Two And A Half Men News

Postby Furen » Tue Nov 27, 2012 8:47 pm

I didn't know if here was good, or general Entertainment, regardless

Recently, Angus T. Jones (Jake) of Two and a Half Men called the show "Filth"

Thoughts?

I listened to a talk radio station discussing this today. All they would talk about was how he's a hypocrite, and just bashed him a bunch, but from the details I got out of it I think he's doing the right thing. I don't actually watch the show, just hear this on the radio.
From what I heard, the story goes that he's recently converted to 7th Day Adventist, and its awakened him to the idea that the show he is on is full of sinful things and he doesn't want to do it anymore, but is still bound by contract for another year. So he did a big public announcement for the church, talking about how people shouldn't watch it, and the devil is smarter than us, and this is one of Satan's tools, but that it was the Lord's will that he had to stay so he's going to make the best of it. And such like that. The talk show hosts were criticizing the fact that he wasn't forcing the company to void the contract because he still wanted the money, even though he could just say its against his religion and make them let him go.

Filthiness or lack thereof isn't really my problem with the show. If this guy's change of opinion has a chance of stopping the show, I'm for it.

My problem with this is that we should realize actors have to make money and often have no say in what their roles can be. Look at Jim Cavaziel. He starred in The Passion and tried to play in uplifting, Christian-themed movies. But now, he's in Person of Interest, which is hardly a Christian-themed show. But he has to make money and unfortunately, now he has to put his religion on the side.
I do feel for the poor kid, but it's the nature of the business.

Pretty much this.

Yes and no. But yes, most of the time] Look at Jim Cavaziel. He starred in The Passion and tried to play in uplifting, Christian-themed movies. But now, he's in Person of Interest, which is hardly a Christian-themed show. But he has to make money and unfortunately, now he has to put his religion on the side.
I do feel for the poor kid, but it's the nature of the business.[/quote] But man, Person of Interest is an awesome show, though. It's hardly comparable to something like Two and a Half Men in regards to show quality. PoI isn't an opposite of a "Christian themed" show either....
Plus, Christian actors shouldn't be only limited to "Christian themed" media in order to still be Christian. Take Zachary Levi for example (lead man in the show Chuck), who played in several popular roles in TV and Movie (Flynn Ryder in Tangled) and was still able to keep his personal faith.

Back to the original topic, it just seems like the kid is getting tired of doing the show and doesn't view it as anything good to watch anymore (could have to do with his beliefs, yes). But he probably can't just quit since he's still under contract, so he's just speaking out against the show and telling people not to watch it.

That's very interesting, I hadn't heard anything about that. Could you send me a link with him saying something about it? Off topic, but he's going to be in Thor 2 and I'm pretty stoked.

Kudos to this actor for standing up for what he believes in. Is it career suicide? Perhaps, but he's still very young. And I would rather put God first than a career. ^^; If he's feeling convicted about being on this show well.... that's between him and God ya know?

It seems like he's trapped in this role for a few more months though... must really suck.

He's a brave young lad.

You would have to go all the way back to 2002 for it.

I can quote what he said, but I don't think the mag would still have the write up.

In a 2002 interview with Relevant Magazine, he said, "My job on my set, I believe, is to first just love people and gain that trust with people where they know that I really do love them and care about their well-being, so that when they are running into problems, they will hopefully, at some point, come to me and ask me, 'What is your peace all about? What is your comfort all about? Where do you get your love? Where do you get your talents?' And I can turn to them and say without blinking, 'Jesus Christ.'"

This show always sucked how is this news?

This is like the lead guy in Big Bang Theory going "Hey guys this show is literally the opposite of comedy" or the guy from Dexter going "Did anyone know this show was about a serial killer?"

I still don't understand how this show generates so much money. It's like some of the worth television I've ever seen. Heck it's even worse than Big Bang Theory.

Then there's this show. Everybody needs to watch this show.

I'd say it's probably worse content-wise but Two and a Half Men actually does have humor in it, as opposed to BBT which is a black hole of humor, so horribly unfunny that shows that come near it have their own humor sucked out of them as well.

Still arguing which is worse of the two is kind of like arguing whether the crap your dog did in the hallway or the living room smells worse. In the end they're both crap and smell horrible and determining which one is "worse" doesn't really accomplish much.

Honestly, I'm all the more supportive of him speaking his mind. Besides, a added side benefit may be if it gets trash like Two and a Half Men of the air sooner than previously expected.

Oh come on you mean you don't find jokes like "My new computer came with Windows 7" to be the pinnacle of comedy? There's just no pleasing some people I guess.

I mean...it's Windows 7! The humor must just be too deep for you.

Wait, we declared war on Zachary Levi? Since when? I don't recall reading about it in the Soros Socialist Times that came with my monthly welfare check. I guess with the War on Christmas in full swing it must have just slipped by. Darn my tiny liberal brain!

Honestly, I can somewhat agree with you here. You can't call it war on Zachery Levi when some hateful Twitter idiots post dumb things on his Twitter page. That happens to almost everyone famous whenver they say something controversial.

Hmm... never watched the show before - not going to watch it now. I think the idea that it's completely a waste of time in terms of my own life is satisfied by the mere fact that it's on TV. Nothing good comes on TV anymore.

It is from a while back, though (2003). I haven't heard any different since then, though. Yuki's links are a bit more current.

I'm not a fan of Adventure Time myself (Sorry Nate, feel free to torture me as you see fit, but I can't seem to understand it at all.)

People keep telling me to watch Arrested Development, I should get on that.

@Mech, what do you mean second part? Unless you're talking about it saying interview part 2, because I don't know where the first half is...

Update to the actual topic:
He publicly apologized to show he holds no anger or disrespect for his co-workers, but didn't denounce anything, he's still holding onto what he said, but trying to clarify that he's not trying to hurt them.
