You refused the Search button!? *pleads forgiveness from the all-powerful search button on the Doctor's behalf.* Perhaps it will not strike you down for your transgression. ;)

Okay. I started this manga, but in two twenty pages I knew I didn't want to read it. I'm sure some people can take a high school girl being bullied and blackmailed into sexual harrassment in the first 20'er so pages of a manga, but I'm not one of them.

But to give you amore complete opinion, I quote for you the advice Mave gave me concerning it. So-- kudos to Mave, cause she rocks. ;) Rock on, Mave. And draw manga----*cries something about wanting to read the next chapter of Home [Ack! Look what you've gone Capt n Crack!!!]*

Mave wrote:uh oh...Hot Gimmick

where shall I begin? Ok, I own 4 volumes to date and have flipped through Vol 5.

Storyline:
For some complicated reason *rolls her eyes* , Hatsumi, the main female protagonist and her family are at the complete mercy of the landlady where they live. Now, Hatsumi's bratty little sister did something very stupid and now, Hatsumi ends up being blackmailed by Ryoki, the bully son of the landlady, thus you have the slave concept.

To add to the complications, here comes Hatsumi's old crush, Azusa, who seems to be the 'handsome knight in shining armor' who saves her from Ryoki....or is he? He has some games of his own and Hatsumi is one of the players.

Personal Opinion?:
Read this only if you can tolerate lower standards of sexual morality in comparison to Christian standards and the typical lovesick confused teenager girl. The art is very good but the characters tend to do things that make me cringe. I also recall some cussing.

[spoiler= Major Stuff in later volumes that may be uncomfortable for some Christian readers]
NEGATIVE
1. Akane, the bratty little sister sleeps with many guys and thinks she's popular. She is the one who needed birth control pills. -_-]

Do expect some love triangles and scandals to enfold. I don't know how this ends but I was starting to get frustrated by the 4th volume. To be frank, I only buy this manga for the art and the nice brother, Shinogu. heh

There you are, the Mave-d truth of the matter.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Oh, Osaka, you speak too highly of me! I'm not worthy! :hits_self ;)

Actually, I did a slightly more detailed review on Hot Gimmick in Manga Necessity: A manga review website created by our very own Kireihana! XD We only have reviews of 4 manga titles but we're working on expanding it. I believe I speak on behalf of Kireihana when I say that we welcome Christian manga reviews from members here as well.

beautiful. I was afraid there'd be sexual content. Why do people have to use that?

Always with the sex. It's like the editors have quotas.

Speaking of quotas, I have some more people to infect with italics...

*italics chase Osaka* Get away, ye demons! Get away!

Yes, sex sells, and mangakas (and Hardee's *sigh*) know it. Money mongers. . .

Hardee's?! I know I haven't been there in awhile but I didn't expect them to turn into a burger-peddling den of sin!!! Perhaps I should italicize them as punishment.

Or we could do this to them: Hardee's. Oh, they suffer in the darness that is bold print!!

Check Twil's avatar.....I like the series personally.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.
