Watching the first episode of Tsuritama. Pretty good show, gave me some nice laughs.

Keep at it. First 3 eps is the slow, introductory phase. Character development follows soon. Also, desu.

Hmm, hard to say. S&W is ultimately a slice-of-life show with those elements you mention liberally sprinkled in, so the show is not going to get any "better" than what you watched in the first episodes. However, I'd dare to say it will grow on you as you fall in love with the characters and the stakes of their survival are raised. It is an exceptional story and you'd do better sticking along until you are positive of whether it is your thing or not.

Ghost Hound (all)- Rewatched to write a review for it. Still intense, if slow, and dat end... Info is also lost in the dub, much like for Evangelion.

To me, the show is all about the joys, pains, and, ultimately, the beauty of growing up. That time of life is rife with enthusiasm, self-discovery, heartache, change and vibrancy that makes our spirits rise but also tears them apart. Jazz is kind of a good way to symbolize this state of affairs.

So, yeah, Kids on the Slope seems like a coming of age story that doesn't so much want to prescribe a way of living as to describe or crystallize what that time in each of our lives is like.

Now that summer break has arrived, I kicked off my anime season by watching all of my favorite anime Mushi-shi today. :XD:
Today, I watched the first episode of Honey and Clover, and will continue it tomorrow. I've astounded myself by the fact that I haven't watched it before...

Finished Pullet Magic Meguca Maglite. That was pretty much the definition of "bittersweet ending" - I'm not sure how well I liked it yet, but I enjoyed watching it, if that makes any sense...

Anyway, yeah, it was a really good show, and even with all the hype about it, it still ended up being better than I was expecting! It gets a little less exciting and a little more predictable in the middle episodes, and the moeblob character style was a little off-putting to me at first (GRR GIVE ME MOAR MANLY MAN ANIMES), but the story wins out, and what a story it is! 9.5/10

So! Next on the list, sticking with the young-women-go-through-trauma theme, is Gunbuster! A super robot Japanimation blast from the past OVA (by Gainax!). Awww yeah. The first episode showed promise, for sure, driving the point home that our heroine's going to have to work hard if she wants to beat them space aliens. This oughta be fun!

Finished Bamboo Blade. I can see what the creator was trying to say but boy, did he fail in the telling. So much padding and filler in a series that didn't need it and most of it wasn't neither funny or heartwarming. The point he was trying to carry around could have easily been told in 12 episodes while tightening up the plot and getting rid of the mindnumbing chaff. Truth to be told, I'd actually would have liked it better if it were longer but taking a few pages from shounen: make every opponent important, every fight an event even those of the secondary characters, instead leaving them as background archetypes...

...While writing this I just realized that I could keep pointing the many shortcomings of this series for a long time and make a huge post, but I don't even care enough. I almost wish it was actually a bad series so I could rant passionately. But it's neither good or bad... it barely exists.

Watched Hyouka episode 5 (I'm so shipping Oreki x Eru now), Sakamichi no Apollon episode 6 (I don't like that beatles wanna-be guy. He's nothing but trouble if you ask me. D<), Eureka Seven Ao episode 6 (posted my thoughts in the thread for it) and finished Gundam Seed Destiny.
The plot was awful, they basically just reused everything from the first season. Lame. Anyway, it was nice to see Captain Ramius and Commander La Flaga reunited, just like I wanted. (Yay! he got his memories back! That made me happy.)

But, why did they mess everything up between Athrun and Cagalli? D: I think that by the end of the series they're still a couple, but it's hard to tell since Athrun is seen walking away with Meyrin... :mutter:
Ew, that better not be the end game pairing for Athrun. ><
They made Cagalli so much weaker in GSD, it's kind of sad. She only gets gutsy again around the last few episodes. I think that making Cagalli boring and giving Athrun new, mary sue type love interests was a big mistake. I hated it.

