Pokemon VoltWhite Joey Challenge

Postby Garland » Sat Sep 15, 2012 1:17 pm

I've decided to give the Joey challenge (AKA top-percentage rattata challenge) a go on a modded version of Pokemon White. Here are the rules:

1. Your name must be Joey
2. You have to have a Rattata throughout the WHOLE game. No other Pokemon can be used except HM mules
3. You are not aloud to evolve the Rattata
4. You can teach it any TMs you like
5. You cannot use cheats of any kind
6. You can do this challenge on any Pokemon game
7. You can only have your Rattata with you while doing the Elite Four

I'm adding this rule: Rattata is the only party member. If it faints, you lose, even if HM slaves are in the party.

I'm also just doing this with the first rattata I catch.

And now we begin!

Uh.. Hi.

Image Image ImageImage
ok...
Image
Image
I'm a boy, and my name is Joey.
Image
I just told you that!

*Skips to picking first pokemon*

Alright. Let's see what pokemon are in the box!

Not a rattata

Image

nope.

Image

not here either.

Well great. I'll just have to catch my rattata. I'll just grab Tepig and go.

Image

A battle? But I don't have the right pok--drat.
Image
(Many tackles later, Tepig falls due to the first attack being a critical hit. I missed that screenshot though.)

Image
You too Cheren? ugh.
(This time I win with tackle spam. I'll have more battle screenshots later, I'm just trying to skip to the rattata.)

Ok. Let's find a rattata.

Image
nope.

Image
nope.

Image
When will I see a rattata???

Image
nope. Not a single one.
Image
I found one!!! And It's level 6!!!
Image
I caught it!!
Image
Image
Ok... now what to name it? (It's going to stay a Rattata the whole game.)

Hmmm, I unfortunately cannot decide so I will list:

-Nate: Hey I have to pick a name that references my own Rattata that actually turned out to be moderately epic...even if it was as a Raticate. Also, because Nate will always be a Rattata in our hearts.
-Bob: A great name for anything and anyone
-Rattrap: Beast Wars reference
-Arnold: Because this rat is going to terminate things

Whoa 1 rattata to go through the whole game. It always seemed more fun to train pokemon with lower stats than uber powerful pokemon. At least to me.

Names
Garland II- Live through your pokemon
Haxorous- It's fun to trick other people like this.
Rogelio- I always liked that name.
Killer
shinygodkiller- It fun to see shiny legendaries get defeated by small underdog pokemon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-PArgnvqQ4 skip to 2:13 for epicness.

Well, the two posted I like the most are Nate and Arnold, though i'm leaning more towards Nate.

...

And... I'll go with Nate. I think he needs another run.

Also, one nice thing is that I don't have to win every battle the first time. (unlike Nuzlocke) Especially in a couple of these gyms... (Lenora is a monster) as every gym leader has 6 pokemon in this...

*EDIT*

*Next part*

Nate the Rattata.

Bad nature (low speed) and ability (Hustle lowers accuracy noticeably.)
Well: Let's see about some grinding. But first, healing!

Mirror match!

Image
This does not bode well for this challenge...

A Hoothoot? Piece of cake.

Image
Except it knows Hypnosis...

Image
Every pokemon is dangerous...

Even Pidgeys

Image
That's razor wind it's using. 80 base power for a level 5 pidgey in a low-level battle…

*Grinding to level 10*

ImageImageImage
Rattata learns flame wheel. Like a Quilava. Truly a top-percentage rattata.

Image
Let's box my "starter."
Image
Next time: This "N" guy.

I'm beginning to wonder if Nate truly is in the top percentage of Rattatas...

Nate is amazing: He just hasn't hit his stride. Keep in mind that his attacks are all boosted beyond normal power (150% of normal power) so he one-shots nearly everything he hits. I'll probably give him an item to boost his accuracy (which is lowered by 20% for attack moves) when I get one.

Image

An nincada, huh? Reminds me of myself…

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Somewhat useless when I have a bike, but ok.

Image

Image

Image

This looks bad…

Image

but flame wheel is amazing.

I really need to stop playing in 2x speed mode so I actually have a chance to get screenshots of the attack damages/fainted pokemon...

Also, I have a lot more done that I've posted. I just need to find some time to put them all up.

Alright. After a short hiatus due to starting college and all, I think I can start updating more often. Mainly I just need to write up the stuff I have and then I'll continue with the challenge.

Who's always going to battle me right after Bianca? Cheren of course.

Image

Image

Yeah. Most Pokemon get OHKO'd by Nate.

Cut: now a grass type move.
Great for taking out water types, which happens to be the first gym type.

After some grinding, Gym battle with the water-based gym leader:

Image

Yeah: the first gym has 6 pokemon, and it's a rotation battle and they have all five starters and an elemental monkey. Managed to snag hyper fang after the first pokemon fainted.

ImageImageImageImage
Everything is super effective.
Image

Image
...Do I even need to tell you "it's super effective!" again?

Image
You'd better believe it.

And this is why Nate is great.

Image

It's me! I'm battling myself! (Yes this character is actually in the hack with a rattata.)
ImageImageImage
But Nate is much stronger than my clone's rattata.

Any idea how rattata can use this?
Image
Image
So these twins won't let me pass unless I have 2 pokemon.
Image
So meet my punching bag meowth and my tepig will also join the fight. (I'm going to attempt to have them faint on the same turn so that rattata will go in undamaged.)
ImageImageImage

Well, there we go.

Alright. So, now that both my rattata and their nidoran are undamaged, I consider the spirit of the challenge to be upheld. The both know double-kick.
Image
The second went down as easily as the first.

Image
And my meowth and tepig are deposited so back to the challenge.

And Cheren wants to battle me again:
Image
ImageImageImageImage
Image
Because Nate is epic.

Image

Nate is doing really well.
