Gravedigging vs. Creating

Postby Jasdero » Wed Jun 01, 2005 5:19 pm

Which would you prefer us to do? If we wish to discuss a topic that already has a thread but the last time someone posted in it was about 5+ months ago:
1. Post in the previously created thread (gravedig)
2. Make a new thread

I think its safe to make a new thread since it was last year that someone posted in it...IMHO =]

......o.o;;; Are you saying that someone made a thread regarding this very topic last year? *zooms to search the forums and cries in shame*

Maybe another question is: Which method uses less bandwidth?

Well, here's our rule on gravedigging:

It's perfectly acceptable to post on a topic if you have something worthwhile/valid to say. IE, you just got into a new series and you want to chat about it with other fans. However if you're just posting on say, a thread about some opinion and you're like "I agree *emoticon emoticon emoticon* " then that's gravedigging.

We'd rather have 1 major Naruto thread being reborn again and again, than 100 Naruto threads started each time someone gets into the series/band/game/whatever. Make sense?

Also...just food for thought. If you want to post on somthing...and you search and find a big thread...and everyone was bickering...weigh your options. Do you really need to post? Is it worth rekindling an old argument? Just somthing to think about.

This might be a dumb question, but have you considered locking threads after a certain amount of inactivity to avoid the problem?

Do you realize how long that would take? Our archives are pretty massive; it'd be a pain in the butt to lock every single inactive one. I already spend close to 2 hours checking CAA right now.

So, nice idea, but not viable in the least.

How would that solve anything? People would still either gravedig or post a new thread...if its locked, we would have loooots of new ones.
