I'm noticing some slight changes in the way Hoshino-san is drawing Allen - possibly showing some aging, like in FMA?
, I also just read Gin no Saji, a.k.a. Silver Spoon, chapter 52. And yeah, it was getting kinda obvious that Hachiken was really overworking himself, so I suppose a collapse was pretty inevitable in the end; but while I have no doubt that he'll be okay, it was a bit concerning. [spoiler]Though earlier it was great to see him get up the courage to ask Aki to go somewhere with him, and insist that it just be the two of them (and LOL, the page with his mental reaction to her accepting was hilarious 
); plus it was also great to see Aki's roommates break her cluelessness right away and make her understand that Hachiken likes her as more than a friend, and meant it as a real date (rather than having said realization get dragged out like some manga do 
). And I very much agree with Vii in hoping that they still go on that date once he recovers. Plus, the insights about animals are spot-on, and both the cats and the main characters are utterly adorable.

Now, that in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing-- in fact, I didn't really mind that aspect in particular (...well, I mean, except in the case of the parents of at least three of the characters, of course-- they were really messed up, LOL 
). No, the main issues that I had with this series were that the story was paced far too fast and the characters were not fleshed out anywhere near enough to make anything believable. In fact, the characters almost always seemed both a bit distant and a bit flat-- plus you quite often had to be *told* their feelings, rather than actually seeing them develop. 
Had those issues been remedied, this series could likely have been quite a bit better than it was; as it stands, though, it was very mediocre.

Now, as the story is about to move into its two-part conclusion, I can think of only two likely endings for the main characters-- and while I'd be very happy with one of them (:jump:), I'd be pretty displeased with the other (:comp:), LOL. So I really, really hope this ends well...![/spoiler] )
Hope that visit didn't scar him too much. [/spoiler] Otomen vol. 13: Interestingly enough, I couldn't really get into the first 3 chapters of this volume for some reason; but the last chapter was back to the good old Otomen cuteness I enjoy, so that made up for it.

). Anyway, there was some interesting stuff here. I liked the fact that Arisa's amnesia was fake (because that's a nice little twist to an old trope), and I'm curious as to whether Kudo is actually dead or not. I'm also curious as to what the King's endgame is, and whether Arisa's "new" personality truly is/was her real one. I'm glad they took a bit more time to resolve that. And I think I mentioned this last time, but I love the new editor Kosugi, and I loved Kosugi's attitude change/personal growth throughout all this, too. Oh, and the stuff in the middle of the volume was quite good as well (especially when Hiramaru showed up ); and the copycat plot at the end was also great (+ its resolution was perfect!). As usual, I'm definitely looking forward to the next volume! Fast-paced, lots of action, some fairly striking visual themes at times, interesting characters/plot, and you're pretty much thrown right into it from the start (i.e., things are gradually explained throughout the story, rather than having a lot of explanation in the beginning... not that I think either way is better than the other, but I can see why that style would work well in the format of an anime). Plus, having read and enjoyed both Spiral: The Bonds Of Reasoning and The Record Of A Fallen Vampire, I know how Shirodaira-sensei writes, and he's great at reversals and twists (as well as setting up really intricate plans and/or mind/logic games by characters). So it's pretty much to be expected that there's a whole lot more to what's really going on, and what everyone's personalities and motives really are, than has been revealed so far--
SPOILER: Highlight text to read: even with the numerous reversals and twists that have already occurred! (I don't know why that line amused me so much, but it did, LOL.)
And its eventual explanations (yes, there's more than one!) made for some really great wrinkles in the plot. )
