soundtrack is pretty awesome [After all, it was done by Kenji Kawai.]. However, the story of this is a pretty basic action flick and the plot is super basic. But it was a solid watch. The ending to the 6th movie was pretty okay. Overall I would say that this trilogy of movies was above average.

It would have been a lot better if the characters were not so shallow.

Angel Beats 1-3. Man, this show is so unashamedly post-Haruhi that hurts. Anyway, the premise is much more interesting than I thought and the execution more adroit than I was expecting after reading some comments here. At the very least, I think that the unavoidable losing comparisons to Haibane Renmei are a bit unfair: Both deal with very similar settings but the treatment is totally different in each, even if the goal appears to be similar. In fact, I think I'd recommend this anime to anyone who liked Haibane but felt that it was too slow and demure (a complaint that I've heard a number of times.)
