This is a short story that I wrote. It is a modern adaptation of a story in Arabian Knights. A friend of mine and I plan to make a short film of this.
There was once and old and wealthy father who had three children who never got along. One day the father called them all together and before they began to argue he informed them that he was writing his will. The father told them that he knew that they would argue about the will indefinitely no matter what he wrote in it. So the old father decided to give everything to one child and hopefully by doing so, stop the arguments before they started. The father instituted a contest: whoever brought to the father the world’s greatest gift would receive all of the father’s wealth.
The father’s children were three sons: an archeologist, a scientist, and a mechanic. These three sons went out into the world to find the world’s greatest gift. Naturally, each of them looked to their different fields of work to look. The archeologist scoured the sands of the deserts in search of the fountain of life. He found it and took some of the water to give to his father. The scientist went to his lab and knowing that the best presents are the ones you make yourself, made a PDA that had a satellite link so that you could see anywhere in the world whenever you wanted. He turned it on and decided to check out what his brother the mechanic was doing. The mechanic went to every car museum and show in the world. He traveled all over Europe and America searching for the world’s greatest car, as fast as lightening, but as beautiful as the perfect rose (to a guy that is). He found it (not saying which it is because some do not agree), put it in his trailer, and began his journey back to his father.

While arguing over which was best, the scientist said, “Let’s look in on father to see who it is he talks about when we are not there. That will tells us which of us he truly loves more!â€
