I just started watching Magical Girl Pretty Sammy! Even though I really liked the Tenchi Muyo/Universe series I never bothered watching Pretty Sammy because I thought it was meant for little girls. I can already tell that is NOT the case. In the first 10 minutes, you get some panty shots, partial nudity, sexual references, violence, and cursing.

Finally finished Tatami Galaxy. :) Although I still can't recommend it in good conscious based on the lack of necessity for a lot of its "questionable content," it is a brilliant show. Artwork, music and script are fantastic.

It's indeed well-written. To be honest, I can't really call a anime bad unless there's a good amount of faults with it.

Finished Princess Tutu today. The ending was even better than I'd hoped. Thinking over it, I'd have to say that one of the things that impressed me most about this anime was the character development. I don't want to spoil it for anyone else who might watch it for the first time, so I'll just say that there was one character who I hated at the beginning --and who I was sure was a villain-- who I ended up loving at the end.

What I mean is . . .
Never in a million years would I have predicted that by the end of the anime, I'd be shipping Fakir x Duck! That was some brilliant writing, I think, to make me go from wanting Duck to somehow be with Mytho (despite the prophecy that said she could never admit her feelings for him without vanishing) to wanting to pair her off with Fakir. If you'd told me that at the beginning of the series, I would have laughed. I'm really impressed with how Fakir developed as a character.
There were, of course, lots of other really impressive things about the series. The artwork was stunning, the music was good, etc. The whole show was incredibly well done. But at the end of the day I think I am most impressed by how it makes you care about the characters.

That happened to me as well.
When I first started the series, I immediately thought "Duck will end up with Mytho, and Rue with Fakir. Boom, happy ending for everyone!"
Yeah, so much for that...Rue and Mytho do make a good couple, and Fakir x Duck is just so adorable. :3
I also had a really weird feeling about Fakir in the beginning. He was immediately my favorite character for some reason, and I got the feeling he wasn't truly bad. For once my predictions were right. ^o^
I heard in a few places that they were going to make a third season, but they ran out of funds and had to end it where it did. =(
At least it was a good ending spot.

Watching Sakamichi no Apollon and Eureka 7 Ao.
Both had great, very interesting first episodes. I'll post my thoughts on them in the spring anime thread.

Also went on a mini Detective Conan marathon and watched episodes 623 - 642.
It's been like seven months since I've watched DC so it was really nice to see the characters again.
(And of course, solve crimes. ;D)

Thou dost prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. In defense of my watching a random episode of Madoka, I had absolutely no idea what was going on, and even now the details are fading away because I don't know what they were talking about. I'm going to wait at least two years before I watch it properly, and I'm fairly confident that by that time, my memories of that episode will have faded sufficiently that I won't have the story spoiled. I've done it successfully before - I watched a random episode of FMA that happened to have a couple extremely enormous spoilers in it and a character death...but because I had no idea who anyone was or what was going on, I completely forgot about it by the time I watched the series through and got to that point again. Besides, there was absolutely nothing going for Madoka for me (the very idea of "mahou shoujo" makes me twitch), so I needed to see what the tone was like before I could hazard a guess at whether I would like it.

Anyway, I watched D.Gray-man episode 45 - randomly back to Kanda! (Heehee, I recognized Vic Mignogna's voice after two lines of dialogue :hits_self )

FMA: Brotherhood episodes 46-59 with my roommates - Kyaaaaa so close to the awesome ending!!!!!! ^_____________^

Watched episodes 1-2 of Honey and Clover. Good series, but the intro is so random.

I've been watching Nichijo for a while now, and I was recently sucked into Chihayafuru. When I watched the first episode, I only intended to watch that one. But then I ended up watching three in a row! XD

Anyways, I've been planing to go back to Natsume Yujincho now that it's getting new episodes again. (I had to stop because I had watched all there was too see.)

Cross Game - Episodes 1-3
Those were..good. Pretty deja vu-ish since I already read Volume 1 of the manga, but good nonetheless.
The colors are nice, and the characters look about the same as they do in the manga. The animation...can seem like it's never moving at times. It really seems like they just took the manga, colored it, and then animated the mouths and some of the more action-y scenes, and the rest was kind of left there.

I think the manga is better, however, since I can read the manga a lot faster than having to wait for the dialogue when watching it. The anime can seem kind of tedious.
I'll give it a few more episodes, though, at least until they get into the parts of it I haven't read yet.

EDIT: M'kay, I retract what I said about the anime being tedious. It's not, it was just rewatching what I'd already read that was tedious.
And the animation, while it still has a lot of still frames, is very nice when it does move. Bones' animation is always good.

Natsume Yujincho - Episodes 10-12
Same as before, watching this makes me feel happy. Episode 6 is still my favorite so far.

Gah, I keep meaning to post here and failing.

Last week I finished Chihayafuru. There are about a billion things I loved about it.

Probably most of all, I loved how pursuing dreams was dealt with--there were a bunch of parallels I found between Chihaya's goal of becoming Queen and mine of becoming a published author. Obviously you have to love what you do, but that's not enough: you need to work at it every day, recognize your flaws and strengths, improve, talk to others, and learn everything you can about what you love. You have to realize you still might not get up there for years--which can be discouraging if you're only interested in recognition... or perfectly alright if you're content doing what you love for its own sake.

I loved seeing friends bicker, help each other, and try not to let life tear them apart. I love that I didn't hate two thirds of the love triangle, and I love that said triangle was way, way in the background.

I loved watching the karuta matches. I loved that I could sympathize with nearly every member of the cast, and that the scary girl who's disintegrating your immediate hopes has a dream, too.

I loved everything, and predictably am crossing my fingers for a second season.

More recently, I got to see The Girl That Leapt Through Time. I liked it a lot, and as I watched I expected to love it even more than Summer Wars, but I was somewhat disappointed in the ending. It was still moving, but felt rather hastily thrown together and too many things went unexplained. Up until then, though, it was a marvelous story about friendship and non-infinite time. I'd watch it again in a heartbeat.

I'm actually pretty curious now about Hosada's other films, their respective strengths/weaknesses, and how he's advanced as a director and storyteller. So I guess I'll look into that whenever I get around to it.

Watched Detective Conan episodes 643 - 651.

I like the new character, Sera, she's funny and kind of cool. I just wonder whose side she's on exactly. (FBI, CIA, Black Org... or none of the above?)
Also, I really liked the last episode, 'The Detective Deduction Battle Between the East and the West'. Now that DCTP is translating Heiji's Kansai-ben properly, he's even more hilarious. xD
(I'm glad Shinichi 'beat' him though, since Shinichi/Conan is my favorite character. Heiji gets does get second billing though, imo.)

Oh, and I am now offically up to date with Detective Conan as far as subtitled releases go.

Summer Wars was a fine way to spend one's evening although it is not a masterpiece in any way

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time on the other hand I have to say is on the other hand, is probably one of the best movies ever made and I loved it. Did you people knew it is based on a 50 year old book and has already been made several times as a movie with real Japanese actors? I watched the 70's version but I must say the anime movie is much, much better.

I've started Puella Magi Madoka Magica this weekend. Its my first -real- magical girl anime, and I've been quite impressed with it- especially the tragic psychological factor in it. ^L^
