Want to 'buy' an idea for a web-manga?

Postby bigsleepj » Tue Jan 11, 2005 11:03 am

Good evening, everyone. :)

I've concocted a rather ridiculously story as a graphic novel / manga idea, but having almost no ability to draw (or at least in the style needed for such a story) I would like to know if anyone wants to develop the story and take it off my hands for no fee. It just that i have too much on my plate to continue developing it to do with it as you see fit.

Anyone interested?

My synopsis is pretty vague and I'll be willing to answer any questions. Also critique and suggestions would appreciated. Alright here goes...

*****

This story is science fiction and fantasy mixed into one. The Christian elements are still up for discussion on how they could be introduced. It’s also an epic.

The story stars a young of about 16 called Robert Kaslan (names can be changed) who live in the city of Tsunbria on the edge of the Red Desert, a wasteland than surrounds a large sunken desert land known as Chaosheart, a place of dark evil and cruelty. All of the countries that live around the Chaosheart are affected by the Chaos-energy that has the ability to change humans into monsters and such and it’s the job of cities like Tsunbria to keep the forces and agents of Chaos at bay.

Each city centred around the Red Desert basically a small city-state: it’s a city and a country on its own much like the cities of Medieval & Early Renaissance Europe (especially in Italy). In other words some cities has good rulers and some have bad rulers, but all of these cities answers to the Regent Merkulah, who rules the greater continent of Kairndiba in which the Red Desert and the Chaosheart is situated.

But back to Robert who is a troubled youth. When he was eight his father, Fitzgerald Kaslan, was banished to the Red Desert as a traitor in league with Chaos (they actually have a very vague idea of what is in the sunken Chaosheart but they’re scared to death of it) but his mother, who now had to look after him, said that its all a lie. But because of propaganda concocted by the City Fathers of Tsunbria he himself began to believe that his banished father is guilty. At age fourteen he is forced to join the army where he learns to use guns, swords and reaches the age or sergeant at 16. So he had a good future in the Tsunbria guard ahead of him.

Too bad the City Fathers needed another scapegoat for their devilish plans. Whenever things go really bad (like water-shortages and such) they blame it on Chaos-Agents sabotaging the water. They literally pull a name out of a hat to take the blame and then march him out into the Red Desert to fend for himself. This is a very public display and thus takes the people of Tsunbria’s minds off their situations and also to make them think that the City Fathers are actually doing something while they’re doing nothing.

Because Robert is something of a celebrity and because his father was a traitor he’s an ideal candidate. So Robert Kaslan is marked by Executioner Kalos with a black tattoo covering half of his face. He is marched down the main street to the front gate in public while being pelted with rotten tomatoes and such (there’s a food shortage but there is always something to throw people with). Ironically the person escorting him to the gate is his best friend Jason Eltsen who is also in the guard.

Before they marched Robert to the front gates of the city, while he was still in the prison cell, Jason hands Robert a gun and tells him that killers are waiting for him outside the city walls where he will be killed. Confused, but thankful Robert places the gun in one of his pockets and begins his walk.

At the city walls, Jason was about to uncuff his friend when the captain of the guards ordered him to remain cuffed so that the killers could deal easier with him. And so poor Robert, even with a gun, is in a precarious position.

About a mile from the city walls, where the Red Desert officially begins, two assassins named Jobar and Rupan wait for Robert to pass by so that they can kill him. But Robert expected something like that and doubled back on them. After a few acrobatics he catches Rupan’s neck between his legs (which weren’t cuffed) and tells Jobar to uncuff him. Jobar, which isn’t he brightest of fellows, does as he’s told. With his arms free Robert punches out for Jobar and faces Rupan, who is not the most competent at his job. Rupan, thinking that he’s about to get killed, began to beg for his life.

Robert, off course, isn’t planning to kill Rupan, but asks why he should spare his life, half as a joke. Rupan said “I know where your father is!â€

Well, if you want to you try it. Maybe you can grow into it, maybe you can't. As I said anyone is free to try and if you're interested

then maybe his father could be living with a group of other people who are also outcasts from other cities or something who wander around and do... stuff... or something like that... ^_^;;

Hmmm. Sounds like a good idea. They could live on small shrubs, animals and crops-type thingies that grow randomly in the area. But I always thought that the when Robert gets to his father (50 volumes later) that
his father, despite being bitter about his exile, does not want to take a bloody revenge on his enemies because of (possible) Christian values or some moral code. Just a thought.
and Jason comes back somewhere in the story

Off course.

and then at the end there could be some kind of confrontation between the group and the Regent Merkulah and/or the City Fathers of Tsunbria where everything gets resolved (not necessarily through fighting though)

And if you want to write the story then this would be eventually up to you. Are you up to the challenge? ;)

Oh dear. You and Anonymous would have to sort out who wants to develop it since both of you are interested. Maybe you can work together?