It was pretty cool that Dearka and Miri dated at one point like I thought they should, it would have been nice to see it though. >> Her reason for breaking up with him was also a little shallow I thought. No wait, actually, now I'm mad that I didn't get to see it since I know they make a really cute couple. :stressed:

I actually do like Kira and Lacus a lot more now, as both characters and a couple. However, some of the stuff with them was kind of boring.
Honestly, why didn't they kiss even once? Aren't they the main pairing? And I tried to like Shinn and Luna, but I hate Shinn a lot, lots and lots actually. So it's not really possible. Worst new main character, ever.
Based on what I've said above GSD deserves a 5/10, but since I loved the final ending and opening themes and the ending was pretty good, I give it a 6/10.
Final thought: Click this, please.

Add your negative review of Destiny to the pile. Clearly AngelicTotoro needs to see a different Gundam show =).

If you want to see what those crazy kids from White Base are up to, you should check out Zeta Gundam (on crunchyroll, no less). If you'd rather see a new cast, pick up G Gundam or After War: Gundam X.

Watched episode 8 of Another. It seemed like such a light hearted episode to. :(

I am seriously debating whether to focus on one series, finish that, then go on to the next or not.

@Nadia, I'll probably read the manga if possible then, since you seem to have a legitimate reason for liking Shinn, I have to see why.
I agree completely with everything you said about Mu, (including the stuff about him and captain Murrue.) seriously, I wish they kissed just once in GSD, I mean they kissed like three times in GS, so why not do it again? For old times sake. ;) Meh, anyhow, they better have kids. (I hope Andrew is ready to be an uncle, considering how Mu and Murrue live with him now. :brow:)

Glad to see someone else really likes Dearka x Miriallia. It's so sad I have to rely on fanart and fanfics now. :shake:

My favorite opening was the final one, ''Wings Of Words''. But I liked 'Pride' lots too, I just prefered how the other one flowed.

Oh, and according to my reserch on MAL, Athrun and Cagalli get back together, the creators themselves said so. I guess that means I shouldn't have much of a problem with the ending, but I still kind of do since it didn't look like they did get together again, it looked kind of the opposite actually. :shady: Maybe Athrun was hanging with Meyrin cause' she needs a friend?
Sencoroll: an obscure short film mostly made by one person--similar to Voices of a Distant Star, but by Atsuya Uki, not Makoto Shinkai. Basically it is about some teenagers who can control weird monsters and use them to battle each other, sort of like a much darker version of Pokémon. Weird but iintriguing, with a rather inconclusive ending (the creator is working on a sequel, apparently).

Haha, oh wow. One of the "gems" in Bamboo Blade was writing the name of a character that very obviously was the Japanese pronunciation Schneider as "Shinaider". Man, now I regret not checking the dubs to see how they actually pronounce "Shinaider" in English.

Hmm, I guess that's from where their confusion arises, but the guy's name is definitely Schneider. BB's soundtrack has a song called "Schneider no Uta." But you didn't even need to know that factoid: just watching some anime should make one aware of how Japanese pronounce foreign names.

I'm saying that it's almost 100% because it's a Japanese pun. Technically, his name isn't Shinaider or Schneider but シ]aren't romanized, the other being Blade Braver's theme, 「超剣戦隊 ブレードブレイバー」), so we've got no help from there. In this context, I think they went with the right choice, since romanizing it as Schneider would've obscured a fairly obvious pun in the original language that's supposed to sound kind of off anyway, so they decided to make it look weird too, I guess.

Anyway, the only reason I'm typing so many words is because I like the pun.

I'm saying that it's almost 100% because it's a Japanese pun. Technically, his name isn't Shinaider or Schneider but シナイダー, and it basically depends on how you romanize it. Romanizing it as Shinaider makes the pun explicit and makes some sense in the context of a tokusatsu show within a kendo anime (Blade Braver and Shinaider are both sword themed). And the song isn't called "Schneider no Uta", it's 「シナイダーの歌」 (which, funnily enough, is one of only two track titles that aren't romanized, the other being Blade Braver's theme, 「超剣戦隊 ブレードブレイバー」), so we've got no help from there.

Ah I see what you mean, though I wonder whether they truly went and considered all that to arrive to that decision, or it's just sloppy translation. I feel inclined to believe the latter as the rest of the subs were so-so.

Anyhow, may I ask you to break the parity between Monster and Samurai Champloo in the 2004 thread? :P
